People may say the students were dumb for even observing what was going on, but that is beside the point. The point is they were on their campus, many were on the sidewalks, in their residence halls (or on the balcony of them) or in other university buildings. There was nothing even G20 related happening at Pitt on the second day so why were the police there? We should have the right to stand on our own sidewalks, or assemble in public parks to do whatever the hell we want if its peaceful
