If Nabucco is such a failure then why does Russia keep throwing a hissy fit whenever a single country signs up to it, and besides your building two other pipelines so why tie yourself in knots over a measly gas pipe.
If the question is Energy Security then for Europe two sources is better than just one, so it is in the interest of Europe both projects (Nabucco and South Stream) to be implemented.
Central Asian countries have commitments to China and very soon India shall step in. Almost half of the whole world population is on the eastern side of the Central Asian countries. The West will have to compete with huge China and huge India for Central Asian energy resources.
As regards Russia I do not think that Russian ultimate goal is to SELL its own gas for paper money (either dollar or euro). After all the point is not to sell but to CONSUME. What Russia needs from the West, namely few technologies, the West is not willing to sell therefore I doubt that Russia shall continue gas/oil-for-paper trade with the West in the long run. Russia does not need western papers or western meat or western ships or airplanes or trains or cars... since it can produce it itself.
