The only time I ever use IE is to download and install Firefox on a new machine... and even then it makes me feel dirty and even going to the mozilla page to download firefox is irritating... the stupid download window, the annoying IE popup windows, the horrible menu system, and the toolbars that IE may have pre-installed (Google, etc).

Sorry to bust your little bubble dude, but IE8 is pretty much on-par with all the latest gen browsers. I don't use it, but kudos where kudos is due - they've done well with this one.

You what? On every level it is poor. I am a web designer and developer and use all the broswers every day. IE 8 Fails and there is a massive amount of material out there proving why. Still poor web standards, Poor PNG Rendering, No where in Acid Test 3... I can go on and on with test after test proving IE8 is NOT on par. They have NOT done well with this. They would not put a acceptability mode in it and meta tag to render as IE7 If it was any good. Less secure as well - proven.

You seem to be under the misapprehension that the average user cares about standards on the web. They don't, and they haven't for years.

Sites work in IE8, IE8 is a very good browser to actually use, that's all they care about.

And to the point. Sites do NOT work in IE7,8 properly. IT costs extra money to make them work and look even half decent in IE and all new attempts to develop better technology (HTML5, Canvas) have problems because IE Does not support them but every other browser does.

Standards equate to the better performance and more. I do this for a living so know what it means. Tell someone about firefox and get them to use it and they dont look back. IT is just knowing as IE comes with the OS.

You're missing the point. 99% of all users don't give a flying stuff about standards, they know IE works well (and in many ways it works better BEAUSE it's integrated with windows).

When they see a broken site, they blame the site developer for it's problems, not IE. They just simply don't care about the underlying technology... and IE shines when you compare how it works for these users to firefox ect.
