I'm lotus owner, the lotus they tested has 220... most serious drives have around 300 with some pulling closer 400... Also, we lighten the car into the 1700 lbs... range... just a thought... 8)

1) The Nurburgring isn't a track. It's 13 miles long. It's a basically a big fucking road with no speed limit. Plus it has huge long straights where cars with big top end speed will do well.

2) The fastest american road legal car round there is a viper 7:12 which is still along way off the fastest European road legal car 6.48

I have an Exige and can tell you, it would run rungs around any track with a reasonable amount of corners - admittedly, on a long straight and the Vette would pull away easily but the Exige isn't recognised as the best handling car in the world (by many professional drivers and journos) for nothing ;-)

Its no slouch but it is kind of horses for courses - if I had a dream garage, the Vette would probably be in there :-)

Why be a hater? I'm just pointing out some good points about the Corvette. The Caterham is not a car. It's a track day toy. Like the KTM Crossbow, ariel atom, or Radical SR8, they are blazing fast because of their weight. I club race an Aprilia RSV1000 to get my track day toy fix. I have a Z51 Corevette for the street because it's in my price range, it's relatively fast and it's liveable for driving year round, nights, or rain. PS, I'm a fan of Le Mans racing... that's where the Vettes win!

Depends on where you are. I currently live in Sydney. Here a GTR costs roughly $150k and a Z06 will cost $180k with about 1000miles on it.

I understand why you wouldnt pay that money for a nissanm but I wouldnt pay it for a Chevrolet either.

For that price you could get a 2005 911 Turbo 'S' here.. which I would take any day of the week

The Lotus is the Winner! Why, well, these days, the Exige, the 1.8L car with 220bhp, needs competition, that has double or almost 3times the horses! The only way, for the big guys, to go against the lotus. On the track: you need to be a real pro, to get to the Exiges limit. In Germany, there was a competion of races car, made by a car magazin. The Exige S240, came in 6th. But then, the Lotus testdriver, got beind the wheel and the Exige came in 3th place, outraced, by two 600bhp tuned 911 !!!

i'd have the lotus because it's economical enough and easy to park so you can drive it every day.

Just remember how small the engine is too, 1.8litres, i'm sure they have lawnmowers in America with bigger engines! The lotus will also do 40 MPG if driven sensibly on a run, something to consider when our gas is between $10 and $14 a US gallon! I get 74 MPG in my car but it's no lotus! In fact it's a Fiat and Fiat own Ferrari! lol

You'd be surprised, it's a small light engine in a small light car, so taking it easy on the throttle should get good gas mileage. The official MPG figures for the Lotus suggest it can get 50 UK MPG, but thrashing it, you'd probably only get 15 to 25 MPG, like you said.

Wrong. My friend Rob owns an exige, and has even upgraded it's horsepower, and still gets 40mpg. Power isn't everything at all. The exige wasn't built to be a powerful car. It was built to go around corners better than anything else, and it does just that.
