@at8933 I assume you're talking about Santa Clara vs. Southern Pacific. I did a report on this case in college, actually. That case actually had an appropriate decision, which was about tax assessments, not corporate rights.

What's under dispute, was a judge's remark that it would be probable that a corporation would be given equal rights under the 14th amendment.

That's really all it was, but lawyers used it later on to say, "well, the court feels that corporations deserve equal rights!"

Dred Scott vs. Sanford - Obviously this was asinine and totally inappropriate. Many cases that involved civil rights were poorly handled, like Plessy vs. Ferguson.

The ones I feel that were really landmark cases in the advancement of civil rights were mostly within the last 100 years, such as Griswold vs. Connecticut, Miranda vs. Arizona, and Gideon vs. Wainwright.
