To all of you concerned about this being plagiarism, it's not. I just went and listened to 007 takes the lektor for comparison and, although very similar, the rhythms of the two ARE different, slightly. That being said, drum beats (and even rhythms in general) don't hold copyrights at all. It's the melody that gets copyrighted in music. And on that note (no pun intended LOL) these two pieces are very different. No plagiarism :)
This is ridiculous. How has this composer not been penalized for his rampant plagiarism? Any idiot on YT can point out that this track was lifted from From Russia with love. Why doesn't GAINAX do anything about it? Why do they keep glorifying Shiro Sagisu's plagiarism by reorchestrating this piece time after time after time?!
@SuperSaiyanAl Go read the page on "The Jimmy Hart Version" at tvtropes.org. This kind of thing is not all that unusual. Plus, I believe Shiro Sagisu created something superior to John Barry's work with this piece.
I know what a "Jimmy Hart" version is, and this isn't one. This isn't a vaguely similar substitute for a piece, this is music directly lifted from another composer. It doesn't matter if you think it's better; it's plagiarism and it's wrong.
NOT the same. Barry or whoever owns the rights to 007 may try to claim it, but they would fail in court, which would be a good reason why it hasn't been done and why GAINAX and Shirou are free to use Decisive Battle with impunity. And that is as it should be.
It isn't the entirety of "Takes the Lektor" that's used here, only the underlying drum/brass/strings beat. Shiro Sagisu took it, exorcised the 007 theme and simply overlayed his own work over it. That still counts as plagiarism, you know.
Composers shouldn't just steal all willy-nilly from other composers. I understand a musical nod here and there; if that were the case with Decisive Battle, it wouldn't bother me.
The melody is nothing like "007 Takes the Lektor." :/ The beat is similar, but I think this is better piece, honestly.

OH MY GOD THIS REALLY DOES SOUND JUST LIKE "007 TAKES THE LEKTOR".
But with that said, I don't give two flying shits if it's plaigiarism with an original piece overlaid on top. It's good music.
