@niknickiboy23 i heard you get slighty better gas mileage and about 8hp and 6or7 ft/lbs of tq so its well worth it and probably the best upgrade you can get for the money next to cobb tuning engine management and a esmeril turbo kit im getting mines soon too.
I love the sound of the SP2 on the RX8, it has a powerful sound but isnt super loud and annoying. When i finally buy one of these i can only hope to do the same thing and a bit more
@xXGummyBearMafiaXx i just got a rx 8 i have a 2008 and im 6''1 u got 3 more inchs but its fine when u get use to it but it anit the most comfyest ride ether but its a fun and nice lookin car
@parrish001 cant sound like a civic, considering completely different motors, and this isnt riced out. camera phones never capture any low frequency notes, so all you are hearing is high pitched annoyance. if you hear this exhaust in person, its alot more throatier, even though its kinda loud. i have the mazdaspeed exhaust on mine, sounds so beast
The only aftermarket exhaust system I've heard for tuners that actually sounds throaty is the Borla exhaust for the Subaru's. That's it.
Everything else sounds like a wide variety of noises I can make for free with my asshole and cheeks; no matter how 'throaty' it may seem. Lower pitched farts or higher ones, it's all farts, a beast with the shits.
@sneakalologist the long one wich is the cai and the short ones are short rams, cai get colder air wich is better then the hot are the short rams take in, but all in all get the one you like and the one that sounds best to you b/c really they all dont do much but the cai are going to better for the vehicle and have more gains then short ram
@sneakalologist no prob i was going to get the aem cai but im going to use that money for a turbo, goin witht the greddy turbo b/c it comes with everything down to the intercooler and engine manigment and im going to custom it so the intake to the turbo goes down to where a cai filter would sit, haha that was a long your welcome
@mountainboundwbd no doubt i had a aem cai in my last car but now i have a rx8 .im just trying to figure out what would be best for this type of car sense its engine is not like any other car but thanks though and good luck .
works fine in the rain. don't take it to an automatic car wash or drive in a foot of water, that can cause hydrolock. intake is awesome overall though.
my friend has the same exact performance setup, and its so ridiculously LOUD, but not in a bad way. i think its too extreme for me especially where i live (my neighbors a cop). so for me with some sound and performance, i think ill play it safer with a mazdaspeed dual muffler exhaust. while im at it ill add more mazdaspeed: CAI, F/R strut bars and sway bars.
@saviolapibito Sorry if this is late, generally if you are in area where there is a lot of water you want to buy a special sleeve that fits over the filter. However, I've been told this isn't necessary unless the filter will be entirely submerged in water. Its a safety precaution, it's up to you. If you do get a lot ofwater in there, you're kinda fucked...
Slow it down! Give me a break. Intake and exhaust allows the engine to breath better and produce more power. Why dont you go ahead and keep driving you Buick Roadstar or whatever shit pile you drive and let us autophiles exist in a world without you. Thank you for shutting up!
High flow cat? Aftermarket header? Header design and "cat" flow is not an issue on performance. Noise regulations from the gov't makes car manufacturers keep exhaust noise down with resonators and large capacity mufflers causing back pressure and slight decrease in mid to top end power.
I'm sorry but cat DOES restrict engines power. BMW had to introduce cats for the UK cars for the emissions regulations. without cat it produces alot more power. the m50, s38 etc engines. that i know of
well i have the mazdaspeed intake that is exactly like this one and it does help with putting actuall cold air into the engine the stock intake i had durring the summer made the car run like crap! so dont dog too much unless you read and try it for yourself besides rotory is unlike a normal piston driven engine!
you cant tell the loudness and feel from the video~ you have to be in real life to hear how loud it is and feel the vibration of it when you are in another car at the traffic light~ :D
Anyone saying mazdas sound like shit are stupid and probably drive a pussy civc... No YouTube video is going to do its justice of the exhaust. If you heard the rx8 with the sp2 on the road your opinion would definitely be different. Weedeater is definitely not the word that comes to mind when you hear this thing. They sound incredible
what are you talking about? neither does this car having an aftermarket intake. ANYWAY, i never said it did. I removed the cover and the filter and revved it....it sounded like that but quieter, simply because the engine is smaller.
ANYWAY...somebody missed my point. this thing sounds like my weedeater when it had no air filter on it. that was my point. If you remove the air filter from a car and rev it with the air box open & no filter, its GOING to sound different lol.
your weed eater will sound exactly the same if you take the filter out, the air box doesnt do much to sound cars like this have a resonator on the intake much like an exhaust thats what made this different
actually it didn't. i could hear it take in air when i revved it which i didn't with the filter and cover in place. anyway, clearly you are an idiot and are missing my point completely and argueing something that i'm not even talking about. and how do YOU know what MY weedeater sounds like? you don't. ahahaha bye
Just curious why people like you look at videos like these anyways then. It's like, on today's agenda, go look at videos of cars I hate and say how much I love American muscle knowing I'm going to get bashed on anyways.
omg yu guys r fukin stupid. go get sum research on the car before opening yur mouths, only " idpFATTYs" knows what hes talking about, the car has a rotary engine.
Yeah brosky bro dude the engine is in da back and da intake is bak dere to the blue pipe in da front is just an optical illusion this guy is a magician and rx-8s are known for dere tricks.
Not much. ~5-7 horsepower. An AEM intake and a GReddy cat-back cost about $800 total. All your vacume lines should be connected and sealed. My car threw a CEL after I installed my CAI and it was because the lines connected to the intake pipe itself were a little too big (the weren't sealing all the way). All you need is a couple small metal clamps or zip ties and snug up the vacume lines connecting to the pipe just in front of the throttle body. Drove around a little and the CEL went off.

Oops. I spammed you, my bad. I know its a cold air. I have the same one except red on my RX8. You won't get a big increase in power with a cold air intake on an RX8, but at least you won't lose power like you probably would with a ram air intake. Its worth the extra couple hours of installation. Only bad part about the cold air intake is that its a bitch to install.
The ram-air intakes for the RX8 on the market are pretty much useless. Rotary engines run much hotter than piston engines, so all you're doing is sucking in hot air from being so close to the engine, and the Weapon R intakes are just garbage to begin with.
Many people don't like the sound. It really grows on you though after a while. The smoothness of a rotary engine that never stops turning (unlike a piston engine that stops every revolution) and the sound of 150 revolutions a second is pretty sweet too ;)
yeah I'm sure it does, I have never heard one like up close in person either, so I'm sure that would change my opinion too. I have just never heard a car sound like that before. different is good sometimes though.
Yeah, it doesn't sound like your typical Honda engine in real life. Personally I don't like the GReddy exhaust much, but thats just me. The TurboXS cat-back sounds really good on the RX8 imo.
mate honestly if you heard it in real life it sounds alot different in my opinion i wasnt sure but then i liked it then i heard it at 4000RPM in real life and i love it now
1.3 static, 2.6 when running... rotories are badass imo, Supras and Rx-7s were big rivals in Japan, big companies leaned more torwards the 2jz because its easier to make big power then tuning a 13b for big hp...many don't want the headache playing with the ecu maps. I love the engine, less moving parts, can rev 9k+ rpm...when built, and the afterburning.
I guess you mean front bumper when you say "bar". Actually most true CAI systems put it close to the front bumper, so I guess there alot of stupid people in your eyes. They do make filter wraps and air bypass valves you know, so what is the problem?
That's so stupid, why would you put the air filter near the front bar? its very exposed to dirt from the road, and not to mention VERY HIGH chance of sucking in water?
Yes i have, and this is not ram air you moron. Ram air is often accompanied by a heat shield which can help reduce the intake of hotter air. and RAM AIR should be shorter for it to be called "RAM AIR". Putting it so close to the front bar is very stupid, and anyone without half a brain would agree.
That's the exact argument between short ram intakes and cold air intakes. Cold air intakes are closer in towards the bumper and closer to the ground, sucking in colder air from outside the engine bay.
But in saying that, like what Ashlah says it has a higher risk of sucking in water and dirt. Short ram intakes are the safer option but don't increase the performance as significantly.
This is correct, and markio23. Here in Australia, the front bumper is often referred to as front bar.
Hey i would also have it closer down to the front bumper too, if it never rained :).
A lot of people have different places to have there CAI filter, most common and safest place would be in front of the head light, or making an isolated box for it just below the engine.
i have a red aem intake i'm gonna put on my rx8 when i get enough time to install it, but i'm gonna get a borla exhaust instead. where does the intake and exhaust put you in a straight line? i just walked my neighbor's V6 firebird this morning and last generation mustang gt's aren't much of a problem. not much to race in the small town of yuma. nice rex though.
DUDE THANK YOU FOR PUTTIN THIS VIDEO UP!!!! i seen a picture of an intake that was dropped down there one time and could never find it again and i didnt know who made it!! im thinkin about buyin some extensions n droppin my k&n down there... do u have to use a cover over it?

lacrosse1126 3 years ago
Many people don't like the sound. It really grows on you though after a while. The smoothness of a rotary engine that never stops turning (unlike a piston engine that stops every revolution) and the sound of 150 revolutions a second is pretty sweet too ;)
wasp010 3 years ago
yeah I'm sure it does, I have never heard one like up close in person either, so I'm sure that would change my opinion too. I have just never heard a car sound like that before. different is good sometimes though.
lacrosse1126 3 years ago
Yeah, it doesn't sound like your typical Honda engine in real life. Personally I don't like the GReddy exhaust much, but thats just me. The TurboXS cat-back sounds really good on the RX8 imo.
wasp010 3 years ago
mate honestly if you heard it in real life it sounds alot different in my opinion i wasnt sure but then i liked it then i heard it at 4000RPM in real life and i love it now
mazdamclaren 3 years ago
yeah thats tight, haha maby i'll go test drive one sometime
lacrosse1126 3 years ago
1.3 static, 2.6 when running... rotories are badass imo, Supras and Rx-7s were big rivals in Japan, big companies leaned more torwards the 2jz because its easier to make big power then tuning a 13b for big hp...many don't want the headache playing with the ecu maps. I love the engine, less moving parts, can rev 9k+ rpm...when built, and the afterburning.
Lv1nightmare 3 years ago
hahaha that engine is so small

where else can u get 230 bhp from a 1.3

actually sounds like my shop-vac
xpearlx24 3 years ago
I cant see the flow meter do you have it on or hidden some wear ...or you just installed the CAI and drove off??
ADCVirgo 3 years ago
cant you buy the bypass valve and it keeps the intake from sucking in water and dirt??? its like 20 bucks extra right?
cuomz730 3 years ago
i love that rotating sound
mxz70010 3 years ago
Ashlah that's what a cold air intake is. And it sucking in dirt and getting hydralock is the risk you take by having it.
123amillers 3 years ago
sounds painful.
AndyRoddick969 3 years ago
fear the rotary sexiness.
pcaveney 3 years ago 7
o yea ;)
orochiThing 3 years ago
after installing the aem, did you get the strange clingy noise from the intake when idling?
zed1988 3 years ago
I guess you mean front bumper when you say "bar". Actually most true CAI systems put it close to the front bumper, so I guess there alot of stupid people in your eyes. They do make filter wraps and air bypass valves you know, so what is the problem?
markio23 3 years ago
That's so stupid, why would you put the air filter near the front bar? its very exposed to dirt from the road, and not to mention VERY HIGH chance of sucking in water?
Say good by to your RX8 engine when it rains.
ashlah 3 years ago 2
never heard of ram air?
shadowscion 3 years ago
Yes i have, and this is not ram air you moron. Ram air is often accompanied by a heat shield which can help reduce the intake of hotter air. and RAM AIR should be shorter for it to be called "RAM AIR". Putting it so close to the front bar is very stupid, and anyone without half a brain would agree.
ashlah 3 years ago
That's the exact argument between short ram intakes and cold air intakes. Cold air intakes are closer in towards the bumper and closer to the ground, sucking in colder air from outside the engine bay.
But in saying that, like what Ashlah says it has a higher risk of sucking in water and dirt. Short ram intakes are the safer option but don't increase the performance as significantly.
123amillers 3 years ago

YoItsDLeV 4 years ago
You don't have to use the screen over it, but it protects the air filter's pleats from getting filled with moths, etc.
TheFrequency3 4 years ago
have you ever had a problem with it gettin wet? my friend tiburon got messed up cuz it sucked in water
YoItsDLeV 4 years ago
Sounds a little ricey to me.
