  • This is the next step revolution for the source engine. FakeFactory, I really hope that one day you would be able to embed this stuff to a final release!!!

    Could you tell us more about that to confirm or to kill our hope?

    He said that it will not be featured in CM11.

    Really, it's just a bunch of brushes that move when shot. The source engine cant really handle large amounts of this, and makes it very unstable.

  • I believe that the amount of smoke is overwhelming. Any chance of lowering how much appears at a time?

  • this actually isnt that hard to replicate, its pre-determined brushes that break when their health fall under a certain level, other people have done it, the only thing that proves that this is different, is the fact that it's so well optimized, normally doing things like this causes alot of lag and other performance issues. (though it would be nice if this were real DMM, it would prove that the source engine can still last awhile)

  • Nice, but these are actual stones, so I don't think they should really be affected by bullets. And how come the building doesn't collapse? I think this effect should be adapted to each material.

  • Okay people, just so you know, this is a something you can do in source sdk, it's not actual dynamic destruction made by them, it's just wlded physboxes, don't fall for this "dynamic destruction" trick, it's just simple fake dmm, people have done better.

  • Awesome! You just need to get that smoke animation right as well as making the bouncing props animation too when you grenade it. Other than that, you're doing a lot more better than Valve.

  • Seriously???!!! INCREDIBLE! Freaking Half-life 2 with destructible environment! I know your going to change it so my only wish is that in the final version make it much harder to do that much damage. Bullets won't rip through a concrete pillar that fast. Maybe this is just to show what it can do. I love what your doing though.

  • Any way we can get a medium sized, possibly indoor map (House?) in this style.

    Something where the walls won't collapse, but will show damage (Sheet rock and other parts falling off, leaving frame and some indestructible bits.) along with destructible rooms, furniture and props.

    This is just an idea I had, I'm thinking it would be really nifty.

  • doing this with compiled map entities is a bad idea, it makes for a nice video, but it doesn't scale very well at all, chews up ent-data and hurts performance like a motherfucker. You might want to consider a hybrid modeled/coded approach instead.

    Its a bad idea to do it with map entities, I bet 70% of all PCs would lag horrible with more destruction layers.

    The Lightning would be very confusiont too. The only solution would be to use ONLY Dynamic Lightning like Portal 2 do.

    btw building a destruction Layers (with enities) like this is actually very simple.

  • Only cool thing was the pillars since they were ALMOST fully destructable, the rest...eh it's been seen before in other FPS games.

    Well, for alot of reasons I imagine...mainly that while his is enhancing HL2, he still has a base with what to work with, so it's not enough for a resume, maybe he doesn't wanna work for Valve, and while this is awesome, it's been doable in Source for awhile, just no one ever really took the time because it's resource intensive and the effect isn't worthy enough of such a trade off in a retail quality game.

    Also, alot of stuff he uses is other people stuff, though he gives credit.

  • The Mp5 has 9mm bullets . Why the hell is the stone collapsing like cardboard paper ? You couldnt even damage the stone pillar this hard with 50.Cal . Every Soldier and Gunshooter can confirm this. If you are doing this just for demonstration purpose and if you can lower the destruction im ok with that . PLEASE ANSWER JÜRGEN ! Bitte antworte :D
