I'm at a loss for words with this. Billy Paul's version is wonderful. The Dramatics' version is just as wonderful. I love music that makes me smile. These men should be proud that they've left a musical legacy for us to enjoy. Bravol
BILLY PAUL DID THE ORIGINAL , BUT MY HOMIES DA DRAMATICS MADE IT THEIRS A LOT PEEPS DON'T KNOW THAT THE GROUP WAS BACKED UP BY AN ORCHESTRA ON A LOT OF THERE SONGS , YES THE D.S.O U KNOW IF UR FROM THE 'D'
These are my boys for life, living in jacksonville florida but born and raised in Detroit,mi...this brings back memories from the 70's i'll CHERISH for life.
im ALL OVER THIS! YOU JUST CANT 'GET' THIS NOWADAYS! LIL' KIM GOT ME INTO THE DRAMATICS VIA HER 'NAKED TRUTH' ALBUM 9SAMPLED). SHE GOT WICKED TASTE IN MUSIC!! XX
Ron Banks and Lj Reynolds mixed together beautifully. Even the soul train dancers stopped dancing for this one. Lawd Have Mercy Ron Banks is too fine.
Is this the same episode the Smith Connection was on? Sad to say but the family never got a chance to see it aired. Would be nice to see if you have it. Thanks. Love the Matics too. Thanks for posting.
Ron Banks would often sit in during our radio show The Old School House Party with Gerald McBride on Mix 92.3 in Detroit. I videotaped him the last time he was in the studio with us. He was a really great guy. The entertainment world has lost an untouchable talent.
@blink182grl8 tell your mom a lot of people are sad about this one. I grew up with the Banks family. I lived across the street from Ron when he and the Dramatics released their first smash, "What you see is what you get" I have to tell that as awesome a singer that Ronnie Banks was he was an even better person...believe that!!!!
@gnsky77 My dad taught school with mr banks @ edgar Guest on meyers and fenkell. They were good friends.. Mr Banks introduced us to Ron and I rean into him overseas when i was in the army.. great guy got me and my buddies some great seats to there show..
@mstrgnrA8 I used to live across the street from the Banks family-Ron was one incredible person...I always admired his humbleness he never thought he was too much of star that he did not respect his fans and friends-Mr. and Mrs Banks were like our extended parents...they cared about us and always gave me good advice-I will never forget them-It was a blessing that I was able to attend the services and hang out with them afterwards-I came all the way from Cali would not have missed it...
you know what I love about this music .. the background music....put this song on and listen to the beats of this music and just drink a nice glass of wine and let your mind just relax with the beats... I love these guys a one of a kind talent real talent all these guys can sing. Thanks for the post
This version is cool, however Billy Paul passionate yelling brings out the true emotion in the original version. The guy with the high pitched voice has truly an amazing octive... Wish I could hit that tone =(
Sorry Billy, but u had some competition on this number LOL. LJ Reynolds never let ya down, he's worth the wait. check out Ron. luv these guys. thanks for posting
man everytime ihear these boys man pure talentfor ever the youngins got to step there game up they got big shoes to fill those 70s are killin 80s 90s 2000s bad boys
I saw these guys at The Berkeley Community Theatre back in the 70's when I was still in elementary school. Part of their band had been stuck out of state so all they had was a piano, bass, and drums. Didn't matter. The vocal chops these cats displayed more than made up for the missing instruments. They sang as good on stage as they did in the studio. And of course this was before all the technical wizardry which so many entertainers embrace i.e., prerecorded vocals, etc. Talent always wins out.
I reall would like to know the short guys name. He,s a dynamo, and that guy can blow.Billie Paul this is just a great version of your song.I really enjoy watching this video and guy on the left of the powerhouse ,i want to know his name too!.I never saw them do this song .and it just great to watch these guy,s enjoy their talent. These guys look like they are having a good time ,those were the days , when we did not have a lot of money ,so we just enjoyed the music.
i thought the EXACT same thing!! now i LOVE it. cuz i always liked Wee Gee Howard as the lead singer and never bothered with the LJ Reynolds era of the Dramatics. now im gettin into it. great clip!!

If you never had the chance to see these GREAT fella's live in their prime,
you got no idea what a tight, precise & soulful sound they had (have).
It was if, kinda' the sangin' never stopped, meaning everytime one fella stopped,
another continued in that fab 5 part harmony very few groups ever duplicated.
As close to, (or even closer after '71) to the Tempts in David Ruffin's prime or
early '68 - 71' Dennis Edwards/The Dell's in the last 60's, that's how BAD-ASS
these fella's are!
