No, it isn't. Even ignoring the, quite frankly, terrible side impact protection, the ancient live axle setup means you're more likely to crash in the first place than any other car. Especially with the power on tap.

I've driven one, as well as an old vw bug, a lada riva, and I daily drive a 1964/3 Ford zodiac.

American cars simply cannot handle and live axles make handling worse. In the sensible countries in the world, front wheel drive is far superior to some ancient set up on ox cart springs. Ford only use that set up because its cheap to make. The Mustang is 1960s technology trying to cut it in the new millenium. When they are seen in the UK, people immediately thing what a dick! They could easily buy a Ford Focus RS, which has a better power to weight ratio and superior handling, and is faster!

The only area an Volvo T5 will outperform a mustang GT is in handling(it outhandles a corvette Z06), and MAYBE braking. The turbo Volvos are fast, but not 0-60 5 sec fast.

My old Escort ZX2 I'm sure was rated among some of the worst cars as far as safety ratings, yet when I plowed into the side of a crown vic at 38mph, I didn't get a scratch, and it didn't even break any glass, my doors still operated perfectly and everything, the only indications of damage was all in front of the front axle. Consider that is a mere 2mph slower than these tests, and I wasn't even endangered. So I'm inclined to think acceptable is quite safe.
