Elvis is lookin' pretty lean here. If anyone hasn't heard the concerts the last week of December '76, they are missing out. Elvis was ON FIRE during those shows.
Concerning the book, sometime in August '76 Elvis found out about it. (Numb nuts Joe Esposito picked the absolute worst time to tell him.....right before a concert.)
Regardless of the mistakes & errors made concerning the whole bodyguard issue, that book from the start had REVENGE written all over it. (His dad Vernon made this situation a mess, not Elvis.) Unfortunately, between that & the CBS Special, Elvis finally crumbled. That book was something Elvis just wasn't able to handle. BASTARDS
Wow Elvis looked great mid 76 till the end of 76. Two things in my opinion that hurt Elvis. One he really needed some time off to get healthy. In 1970 he began touring almost non stop till he passed. Starting each season with a Vegas festival that always ran about a month or more and two sometimes three shows a night with only a few weeks off at a time plus recording for seven years! NO entertainer does that. Thats ALOT of unhealthy living.......
And two..I personally believe Elvis didn't realize just how much he was loved. When he found out about the book his former buddies wrote that was coming out. I believe he viewed that as a career ending event. Hurt beyond words. He started looking good again in 76 towards the end. I think he found out about the book and it devastated. I heard he and Red talked and made up. But the book still was released! I heard his winter 76 tour was fantastic. You can tell in 77 the spark wasn't there. Sad.
Generally, you make some great points. However, the reason for the weight loss as well as the energy & overall good mood of his were 2 fold. 1 being that at this time, his chronic & extremely painful twisted colon had managed to correct itself with treatment avoiding surgery. But, it didn't last long. This alone made him feel like a new man. But, it was also around this time he met Ginger Alden. Bottom line he was, for a short while, relatively happy again.
Great vid imagine what we would have on vid if he had lived into the tech age .... he looked great towards end of 76' just wish he had kept it going and got out of the rut we could have had a 2nd comeback like 68'
This was less than a year before Elvis died and he looks great. Some of his meds caused water retention and puffiness in the face but he was never "fat". Elvis will always be the King!
This show was just three days after I saw Elvis! This is excellent, and people should note how good he looks. He NEVER got as heavy as some people seem to think.
@bloodredvinyl Well...he was certainly heavier in '75 than he was here, for sure. Also, he gained back quite a bit of the weight he'd lost by mid-'77 -- but I still say not as much as he weighed in '75.
I love this footage!! It is so unbelievable to me it was only 3 years after his "Aloha From Hawaii" concert and less than a year before his death.... I was born too late, so I couldn't see him in person!! What an experience it could be!!! Thanks very much for sharing this.

Great footage of Elvis, shame there is no sound from the concert. The music that goes with this video is a horrible noise.

@Phoenix7878 Not always, the behavior of Joe Esposito, was friendly toward Elvis...

No, you're right. Joe had Elvis' best interests in mind for sure. But sometimes, he just acted without thinking first. That's all.

I agree,,,Joe really had Elvis' best interests in mind. He did what he could.
