  • i ran solid mounts in my chevelle once. took it to the strip and motor cam up and bent the hood, just a suggestion, but you should chain the motor down with solid mounts, and you are running a stronger motor than I had.

  • @3Moose666 maybe not. but all the ones ive raced. turbos arent super consistent but id say im right at 380bhp.. my car runs high 12's. muscle cars keep up on the strip b/c of the RWD launch but on the street i take them down. don't get me wrong though, i have a 66 mustang coupe sitting in my garage that used to be faster than my prelude.. unfortunately it only gets like 6mpg. lol. cant beat that V8 rumble though.

  • @aj66289 Technically speaking, a FWD car will launch better than a RWD car since the FWD car has more weight (traction) on the front wheels. Technically speaking of course, every car is different. A RWD car does not beat a FWD car only becuz of the "RWD launch".

  • @320bit actually rwd typically launches better. It doesn't matter how much weight is over the front at a standstill. if you watch footage of lanches, especially on a sticky drag strip, you will see the front end lift up. this is even true for fwd. what happens is the weight is transferred to the rear wheels because of the torque in the opposite direction of the launch.

  • How is that even a comparison? Civics will never have large cube engines like this, nor the torque curve. It would only compare in boosted apps, and still it has turbo lag. It really depends on how they are going to compete. Top speed? Drag? Closed course? Bottom line is power to weight ratio, Some vehicles just handle the power better.

  • Hahaha. Turbo is the replacement for displacement. I built a 600hp Turbo 240sx and ive had a couple LT1 Trans Ams. Turbo is where its at on any engine. Cubic inches just helps the big turbos spool quicker ;-)

  • 383s are hell of good engines, and this is comin from a ford guy who drives a mustang with a 347 stroker. my dad has a 1986 chevy silverado c30 with a 383 and a holley 750cfm carb and hooker headers and straight pipes and shes puttin down about 420 at the rear wheels! (my mustang puts down 450 but thats beside the point) and thats on a dual rear wheel also

  • depends on what you consider "better"...stock, the 98-02 cars are faster because they have the ls1 but they're more expensive. if you're going to get an ls1 car, i'd get a '00-'02 model. lt1 is more bang for your buck because the aftermarket parts and the initial cost of the vehicle will be lower. as far as cosmetics goes, you decide. the formula is the lightest, followed by the camaro, with the heaviest car being the T/A.

  • Most stock LT1's I've heard seem to miss alot, yet most of the guys that are modified don't. Is this because you go away from the opt-spark, or is it that most stock LT1's have never had it been replaced and are in need? I ask this because mine misses alot.

    At first I thought you were being serious, then realised you must be joking, nobody can be that stupid. The answer is even in the description for those who know nothing about cars, to get open headers, remove everything behind them. Hence why this was "before driving to the exhaust shop" (HINT he was driving there to get an exhaust put on)

  • @camfitz007 Well you take off the exhaust pipes attached to the headers, But open headers in the long run is a bad idea for it can really mess up your engine due to the mass amount of heat that the engine produces being thrown in the engine bay, where the air intake is exc. instead of being exited out the back to keep the engine bay cooler.

  • Good call! yes they are solid motor mounts. the vibration was not horrible. However you could definately tell they were there. inside the car it was vibrating a lot of the plastic trim pieces, not really annoying to me. i did a lot of research before i went this route, and did not care too much about comfort and a quiet ride.

  • yeah thats a coupe, more rigid than a t-top car. less rattles, shakes, and especially leaks.

  • My '95 Z28 has T-tops and doesnt leak, i dont know about rigid, but you could convert your car to a t-tops without cutting anything structural ('cept cloth and sheet metal)

  • yeah, you can but that defeats the purpose. the more torque a car generates the more it twists the frame or on a camaro which is a unibody it flexes the entire car. the coupe is more rigid due to the actual sheet of body material, in place of t-tops. t-top cars can exhibit signs of stress over time, expecially when you have about 600#'s of torque on tap

  • Still have the car? I also had a 383 in my 94 Z28, but sold it after my dui. I would recomend anyone who owns a Z28 to stroke that bad boy lt1!

  • thats the CC306 Cam from Comp Cams, its like .560/577 lift 232/240 lobe. Hooker long tubes into 3" custom exhaust x-pipe behind the tranny. and dynomax bullets then dumps outward at 45 degrees before the rear axle

  • headers free up the exhaust flow for more hp. they also help with the sound a little but mainly for performance.

  • well lets see...I have a 1972 c10 short wheel base with a 383 stroker w/turbo running 7psi of boost and the whole setup only cost me $8800. 5500-6000 rpm beast with a 7200 rmp redline. also I have a 69 camaro 302 DZ motor that is going in my 69 c10 swb 3spd. I will have a video posted as soon as im done with it.

  • hah thats the bad part $1500 for crank/rotating assembly, $2000 in machine shop work on the block, heads $1500, exhaust $1400 all in all i spent over $14K, but you should have seen the look on the vipers/ferrari/vette owners faces when I FLEW by them. Notice i kept the car completely stock looking, except the exhaust note, at the muffler shop i had an x pipe and dynomax bullets welded up with dumps before the rear axle. Car dynoed 430 at the wheels on motor, and 547 on a 150 shot.
