did you know about the Fresnel lense?

I bought a cheap one for a few euros on ebay. It is from plastic. It really concentrates on one spot and in a few seconds one can put fire to an object. There are some examples on youtube as well (for example distillation of water). You can have big Fresnel lenses (like in a light tower). If you maybe combine the light from the Fresnel lense with solar cells, or only let through one wavelength...
