prefer the volbeat version??? the volbeat version has nothin to do with the flair you can feel in this 100% country song.... the volbeat version sucks.. no pain, no country, no feeling, just raping a good song
good drinking music. but i don't drink anymore, i use to and i regret doing it at this age (17). Johnny Cash will forever live! he's my favorite singer overall
i perfer Johnny's version of this song to anyone of them around. The studio quality on this really helps enhance the visions that are created when you listen to the story in this song. You know, i could really see a dark purple sky, and invisioned a cat sitting on a fence, with a sillouhette of johnny laying on a roof playing a guitar singing this song, with a giant gold moon gleeming just over-head, with a cratered face and a somber look about its face.. Nicest rendition, hands down.
Johnny Cash is nice, but this IS and FOREVER WILL BE a Hank Williams Sr song. There is just no other that can touch the origional.

Johnny's version is great, but I still prefer the Hank William's one, the feeling in Hank's voice is something unique.

This cover is very close to the original recording by Hank Williams. I love old songs, who sounds old in that way.
The version from AMERICAN IV is also very amazing.
