Nice, I have a good pro welder with ticket to make my boiler thank goodness. 2 pressure releases a gauge and pipe thread filler. Do you have heat transfer ribs inside the boiler on bottom? Hard silver solder for jewellry is strong for low pressure. Great vid!!! I test my tigged fuel tanks to 2.5 times the psi req. to be safe.
Brazing and soldering are two completely different operations; brazing requires a much higher temp. Also the material being brazed/soldered will affect the size of torch needed.
A copper boiler this size takes a torch that puts out a lot of BTUs since the copper transfers heat really well.
Hi John. Useful boiler you have there and a good size too ,esp with feed water connection. I 'm building 'Vesuvuis' a steam bicycle engine from Errol Cramer's Steam Works in Vancouver. The boiler is always the most problem related part over here in the UK, as the build/tests and insurance are strict, although understandable. Burner runs on petrol/paraffin mix which is pressurised by a primus pump from an old stove I liked your reloading videos as I use .303 ex military WW1 rifles. Cheers. Steve
Hi John, very interesting video. I also enjoyed watching your reloading videos. Years ago while on active duty a couple guys built a working model of the ships propulsion boiler. Equiped with a steam drum (minus the internal seperators, etc), a mud drum with water tubing connecting both drums, 2 forced draft electric blowers, a bricked furnace and a sheet metal air casing. They used propane to fire the boiler. It was great until they ruptured a tube. Thanks again, great videos
Very Very cool! answered many of my questions on a thermocycle boiler! thanks again John!

Could you run a small boiler of this size on wood or coal with proper grates?

@ntrains -- Thanks for watching my videos. Yes, with some slight modification this boiler can use coal or wood.

Did you calculate the efficiency of this boiler?
fernandesilyt 1 year ago
so the boiler is best for a 0-4-0 right
MrTrainboy1 1 year ago
Correct, it would work for a small 1.5 scale 0-4-0 or mid size ¾ scale. Ive used it mostly on stationary steam. ---John---

Would it be possible to braze or silver solder with a large LPG gas torch?

The short answer is yes. The log answer is maybe.

Hope this helps
