Also it should be noted that four people did NOT save money on car insurance by switching to Geico. A moment of silence for the gecko and the unforeseen circumstances that took him down...
I was busy studying biology when it said that this is sidewinding movement. This is the most epic snake movement in my opinion. But where he says they hibernate in winter...that's estivation :)
That is not an American Sidewinder Rattle snake Crotalus cerastes,it looks to be Bitis peringueyi, the Peringuey's Desert Adder found in the Nambian Desert(that leapord gecko was a dead give away btw),.It side winds in the same manner as the two species of sidewinder rattle snake, and along with some other African desert vipers such as the Horned Viper, Cerases cerastes. It is an evolutionary trait developed for these snake which dwell in very sandy and hot deserts
@thomasneilson it would never be chaseing you through the desert,or any where else, firstthe Peringuey's Desert Adder(which I belive this is),is only about 6-8"long-not very scary, unless its in your boot.Second, why would it expend precious energy,to chase a animal(human)far bigger than it is which it could never eat.If it runs at all,its to get AWAY from danger and to hide.Desert heat will kill you far faster than this little snake.
@dukeofdeath5 lol that makes me think if our teacher says "Does any1 know how to get away from a side winder?" *raises hand* "Yes (Im not putting my name lol)" Me:"uuuhhhhmmmmmm... stand in front of it?" XD lol
@B0sTonCeltics20534 also that rattle in the begining is because the sidewinder is a rattlesnake btw but i love how they can make a song about a snake so epic
Sidewinder is an a7x song... "can't you feel.. The poison risin' straight to the heart of the venemous bite!" "you can feel... My strength destroy you... Somethin something" cool song :)
Actually, the way it moves has nothing to do with the hot sand. It moves like that because it's not able to get a good enough grip on the sand to move in the more conventional snake manner.
You missed what was being said. The sidewinder moves as it does as a matter of efficiency and safety. It could move more slowly over the sand using normal serpentine movement. However, over "slick" substrate they move like this to maximize distance and minimize contact.
The only snakes to do this are on polar extremes, hot dry climates, and cold wet climates. Both of which are deadly for a cold blooded animal.
There are several nocturnal sandy desert snakes that move using serpentine locomotion.
Better Nate than lever.

This is the snake who considers coal walkers to be n00bs.

I say the snake is at the same temperature as the sand. It's about locomotion .. efficient movement across granular material.

charliecheddar23 3 years ago
The one in the video isn't, its another viper (maybe cerastes vipera, not sure). but there are rattlesnakes that move by sidewinding.
overtheunder1987 2 years ago
Definately not, considering that it doesn`t have a rattle at the end of its body.

That is quite a move for a snake to make, it does that to keep its stomach from getting burned from the hot sand.
