  • Bhp is pointless....

  • Fast and furious yo!

  • Was that just a heat shield around the filter or was that a water shield to prevent it from sucking up water?

  • @mazda6tuner99 water. Made from similar fabric thats used for umbrellas :)

  • cant wait to get mines it will be the only mod i do engine wise before getting my esmeril turbo kit

  • hey how is the aem intake working for you? im planning on getting one soon and i just wanna see how it is..

  • @niknickiboy23 i heard you get slighty better gas mileage and about 8hp and 6or7 ft/lbs of tq so its well worth it and probably the best upgrade you can get for the money next to cobb tuning engine management and a esmeril turbo kit im getting mines soon too.

  • @schassis do you get more hp or does your engine just perform better than it did before because you change the stock?

  • @pollyproof13 well, there should be some power improvements.

with both the cold air intake and the exhaust about +5 to +15 BHP

  • Respond to this video... oh and if anyone needs a full set of rx8 wheels with tires msg me...!

  • Or me.. Mine are black though and have performance tires on them.

  • did the air intake affect ur accelaration at all

  • Comment removed

  • awesome sound!!

  • Why get an AEM? The stock CAI's fine...

  • hey did u have to delete any vacuum lines or did vacuum lines go back n to new intake

  • I love the look of those Blue silicone hoses especially when the hose clamps have blue Clamp aid end guards on them. But thats just my opinion.

  • i could listen to this all day. love the sound bro.

  • I love the sound of the SP2 on the RX8, it has a powerful sound but isnt super loud and annoying. When i finally buy one of these i can only hope to do the same thing and a bit more

  • i was going to get an rx-8 but it really does not agree with a 6'4 guy. so i settled with a turbo charged jetta.

  • @xXGummyBearMafiaXx i just got a rx 8 i have a 2008 and im 6''1 u got 3 more inchs but its fine when u get use to it but it anit the most comfyest ride ether but its a fun and nice lookin car

  • i forgot to put my dryflow cover on :(

  • lol look how much room you have once you remove that oversized air box lol

  • hubba hubba!

  • I can't stand that exhaust note. Sounds like every piece-o-shit Civic with a hole in the muffler I see on the road.

  • @parrish001 AGREE!

  • @parrish001 AGREE! I'd rather hear a V8.

  • @parrish001 cant sound like a civic, considering completely different motors, and this isnt riced out. camera phones never capture any low frequency notes, so all you are hearing is high pitched annoyance. if you hear this exhaust in person, its alot more throatier, even though its kinda loud. i have the mazdaspeed exhaust on mine, sounds so beast

  • @JAMinguitardude1

The only aftermarket exhaust system I've heard for tuners that actually sounds throaty is the Borla exhaust for the Subaru's. That's it.

Everything else sounds like a wide variety of noises I can make for free with my asshole and cheeks; no matter how 'throaty' it may seem. Lower pitched farts or higher ones, it's all farts, a beast with the shits.

  • God that sounds sexy!

  • @XR4turbo It sounds like my nitro RC car haha

  • can some one tell me which CAI would be better for an rx8 this long one or the short ones ?

  • @sneakalologist the long one wich is the cai and the short ones are short rams, cai get colder air wich is better then the hot are the short rams take in, but all in all get the one you like and the one that sounds best to you b/c really they all dont do much but the cai are going to better for the vehicle and have more gains then short ram

  • @mountainboundwbd thanks .

  • @sneakalologist no prob i was going to get the aem cai but im going to use that money for a turbo, goin witht the greddy turbo b/c it comes with everything down to the intercooler and engine manigment and im going to custom it so the intake to the turbo goes down to where a cai filter would sit, haha that was a long your welcome

  • @mountainboundwbd no doubt i had a aem cai in my last car but now i have a rx8 .im just trying to figure out what would be best for this type of car sense its engine is not like any other car but thanks though and good luck .

  • sick ass fuckin intake....prob sucks when you driving in rain...

  • @blackboy101491

works fine in the rain. don't take it to an automatic car wash or drive in a foot of water, that can cause hydrolock. intake is awesome overall though.

  • sounds so fucking amazing!!

  • sounds nice

  • needs new header

  • does this exhaust setup drone?

  • my friend has the same exact performance setup, and its so ridiculously LOUD, but not in a bad way. i think its too extreme for me especially where i live (my neighbors a cop). so for me with some sound and performance, i think ill play it safer with a mazdaspeed dual muffler exhaust. while im at it ill add more mazdaspeed: CAI, F/R strut bars and sway bars.

  • hey guys I have a rx8 and i`m from Oregon USA it rains alot in her do you guys recommend installing a air intake system??

  • yeah go ahead and get it. if your affraid of the chance the filter may get wet, then dont get the cold air intake, short ram intake is ok too.

  • @saviolapibito Sorry if this is late, generally if you are in area where there is a lot of water you want to buy a special sleeve that fits over the filter. However, I've been told this isn't necessary unless the filter will be entirely submerged in water. Its a safety precaution, it's up to you. If you do get a lot ofwater in there, you're kinda fucked...

  • This is my favorite youtube video. I love the sound of that rotary.

  • that is one way to slow the car down! what a waste of money. it does nothing for performance, you are a victim of advertising and marketing.

Why pay to make your car sound like that?

  • Slow it down! Give me a break. Intake and exhaust allows the engine to breath better and produce more power. Why dont you go ahead and keep driving you Buick Roadstar or whatever shit pile you drive and let us autophiles exist in a world without you. Thank you for shutting up!

  • Unless you have a high-flow cat (or go straight-pipe) and have a bigger aftermarket header, it would be bottle necked.

  • High flow cat? Aftermarket header? Header design and "cat" flow is not an issue on performance. Noise regulations from the gov't makes car manufacturers keep exhaust noise down with resonators and large capacity mufflers causing back pressure and slight decrease in mid to top end power.

  • I'm sorry but cat DOES restrict engines power. BMW had to introduce cats for the UK cars for the emissions regulations. without cat it produces alot more power. the m50, s38 etc engines. that i know of

  • well i have the mazdaspeed intake that is exactly like this one and it does help with putting actuall cold air into the engine the stock intake i had durring the summer made the car run like crap! so dont dog too much unless you read and try it for yourself besides rotory is unlike a normal piston driven engine!

  • @urbex2007 wrong

  • you cant tell the loudness and feel from the video~ you have to be in real life to hear how loud it is and feel the vibration of it when you are in another car at the traffic light~ :D

  • that sounds crazy

  • Anyone saying mazdas sound like shit are stupid and probably drive a pussy civc... No YouTube video is going to do its justice of the exhaust. If you heard the rx8 with the sp2 on the road your opinion would definitely be different. Weedeater is definitely not the word that comes to mind when you hear this thing. They sound incredible

  • lol sooooo true!

  • true true pettrone

but fuck you... i drive an Si lol

  • @haloonpc

    lol i love you comment!

  • @Pettrone1 I was behind an RX-8 (in my civic :P) and yes, they sound absolutely amazing!

  • i wouldnt worry, it looks like the filter is one with a shield all the way around to stop that exact thing, -water-

  • dnt put it all the way to the ground might suck up water

  • no AEM and outher manufacturs that make CAI intakes make shure it dosent suck in water/road dust

  • ughhh i see that filter stickin out and it'll suck if you ran into a puddle LOL

  • I don't know man... might be the camera, but it doesn't sound too good lol's.

  • Awesome intake sound.

  • o my freakin god does that car sound nice

  • i personally dont like the sound of RX-8's bring back the 13b sound!!! hahaha

  • is that like a sleeve cuvering the filter so that it'll prevent hydrolocking?

  • yea it is. this guy is pretty smart to have that install in his car.

  • Almost sounds like you have a supercharger. Luvly

  • I love these engines. It's dumbnuts that think they can treat it like a piston engine that give it a bad name.

  • why would u block the radiator like that?

  • i agree!!!

  • HEY now why 5 thumbs down? yall can't say it doesn't sound like one lol Love the car just not the sound.

  • i dont like it either. sounds like when i took the air filter off my weedeater. its just weird.

  • your weed eater doesnt have a resonator on hte intake

  • what are you talking about? neither does this car having an aftermarket intake. ANYWAY, i never said it did. I removed the cover and the filter and revved it....it sounded like that but quieter, simply because the engine is smaller.

  • taking the air filter out wont make it sound different taking the intake resonator off this car did make it sound different

  • ANYWAY...somebody missed my point. this thing sounds like my weedeater when it had no air filter on it. that was my point. If you remove the air filter from a car and rev it with the air box open & no filter, its GOING to sound different lol.

  • your weed eater will sound exactly the same if you take the filter out, the air box doesnt do much to sound cars like this have a resonator on the intake much like an exhaust thats what made this different

  • actually it didn't. i could hear it take in air when i revved it which i didn't with the filter and cover in place. anyway, clearly you are an idiot and are missing my point completely and argueing something that i'm not even talking about. and how do YOU know what MY weedeater sounds like? you don't. ahahaha bye

  • Just curious why people like you look at videos like these anyways then. It's like, on today's agenda, go look at videos of cars I hate and say how much I love American muscle knowing I'm going to get bashed on anyways.

  • HAHAHA, it's probably cause they don't own an american muscle and they wanna make themselves feel better

  • sound like a scooter

  • Why is the heat shield for the air-intake facing forward from the car? Wouldn't you want it to face the radiator??

  • it might be to block water from directly hitting the filter

  • omg where is the engine ? ^^

  • waaaaaay out in front of your slow as car.

  • Comment removed

  • Mounted low and farther back than most engines. 50/50 weight ratio FTW!

  • So is AEM a Trustworthy company?

  • yea they are trustworthy

  • fack ! those rotorys sound weird lol

  • Awesome blender sound =)

  • sounds like a motorcycle to me.

  • omg yu guys r fukin stupid. go get sum research on the car before opening yur mouths, only " idpFATTYs" knows what hes talking about, the car has a rotary engine.

  • ay do you need a certain air intake for your car or can u buy anyone as long as it fits?

  • dude u need a certain one for ur car. if u buy another one thats not meant for ur car ur engine will damage i think.

  • how much horsepower do you think was added?

  • im worried about hydrolocking w/ a CAI

  • LMAO!! thats prob the funniest sht i heard today!!

  • Yeah brosky bro dude the engine is in da back and da intake is bak dere to the blue pipe in da front is just an optical illusion this guy is a magician and rx-8s are known for dere tricks.

    ................

  • bra u wanna go boardin l8r bro?

  • holy shit ur right! unless he moved the engine into his passenger seat LMFAO

  • the engine is in the front. its a rotary engine btw case you diddent know.

  • So it *IS* in the passenger seat! I fucking new it, bitches!

Gonna go surfin', like dudes. Later braws!

  • Any inta on a NA rx8 may MAY get you 5 HP, right around redline.

  • how much hp does this lay down?

  • Not much. ~5-7 horsepower. An AEM intake and a GReddy cat-back cost about $800 total. For that kind of money you could get a Cobb AccessPort which nets you about 15 horsepower, and displays a ton of information as well as checks and clears CEL's. Or the Mazsport Ignition solution which is good for over 10 horsepower.

  • HEy, i got the same intake for my RX 8 and now its throwing check light like crazy. Are we suppose to plug the vacumm to the AEM intake some where? And what about the sensor? or... What the F? HELP ME OUT HERE!

  • All your vacume lines should be connected and sealed. My car threw a CEL after I installed my CAI and it was because the lines connected to the intake pipe itself were a little too big (the weren't sealing all the way). All you need is a couple small metal clamps or zip ties and snug up the vacume lines connecting to the pipe just in front of the throttle body. Drove around a little and the CEL went off.

  • i was wondering if it matters what brand intake u get?

  • Not really... you can also make your own for about 1/2 the price of a pre-made one.

  • the brand itself doesnt matter but id recommend paying more for a good one, companies like AEM have researched and tuned their products to be effective as possible, which definitely beats those cais made of pvc or exhaust piping (as proven on the dyno)

  • thanks

  • i would recommend u isolate all ur air intake tube with aluminum foil which prevents engine heat from heating the tube which would heat the air in it

  • thats a cool idea

  • its really not, if it was designed to not come w/tin foil then i wouldnt do it. and these big brand name companies know what their doing when it comes to keeping temps down. even the diy cais dont use tin foil

  • dude it's common sense to keep as much engine heat out of the intake pipe as possible? why you arguin the point?

  • that sound is unbelievable. awesome, just awesome.

  • Oops. I spammed you, my bad. I know its a cold air. I have the same one except red on my RX8. You won't get a big increase in power with a cold air intake on an RX8, but at least you won't lose power like you probably would with a ram air intake. Its worth the extra couple hours of installation. Only bad part about the cold air intake is that its a bitch to install.

  • The ram-air intakes for the RX8 on the market are pretty much useless. Rotary engines run much hotter than piston engines, so all you're doing is sucking in hot air from being so close to the engine, and the Weapon R intakes are just garbage to begin with.

  • idk if u were talkin 2 sum1 else or just pointing this out but the intake on this RX8 is cold air

  • it kinda sounds like shit... just my opinion.. im sure its fast though

  • Many people don't like the sound. It really grows on you though after a while. The smoothness of a rotary engine that never stops turning (unlike a piston engine that stops every revolution) and the sound of 150 revolutions a second is pretty sweet too ;)

  • yeah I'm sure it does, I have never heard one like up close in person either, so I'm sure that would change my opinion too. I have just never heard a car sound like that before. different is good sometimes though.

  • Yeah, it doesn't sound like your typical Honda engine in real life. Personally I don't like the GReddy exhaust much, but thats just me. The TurboXS cat-back sounds really good on the RX8 imo.

  • mate honestly if you heard it in real life it sounds alot different in my opinion i wasnt sure but then i liked it then i heard it at 4000RPM in real life and i love it now

  • yeah thats tight, haha maby i'll go test drive one sometime

  • 1.3 static, 2.6 when running... rotories are badass imo, Supras and Rx-7s were big rivals in Japan, big companies leaned more torwards the 2jz because its easier to make big power then tuning a 13b for big hp...many don't want the headache playing with the ecu maps. I love the engine, less moving parts, can rev 9k+ rpm...when built, and the afterburning.

  • hahaha that engine is so small

  • where else can u get 230 bhp from a 1.3

  • actually sounds like my shop-vac

  • I cant see the flow meter do you have it on or hidden some wear ...or you just installed the CAI and drove off??

  • cant you buy the bypass valve and it keeps the intake from sucking in water and dirt??? its like 20 bucks extra right?

  • i love that rotating sound

  • Ashlah that's what a cold air intake is. And it sucking in dirt and getting hydralock is the risk you take by having it.

  • sounds painful.

  • fear the rotary sexiness.

  • o yea ;)

  • after installing the aem, did you get the strange clingy noise from the intake when idling?

  • I guess you mean front bumper when you say "bar". Actually most true CAI systems put it close to the front bumper, so I guess there alot of stupid people in your eyes. They do make filter wraps and air bypass valves you know, so what is the problem?

  • That's so stupid, why would you put the air filter near the front bar? its very exposed to dirt from the road, and not to mention VERY HIGH chance of sucking in water?

Say good by to your RX8 engine when it rains.

  • never heard of ram air?

  • Yes i have, and this is not ram air you moron. Ram air is often accompanied by a heat shield which can help reduce the intake of hotter air. and RAM AIR should be shorter for it to be called "RAM AIR". Putting it so close to the front bar is very stupid, and anyone without half a brain would agree.

  • That's the exact argument between short ram intakes and cold air intakes. Cold air intakes are closer in towards the bumper and closer to the ground, sucking in colder air from outside the engine bay.

But in saying that, like what Ashlah says it has a higher risk of sucking in water and dirt. Short ram intakes are the safer option but don't increase the performance as significantly.

  • This is correct, and markio23. Here in Australia, the front bumper is often referred to as front bar.

Hey i would also have it closer down to the front bumper too, if it never rained :).

A lot of people have different places to have there CAI filter, most common and safest place would be in front of the head light, or making an isolated box for it just below the engine.

  • my friend has the same thing:

    RED cold air intake

    greddy catback exhaust

    BLACK AND CHROME RIMS

    silver paint

    CUSTOM BLUE HEADLIGHTS

    manual gearbox

  • God rotaries sound sick! 9000 rpm ftw!

  • Sounds like my leaf blower. Looks good, just sounds kinda weak.

  • Vrooom, fart, fart!! Vroom, fart, fart!! How many ccs is that motor?

  • Exhaust sounds ok but i don't like the intake sound at all

    just my opinion though

  • fart tube man

  • Jeez, that sounds nuts!

  • awesome sounds like a two stroke

  • lol i don't know if i like the weard sound of electric toy car. joke ;-) hehe

  • i do it sounds neat

  • i have a red aem intake i'm gonna put on my rx8 when i get enough time to install it, but i'm gonna get a borla exhaust instead. where does the intake and exhaust put you in a straight line? i just walked my neighbor's V6 firebird this morning and last generation mustang gt's aren't much of a problem. not much to race in the small town of yuma. nice rex though.

  • sound's really nice

  • rusty chainsaw my ass sounds sweet, galants are crap full stop!

  • DUDE THANK YOU FOR PUTTIN THIS VIDEO UP!!!! i seen a picture of an intake that was dropped down there one time and could never find it again and i didnt know who made it!! im thinkin about buyin some extensions n droppin my k&n down there... do u have to use a cover over it?

  • You don't have to use the screen over it, but it protects the air filter's pleats from getting filled with moths, etc.

  • have you ever had a problem with it gettin wet? my friend tiburon got messed up cuz it sucked in water

  • Sounds a little ricey to me.
