  • nice seein him in eastenders again... for 10 seconds with grey hair lol

  • great song maybe could have been recorded slightly better

  • This won an Ivor Novello Award!

  • @cornflakegirl86 Mr Novello clearly neads hearing aids.

  • Angers me that in the top right hand corner it says "Ultimate 100 really bad songs"

This is a classic.. May have it played at my next birthday party, my wedding, my divorce party and my funeral. Amazing tune.

  • Fucking Awesome, I enjoy a good strangle wank over this one.

  • sweet

  • favourite love song

  • this song always makes me cry...I cant help thinking of Niall when I hear it. It's just perfect and so is he (well, almost perfect, James IS perfect, being the winner and all)

  • This song has more cheese than edam.

  • this is my favourite song ever

  • I believe in all that Nick Berry says, oh Great One! Keep the chin up Niall...Nick is with you!

  • I agree completely @reggievardy And the thing I really admire in Niall is that he is so comfortable in playing the loser role and happy to prove the point that being a loser is not all bad...all the time at least anyway! (Although I don't know am I the best person to comment as I have won the tournament also...on a number of occasions).

  • That is true, @DeelySportScience, when you win, well, words can't describe it, certainly not Nick Berry's words anyway, so we are coming at it form a different perspective, as champions. Niall, you must remember, desperately wants to win this. Desperately. But he is a winner too nonetheless, just for taking part. Like Nick says, and I believe Nick.

  • Niall Collins winning (really losing!!) the Ballinteskin Par 3 Golf Cup 2011.

There's always 10 years time Niall...

  • @DeelySportScience This is a beautiful song and reminds me of watching Niall compete in the golf competition every year. and it brings it home that it really IS all about taking part and not the winning. (although I have won it myself of course)

  • this song is so beautiful and timeless it always makes me feel emotional i think its the way Nick sings it and i love his voice its soft i always cry to this song because it is so touching and a classic i love old songs like this i loved it when i first heard it in Eastenders in the 80's what a song it brings back so many happy memories i had a crush on Nick Berry he was so gorgeous and really dishy in the 80's and he is still sexy and a great actor & a lovely guy in real life

  • I love this song, as people have suggested, it reminds me of the good old days, I was about 10 and my older sister bought it as a record.Happy days

  • Every Loser might Win, but every music lover loses

  • @JimboJitsuSBG Nick Dangle Berry used to twang panties and frapp pishers up and down the country.

  • lofty was a failure and a total joke.this song is about his relationship with chelle fowler.lofty was a good character despite been a total loser, he bought some lighthearted humour to the show which is seriously lacking today.

  • Okay it has a nostalgic vibe but you can't take this song seriously!

  • This is the greatest song ever

  • 100 really bad songs

this one is not bad at all

  • This song takes me a long way back, I did and still do love this song...... This song seemed to find it's way into a part of my life and embedded itself there :)

  • This is definitely a product of its time - the last 20 years were all about being cynical and sarcastic, so you could never get away with this now. Actually, soaps need more male characters like Simon Wicks - contemplative, outgoing, not constantly skirt-chasing. A better role model on British children than, say, the Mitchell brothers.

  • @AdArmand It was rubbish though, come on

  • @MrGoneTroppo - i'd call it daring, actually. It has a kind of Edwardian England sensibility - this isn't really an individual with something to say, granted, but he represents a lost ideal - the kind of utopian sentiment they had before the First War changed everything and liberated people from themselves, their impossible dreams etc. I hope I'm making sense.

  • @AdArmand Indeed, indeed. Pre-lapsarian bliss. 1986 seems such a world away now. Those long uneven lines Standing as patiently As if they were stretched outside The Oval or Villa Park, The crowns of hats, the sun On moustached archaic faces Grinning as if it were all An August Bank Holiday lark Never such innocence, Never before or since, As changed itself to past Never such innocence again.
  • @AdArmand Also, you'd think they would have at least tuned the bloody piano!

  • Ian probably played this to death after Wicksy fucked his wife Cindy. Not!

  • wow even worse than i thought. dont blame Mr berry for singing it. NICK it when you can. but absolute rubbish just like most if not all soap songs.kids and bored souls with no life or outlook bought this. 130 likes must be the same person. good luck to the future sadsouls it can only get better. so at least one positive.

  • @legalsilk hi I'm from Brum but now in Ireland! Thx for sharing that, it was very sad but made me appreciate the song even more x

  • The first time heard this song was in the early 1990's.

In those days a radio show in Wolverhampton used to be on where people can request a song and why they made that request.

The person who wrote in said... father had a heart attack, whist waiting for the ambulance he passed away... this song quitely played on the radio.

  • Lets hear it forv Michelle and Lofty!!!!

  • Love this song.

  • haha such shite

  • @TheBarry6 Agreed, the 80s were a great decade for top tunes like this!

  • Soooo Punchable!!!

  • Love it just for the name haha

  • This is about Lofty and Michelle in Eastenders, even though Nick Berry sings it it was really his character Wicksy who sung it. It appeared in the show and was performed by Wicksy the Queen Vic barman several times. Lofty and Michelle nearly got hitched, but she jilted him at the alter. Lofty saw himself as a failure, and when he discovered Michelle had aborted their baby he said "thats the only thing I've ever achived in my life and you've destoryed it". This song is about their relationship.

  • @EnglishChannel1 then he sent her a card on the anniversary of the abortion of the baby "What She Killed"

  • @EnglishChannel1 Well Lofty was a loser. Not sure if he ever "won" though :/

  • Cheese-fest re-visited. . .

  • vomit

  • Bltant rip off of Barry Manilow's We Made It Through The Rain! Nice song though.. not straightforward

  • great song..great guy..great actor..

  • If they made a punch bag with Nick Berry's face on it it would sell well. I'd buy 10. Great voice though... for a sparrow!

  • didnt "Dirty Den" fall in that canal? Great song of that year....suprised no covers been done for it yet!..... Bieber must be short of material...LOL

  • This is one of my favourite songs about losing but actually winning.

  • I love this song....and I love Nick Berry

  • lovely song.xxxx

  • all it got to takes is to lisiten to the lyrics and folloow the story that says it all

im from Denmark so partain my "french"

  • This was number one on my birthday, 21st October 1986, so I search it up on YouTube, and "Ultimate 100 Really Bad Songs" is splattered on the screen, yeah nice one, cheers for that *_*

  • I really love this! x

  • the road was right/we must have read the signs wrong..

  • Well, 9 out of 10 people have voted that they like this song, seems to me like TMF are out of touch. As for me, well, I like anything that sounds 'nice' and this song does.

  • 'Ultimate 100 really bad songs'? I hope they mean 'bad' as in 'good'. :)

  • So i'm a winner afterall? *puts noose away*

  • so many memories as a 10 year old watching my dad in tears playing this over and over again when my mother left him..........I love you dad x

  • @sproutlegz My dad did the same, but with Don't Give Up by Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel. They eventually got back together, but the song is understandably banned in their house. Sometimes you just need a good old cry :)

  • PC Nick Rowan

  • bloody hell i bought this tripe !

  • i just love the 80's music....one of the most played decades on tv...at least in that era u could understand wat they was singing....lol....lol...i like the music of today as well but there will never been another 80's decade music again......

  • God, you stupid pricks. This is a great song... better than the crap of today. Let me guess, people criticising this song probably like Tupac, Lady Gaga, and all the other crap musicians of this modern era... you can't criticise this song when people here no shit about music. This is as good as it was when it came out.

  • @blueriderccx Erm, Tupac's been dead for 14 years.

  • fake link!!!!!

  • Is that the canal that Den Watts drowned in ?

  • LMAO the top right corner xD and this song was big in the UK according to wiki

  • I hate this song with a passion.

  • song might be shit, but the videos fukn awesome

  • I love this song, it remainds me on my early days. even its simple

  • i dont feel well now

i need to take my dosage of 7.5 mg of ZOPICLONE

    tata!

  • You can't judge a song out of it's era! In 20 years time we'll be saying the same thing about todays music. Who has never said 'I'll never be like my parents, I'll always be cool?'

  • i loved this song when i was a kid, the lovely nick berry x

  • that was a lovely song i have to admit

  • was the song that was used when my two freinds got murdered on crimewatch 21 years ago was too young too know but i looked for them and still miss them both

  • An all-time favourite of mine! LOVE it! x

  • This is the perfect song to sing to the losing party, cause it's so innocent it just wrecks your head that little bit more... Whatta man, btw... =S

  • Not EVERY loser wins, Nick! This is so embarrassingly 80's XD

  • apparently this was number 1 the day i was born.......

  • I keep expecting too see Clude Greengrass sculking around in the background all the way through this video!

  • I'm not a Nick Berry fan but it's a very good point you made Ptipto

  • This truly sickening!

  • i make loads of references to this song

  • never realised before but he has the biggest eyebrows i've ever seen

  • @jimma1890 God! I never noticed 'till you mentioned it. They're huge aren't they?

  • @jimma1890 God! I never noticed 'till you mentioned it. They're huge aren't they?

  • smart abit flat light it crumble stumble it.roll it light it. stoned it home.

  • 1:49 You old Git

  • Me too, how crap!

  • This is "ntighe09"s favourite song!!!ha!!! ;)

  • lol, is that from the facebook app? Cause thats what I did and it told me this song for my bday.

  • Yep! Stupid facebook, i think they're wrong!

  • Ha, thats funny. One of my friends got the famous "Rick Roll" song (Never going to give you up) as theirs.

  • @QPRLAD86

I hear you. I was born the same day -.-

  • Haha. I love that in the corner, 'ultimate 100 really bad songs'

  • I PLAYED THE KEYBOArds on this song cant believe all those years ago

  • Oh my god, I used to love Nick Berry! :-)

He was my first crush, I watched Eastenders from day one because of this man! And I was only 5 years old!!

I was so jealous of Sharon, and any other female he spoke to for that matter! lol x x

  • what was number 1 worst song?

  • I love it, is magnificent!

I knew this theme in 1987, days before I go away from my home for ever.

I never heard it again for many years until 2009...

    Thanks to upload it here!

  • ha ha memories of early enders . this was the song Wicksy sung for Michelle and Lofty . God he wasnt bad in his day i can see why Cindy went week at the knees for him and later David

  • great song song remember it from when i was young. its refreshing to hear somethig from a time when people weren't made to sound good by a database full of special fx.

  • love this song. reminds me of the love i had and lost. 20 years on i still love her as much now as i did then.

  • thats nice

  • haha! I was talking about this the other day..Nick Berry was my first crush and I was so jealous of Sharon in EastEnders!!! I was 9 years old xx

  • Wow. just found this by accident

This has just taken me back to my childhood, I remember singing this at school for a charity event.

shame about it being so cheesy now, but ack then it was number one forquite a few weeks.

  • not a bad song at all. very cheesy though.

  • If life was this simple, I'd be singing this song every day !!

  • my best friend is his son finley x

  • It is't that bad... :D

  • WTF was up with the thing in the late 80s of ex soap stars doing pop songs?! Especially when half of them can't sing?!

  • this song was loverly, and as it was part of eastenders and peeps went in shops to inquire about it, which actually means it was released becoz of popular DEMAND means that the public were responsible for its success so regardless of wat u think it was a hit and u know wat its actually a beautiful song aout regret so stop bitching man!

  • No this song is not that bad...I'm just gonna go throw up about something else

  • Very cheesy video, but bizarely enough, I fell in love with a girl on a blissful island off the coast of Mozambique in April 1987 with this song as the back-drop - sad i know, but it seemed real then. We hadn't seen the video!!

  • its not that bad!i find it oddly moving in places.the road was right/we must have read the signs wrong/and now its all gone..

  • I have always liked Nick Rowen from Adensfield and his wife Kate.

    Good song, thanks for posting

  • To Sandra from Anna xxxxxxxxx

  • my God this is just ,unequivocally.a load of bollox, and by the way..the quality of music, as in composition and structure, have nothing 2 do with when it was made.maybe you are referring to mastering teqniques which are at a very hi peak in the 80 s but this isn t even close 2 standards such as run dmc who launched dynamic monsters like "walk this way"in exactly the same period."theA•D•F"has spoken.

  • People can be very fickle. If this song had been written by Gary Barlow as part of Take That's comeback people would have been falling over themselves to exclaim what a wonderful song it is. As it is, Nick Berry hasn't been on telly for a while so we all rush to judge something from over 20 years ago as naff.

  • Never mind 20 years - This was naff when it was released.

  • Totally agree ptipto. I can't stand people being smug about summat from years ago. This song was massive and I don't remember anybody calling it. at the time.

  • @ptipto Oh come ON. Come now. Seriously. Look at the whimsical ducks in the opening shot.

  • Hahahahaha, I've been steadily subjecting Americans to this song!

I'm an expat from Hull now in SoCal!

  • Thought this was great and still do,great piano in it.

  • What year was this. it seems like yesterday

  • 1986

  • OMG!!!! I feel so old now!!!!! :((

  • I like the song , although I think the video could have been better. But the words are excellent , and in a way it is true , in the end every loser does win.

  • "the words are excellent??" why do you think this is in the Top 100 worst songs in history???

  • Have to respectfully disagree. This is a TERRIBLE song. I believe he disappeared up his own arse.

  • I wanted to know the same about where Nick is.

  • AdmiralBirdseye - Part2

    We nearly made it

We nearly found the perfect combination

The road was right, we must have read the signs wrong

    And now it's all gone

    But if we'd made it

Could we be sure that it was for the better

Who could say we would have stayed together

Nothing is certain, in a changing world ...

It encourages us to hope, to dream, to love, to not be afraid to try.

  • Poor Nick didn't get a good rating it shame I thought the song was brilliant, better than some. If it wasn't for the bad reviews he would be singing now. Nobody gave him a chance.

  • I love the record and it brings back many happy (and not-so-happy) memories.

But let's face it. This would never have reached number one without being played on Eastenders.

  • Every loser wins? Sounds like the liberal, willy-nilly bullshit kids are being fed in school today. There are winners and there are losers - two exclusive entities. So DEAL WITH IT!

  • Not so AdmiralBirdseye! I must disagree here. Listen carefully to the words, it's about life and direction and choices and fate, not about worldly success as such...

It's an oxymoron - because life really CAN be like that sometimes. I find it a very touching song... 5 stars, the guy sang well and the video is very good...

  • ...oops...

    I meant to type

...life, direction and choices and FAITH...
