  • why is tom hanks there?

  • i like him very much.. i laugh with his jokes..

  • Who the hell DISLIKES this?!?

  • @NoteTheTime

    trolls. they're everywhere.

  • The best acceptance speech ever.

  • To quote Stee Martin from one of his earlier albums: "The key of comedy is.... er..."

    (too long pause)

    "Timing!!! Timing!"

The band should have listened to that album at 7:20

  • I actually think that at 4:37 Steve Martin was about to cry. I guess this award meant a lot to him and it moves me that he should show signs of getting so emotional. I really feel for the guy.

  • Watch it to the end, Steve Martin busts out on the banjo.

  • Watch it to the end, Steve Martin busts out on the banjo!

  • steve martin, since 1945. And being old, since 1965.

  • Lenny Bruce, who died from an overdose of police, said comedy is the only true art form because only by laughing at themselves can humans change for the better. Heil, Lenny. I, too, have died from an overdose of police, but I came back better than ever. With the highest powers on my side. They hate the fuzz too.

  • great speech until the paul simon randy newman part caused everyone knows that BOB DYLAN is aMERICA'S BEST LIVING SONGWRITER!!!

  • He is so multi-talented and so wonderful.

He can act, he can be comedic, he can play music, he can write, and he's so amazingly intelligent.

He's just a wonderful person in general.

Notice how whenever he says something, EVERYONE laughs.

  • 8:35 Just EPIC!

  • 4:40: possible panic attack? He referenced that in his autobiography "Born Standing Up" as the reason he stopped smoking weed.

  • The original Sauce boss :-)

  • 5 people has no sense of humor

  • the whole notion of awards for entertainers is so ego driven and self aggrandizing it's nauseating.

  • I love this speech. I've watched it several times. But it still pissed me off that the musicians missed their cue at the end!

  • Steve Martin, a true original. Improvisation genius. For the 5 dislikes don't take him serious for what ever reason the dislikes are. It's funny that Steve can be so expressive with his face and other times he has such a poker face when being funny.

  • A good plastic surgeon can make even the ugly betty's of the world beautiful, but only God can make a comedian. Humans might admire Hollywood pretty people, but they worship the Hollywood funny people.

  • @etbella3 Brilliantly put! Eloquently phrased!

  • I LOVE him so much - he is a fricken genius :)

  • never nominated for an Oscar... how outrageous is that.

  • @myfilmblog Opposite day. The very fact that Hollywood's greatest all-around talent -- in stand-up comedy, in acting dramatic and comedic roles, and most of all, in writing -- has never won an Oscar shows that the Mark Twain Prize is the greatest glory of all.

  • @myfilmblog comedy is not acting. thats why

  • Absolute genius. Steve can still make any type of crowd laugh.

  • Brilliant!

  • How can he keep a straight face?

  • legend!

  • Holy Shit ! Its Larry David. And his comment to Steve Martin was: "pretty, pretty, good Steve".

  • A genius, even if he doesn't say it often.

  • This is a master class in comedic timing.

  • He looks a bit like Charlie Chaplin...

  • Best joke of the night - Tom Hanks ponytail.

  • This man is a genius... and he has been, since before anyone recognized him as such.

I'm, at present, reading the "Autobiography of Mark Twain, Vol. I, " {Magnificent!) and, loving YouTube as I do, I put Twain's name in its search window, and came across this... @6:00 Martin "quotes" Twain, and if Twain didn't actually say this (highly likely), no matter: Martin nails it, and it's something Twain easily could have said.

  • All that funny AND he rips the banjo like nobody's business. Go Steve!

  • Speach??? Try speech.

  • @beatlefied70 wut?

  • comedy orgasm again

  • Steve is the man! : )

  • Did anyone notice that "speach" (sic) is spelled wrong?

  • @amyavital Some may have noticed but they weren't anal enough to point it out. Thank God we have people like you, who are completely perfect in every way and have never made a mistake in their life and feel its their duty to point out everyone else's mistakes. Again thank you. And tell your brother Jesus we say hello.

  • @1108chuck That was a long winded speach! lol

  • Steve Martin is a historical person in writing and comedy playing...I admire this guy...just love him..

  • Funny, you managed to spell speech wrong.

  • @snaptravis Isn't that sad?

  • I would have loved to see Steve Martin on a show like the old Dean Martin Celeb Roasts

  • "Whatever you do, for God's sake: do not name a prize after me."

    LOL!!!

  • id love to see him win an oscar. i know that sounds crazy, but he would give such a good speech!

  • seriously, i would pay to see him just talk

  • We want PINK PANTHER 3 !!!

  • BOB DYLAN IS OUR GREATEST LIVING SONGWRITER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrPernell27

Dude Mark Twain wrote comedic stories. The is the father of satire.

  • @uvebensketched3 very true. what the hell is your point? That's got less than nothing to do with what I said.

  • SPEACH?

  • mark twain comedy prize ? Greatest American author of all time and they name a comedy prize after him ? I HATE hollywood.

  • @IAMthehighway1978 he traveled around doing a cynical comedy act too. he was known for smoking on the stage.

“To stop from smoking is the easiest thing I ever did. I ought to know, for I’ve done it a thousand times.”

  • @IAMthehighway1978

Dude Mark Twain wrote comedic stories. The is the father of satire.

  • @IAMthehighway1978

Dude, Mark Twain wrote comedic stories. He is the father of satire.

  • This is really funny!! :)

    web1cs/Denmark

  • This man is a genius of comedy

  • Funny man.

  • "When I look at the list of people who have been given this award, it makes me very very satisfied. But when I look at the list of people that who haven't been given this award, it makes me even more satisfied." - Legend.

  • Magnificent !!!!!

  • Brilliance.

  • The acceptance speech with Goldie Hawn in the background and his list of gibberish names he thanks, are from the American Comedy Awards. Not sure if there's a clip online, but it is hysterical. We should give Steve Martin awards as often as possible - his acceptance speeches are the best!

  • @stevegelder I saw that on tv once it was HILARIOUS!!! cant find it on here though. shame :(

  • Rofful Mayo!

  • SPEECH IS SPELT WITH TWO E'S! WTF!

  • at about 4:30 we started feel ill, or maybe anxious? omg... and it's like lasting for many seconds... anybody noticed that?

  • @legendarnyziomal that's called acting lol

  • is there like a physical award thingy? what was rhat thing on stage with him?

  • Does anyone know where it was I saw Steve Martin do an acceptance speech where he thanks a list of gibberish names?

I have a feeling he was on stage with maybe Goldie Hawn, who was in fits of laughter as he came out with names like, Maffarafar Huffenwoofer, but I'm damned if I can find it.

    Any ideas anyone?

  • @timpovikings i remember seeing a speech lika that - but just like you, cant recall in what context,

  • @Dvolak82

And I still can't find it.

It was one of those gags that makes you laugh every time and I can't believe it isn't posted.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE STEVE MARTIN DOES A SPEECH WHERE HE THANKS A LIST OF GIBBERISH NAMES?

  • @timpovikings

I have been searching for this clip too, after i saw it on a funny clips show on TV. But have had no luck locating it online!

  • @timpovikings I wonder if it's the same one I've been looking for. I can only remember one part, though. He won the American Cinematheque Lifetime Acheivement Award and during his acceptance speech said something to the effect of, "This is a dream come true because when I was a child, we used to sit around playing 'American Cinematheque Award Show'." Does that ring a bell to you? 'Cause I can't find this acceptance speech anywhere either - could be one and the same.

  • @Jude7714

Could be. I get the feeling he was receiving something and it's one of the funniest clips I've ever seen. I'm sure Goldie Hawn was in back of him in hysterics.

All the worthless clips on here and this one seems to have eluded everybody.

  • It´s great and funny :)))

  • Please change the word in the title from "Speach" to "Speech". Please! When spelled incorrectly, it makes my eyes hurt.

  • "He gave his life..for tourism"...that line still kills me from "King Tut"

  • If only the band had started on cue instead of having Steve have to look over so that they'd start...

  • "And it's hard to believe that my career is still growing strong especially considering that three years ago, I passed away" LMAO!!

  • "What ever you do, for god's sake, DO NOT name a prize after me."

  • He's truly one of the funniest people alive. :D Seriously though...he's on my "bucket list " as one of the people I'd like to meet before I die.

  • King Tut.

  • His timing is spot on. Funny stuff!

  • Band - sucks as hell ; Martin - Great as hell :D

  • where is the rest of the video?

  • The band screwed him up at the end... they missed their cue and were late... Damn band...

  • "And then again, in 2005..."

  • A true comedic legend.

  • @rshcry24 I agree. Have you read "Born Standing Up"? If you haven't, I can't recommend that book enough. It's a wonderful insight into his work and his performing life. I forgive him for the bad (read BAD) movies he's done, because to be fair he has done so much good, and he's just a brilliant comedian.

  • @rshcry24 He wrote the book on laughter. Even his dirty jokes come off immaculately clean.

  • kennedy martin center OOPS! i wasnt supposed to say anything

  • That was hilarious.

And it's nice to see that he can still play the banjo.

  • X L ENT!!! Very entertaining!

  • "let me have hit of that"...brilliant

  • Look it up in GOOGLE and search best stand up comedians of all time and you will find Steve Martin somewhere in the top 5. He is among legends and is considered one of the pioneers of comedy a member of a small group responsible for the popularity of stand up !

  • Peoplel who aren't old enough to remember Steve Martin when he had the arrow thru his head and did the King Tut song, have no idea how talented he is. He doesn't get the recognition he deserves. So many of todays comedians use his material and copy his style. He really is brilliant.

  • ... but often larry was funnier than carl.

  • Shit, they might as well given him the Nobel, because his wit buried deep, is boundless.

  • Can something buried deep be boundless? Just curious.

  • I think he meant rooted deep, as in it extends infinitely outward from its origins, in which case it is an apposite description.

  • Does anyone know if the entire broadcast has been posted somewhere.

  • hello Curb. I wish I knew too.

  • Class

  • How can he be so funny and smart and then make such crap films?

  • I'll give you ten million dollars to make a crap film?

  • if the three amigos was crap then call a psychiatrist because you're insane

  • I guess he just loves to make movies, but doesn't make the right choices in working on which film. I love this guy

  • Don't get me wrong, he's the best. I just wish he'd make his own films and not care if they're hits, just please himself. I loved Bowfinger.

  • Steve, you are a genius. Thanks.

  • Irony is misspelling the word "speech". Bonus points since Mark Twain is mentioned in same title.

That aside, Steve Martin is impeccable with timing and language. So funny.
