I keep my hands as clean as possible. Use baby wipes or water and paper towels. If they do get mixed a little just scrape that part off and smooth the clay with olive oil. The other option is to make foam latex puppets and paint them.
Your work has such a cohesive style. Everything looks as though is comes from the same charming world. I loved the leaping fish's rig. Such a fantastically creative result from a seemingly simple device.
Your animation is astonishingly professional and incredibly impressive.
Your family should be very proud of your talents. I like to imagine your son animating with you one day.
Hey oranfinnegan - I'm not trying to be a salesmen but we sell a DVD on the site made by Kathi Zung called Foam Latex Puppetmaking 101. She used to make the puppets for MTV's celebrity deathmatch and she tells exactly how they were done. It's a bit too complex to explain in a small YouTube comment box. You would probably like it.
Hey oranfinnegan, try melting the clay to the wire armature and letting it cool before you add clay over it. The wax melts and sticks to the wire, so it won't fall off of it. You can also try wrapping thin gage craft wire around the armature to help it stick also.
i really love the work your doing at the moment and hope to see more videos from you :) but can i just ask what are you at like 3:14? the bit with the blowtorch.
The lunchbox I have is sometimes sold on ebay, it's the older analog model - and you can probably get one for about 150 bucks now. The new lunchbox syncs are something like 2500 dollars - unless they lowered the price since last year.
Can I ask, what camera are you using? Do you have any recomendations for ones to use in stop motion animation? Also how do you get the frames to come up on your sepperate PC/TV screen towards the end
The frames are actually coming up on a video lunchbox when I animate, but when I transferred the frames off the camera onto my computer you see them there. They aren't up at the same time. I use Stop Motion Pro to compile the frames into AVI files for editing later.
amazing work,really technical too:)
do you use, removable heads too?or do you use different pieces for different expression?

Amazing work my friend. I bow to the master.
So does Barack Hussein Obama.
After all, he's much better at it.... oops, did I say that?.... :o!!!
MrDrawingguy 9 months ago
@MrDrawingguy If Obama makes stop motion films, that would be cool.

@animateclay
If he resigned from office it would be even cooler!... :D!
MrDrawingguy 9 months ago
@animateclay You need to convince him to turn to stop motion. It takes years to make these films sometimes. It will keep him busy.

(^ nice to see this much behind and what it takes beyond animation skills to pull a shot together.

Man the work is so clean :) thanks for a great behind-the-scenes peek!
to rblclaymations: He's brazing a ball on to a rod effectively making them one item :D
Keep up the good work!
tonychauzer 2 years ago
I think that's soft soldering not brazing but as long as the joint is clean it should be plenty strong enough.

damn, they don't sell in the EU, and new ones are too expensive. Can't find any anywhere else...
Are there any alternatives or should I do it oldschool?
Thanks
