th script could have been slightly better, also the acting was average, but overall with the rather good score, combined with the pretty amazing vfx; this was very enjoyable to watch. 7/10
As an amateur scriptwriter I was taught to avoid the cliched 'let the audience know what you're thinking' line at 10:09. But no, Cameron had to say 'he cut them' (the wires). Cameron's face fulfilled the 'show don't tell' the audience what you're thinking adequately. The line wasn't needed because the issue of trust is explained by Shepherd in response to Rachael telling him Cameron left her to die in the very next scene.
That's my minor gripe with this excellent production.
why the Fuck doesnt this have a Million views? great job guys and the BTS was awesome...currently working on a SYFY channel project and set costs and casting is alot of the production costs, considering all my sleepless nights at the pc on VFX (for free) so i know the work that must've went into this and it turned out amazing! keep the short films coming.
@xjroc79x It took about 4 days to film. I don't have the budgetary information, sorry - though a lot of the budget went on boring things like insurance and accommodation for the cast & crew. :) The film itself was done to quite a tight budget.
This was great i thought the vfx shoots of the person walking in the red suit trough the storm to be particularly stunning, good work to everyone who helped make this :)
@20thRule There was a combination of programs and techniques used. Interview about the vfx on the main fracture website - fracturemovie.co.uk. Go to media and then interviews.
Overall setting is very much like Alien/Aliens. The similarity is especially apparent when introducing the inside of the station, combined with the (nearly identical) music. There are a number of sound effects that are very familiar as well.
Very cool as an experimental project. Less cool if the creators are trying to pass this as original material.
PS - to those who FEW who did not like this - Im shocked! I dont know what they expected, because this was not even remotely a shabby production. Each to his or her own though.
I LOVE THE HELL OUT OF THIS! My only dissapointment is it could have made an awesome mini-series. Im thinking you could have squeezed a four parter out of this. The acting was right on the mark, no one failed to play their part less than 100%! The effects are acceptible if not as great as one can expect from a great storyline. The dialog Perfecto!!! STANDING OVATION!!!!
@DJBullCrap totally totally TOTALLY agree. It completely breaks the clean, classic poignancy of the composition, ending, scene, and music. Totally unfitting- feels like 'this is a font from dafont.com!' to me. (Though I believe I've said this before.
Still, otherwise pretty ace quality stuff. Good job guys. Especially loving the 'this is a film FXhome helped with' bit. Heh. 'The FXhome Film Project' became something you 'helped with'. Love how production changes relationships, on every film!
@Smoogle The cyberpunk, Deus Ex-style video is completely separate. Fracture is a production that actually began a while back, supported by FXhome and the FXhome community. Through its post-production its been shepherded (ho ho) by director Ashley Wing, though we did get directly involved with some of the VFX shots which were composited in HitFilm.
The cyberpunk short film which we're working on right now is a new thing and is being created entirely in-house and is 100% HitFilm. :)
Very amazing work, the sets are fantastic, the establishing shot and effects are terrific and the acting is top notch. Well done to all involved in the making of this masterpiece. Inspired.
Glad it is finally online and for all to see. :-) Was great composing the score for this in 2008! And doing a few touchups a few months ago. Now it's finally done and I'm proud of it and of the director Ashley Wing. He did a fantastic job.
ARE.YOU.KIDDING ME?!!? This is BLOCKBUSTER-worthy!!!! Amazing amazing job oj everythingg!!! It has truly inspired me as a future VFX artist too =) Can't wait for making of videos now haha... =D

JonFreyr90 6 months ago
So it can be done; dazzling effects and a great story!
This made me yearn for those classic BBC science fiction shows like "Moonbase 3" that seem to be impossible to produce now.
"Fracture" is certainly enough to give some hope.
Beautifully crafted.
