I remember watching this interview the day Joe died. There is nothing about that day that I forget, I heard the news on the radio during my lunch hour at work and it felt like I had lost my best friend. I never met Joe & yet he gave me more advice & guidance then most people I know. His words & music got me though some of the worst times & was there for the best of times. 9 years later and I'm still doing the same thing on dec 22, watching & listening to the clash
That last quote, I heard while I was watching The Future Is Unwritten documentary. I hardly knew about the Clash, but I was interested in them. Without the last quote in this interview, I probably wouldn't be alive today. It saved my life!
Rest in peace, Joe. Hopefully all of us can meet you up in Heaven and hang out around the biggest campfire there ever was.
I am loving Joe Strummer (only now getting to know who he is)... so glad to see an evolved version of him too, although I loved a lot (not all) of his younger side too.
@frediablo hi,that would be great if you could put my story into your book..thanks & good luck with it..
ps there is a little bit more to add if you want. my mate bumped into him at a gig & my mate didnt know what to say so he said about me meeting joe, then joe said "yeh dean man,i must give him a bell" he obviously never called but im surprised he remebered my name lol
I don't think this man ever realized that his words could heal the most wounded hearts there is. It's amazing and inspirational. I mean, I'm just a 14 year old kid so I didn't really get to grow up around all the Clash craze and even the Mescaleros 'cause I was young and stupid. But his words still make an impact on me, which I think is amazing.
i herd he live in the same village as me,so went knocking on doors then eventually found his.his mrs answered,i said is joe in,she said ill just get him,he came to the door said "come in man"so i had cup of tea with him then he gave me a book of his shelf & sighned it for me...
then bumped into him in town 3 months later,he remebered me & my name said "dean man will give you a call"i thought how the fck is he going to do that hes not even got my number lol...top fcking bloke
@ElephantsinMud never seen it on mytube but it spans. Must be from the years he was trying to plug the MESCALEROS, say 1999...maybe...definitely before the JEWS bombed the two towers.
Joe Sturmmer is my biggest inspiration... 3 am thoughts... dont forget youre alive. Truly an amazing person. RIP Joe, thank you for your music and your inspiration.
your realism and defined morals for life are your legacy.I still wipe the tears from me given the last comments from you in this piece.
You left us so suddenly..I was 35 and I cried like a baby in the shower when i got the news. Your comments at the end of this thing make it shocking years down the line.
Joseph Son of Scotland/Clashmore/Bettyhill/Assynt/Arisaig/A damn good campfire...we love and miss and respect your memory.
I'm just so happy that I saw him perform and even met him after the show just 2 months before he passed. He was the coolest guy, earthy, thoughtful, and outgoing-- he seemed more interested in me than I ever could imagine. He was everything great that one could imagine. Peace and R.I.P. Joe.
No, you're wrong! Joe was such a positive, happy and true person that you can't be sad when you're watching him. He gave people a message through all his songs: look at your life, think what you're doing, do what you consider to be right, be proud of yourself.
He lived his life intensively and you have to live your own lives...
Joe's right. We ARE ALIVE and we forget that everday! That's what is sad in the world. We all must remeber this fact: We're alive, enjoy it while we can.

Watching this brought tears to my eyes. He's so greatly missed and I always wonder what he'd be up to now-a-days...
