  • Jidish is beautiful German is Ugly!

  • @ponhand

"Jidish is beautiful German is Ugly"

You have to remember that Yiddish is based on Medieval High German but it is a distinct dialect as with other German languages. It is closer to Swiss and Austrian German, than it is to Hochdeutch.

Also remember that Yiddish contains some Hebrew words and Slavic words too.

BTW, I don't think any German sounds ugly, but I must admit I prefer some dialects over others. To me Yiddish and Austrian sounds more "folksy", and easier to my ear.

  • @Lagolop To me German sounds like somebody is gasping for air in a metal scrap lake, and Yiddish is like the lake is way behind and: lets relax a bit.

  • @ponhand

OTOH, some people thing Yiddish is very guttural and it is to some extent, but it is also a softer tongue like the Swiss or Austrians would have. Trust me, I love the sound of Yiddish, I'm doing my best to learn it.

    -a gutn tog un gezunterheyt : ))

  • @ponhand

I'll send you some Yiddish music links.

  • @Lagolop send me some yiddish music links please!

  • @ponhand do you speak German? Do you understand it?

    or just prejudiced?

  • @nevernohijab prejudice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ponhand ty

  • @nevernohijab ty for what? I didn't say I say it out of prejudice. i've only said Prejudice as a word. any other questions?

  • @nevernohijab forgive me if i'm a bit sensitive in the german question

  • @ponhand why insult?? ,response from a real jew with many german friends because knowing how to forgive and love is what makes us good human beeings

  • @ma187187187 some things you'll never forgive or forget. I don't care about being a tzaddic, or a beinoni, in this matter.but for sure it wold be better not to feel resentment

  • BEST THING EVER. I love all the Budapest Klezmer Band's contributions to Klezmer music.

  • Brilliant. Danke sehr.

  • Aufstehen,Singen,Mitmachen und Tanzen!!!

    Klasse Interpretation!!!

    Besten Dank!

  • Thank you, but you needn't reply me. I know his name now - he's Tamas Dunai - hungarian actor.

  • What is the name of this man in a green sweater, because I can't find his name on the Budapest Klezmer Band site? Does he sing with this band or is he a guest?

  • @ewa184

His name is Tamás Dunai, Hungarian actor with Yewish roots. By his pronunciation you can hear it a little bit. Very few Hungarian Yews speaks Yiddish. Here only for the performance

  • @aker1508 Thank you for the information.

  • @moogamax

    it does!

  • "You want to speak German? Speak Yiddish without sense of humour!"

    - Train of Life

  • Max0Inq

That was well put. Ppl don't realize that Yiddish is essentially Medieval German and that Jews have lived in Austria and the Rhineland since at least as early as the 2nd century. Many terms commonly used in German and English are actually Yiddish.

Yidl, violino, Schmidl la vita è uno spasso.

Eh, caprone, scemo...è stupido esser tristi!

    Lui bela tutto il giorno

    nella sua barbetta.

  • shalom...from Italy

  • This is in Yiddish, right?

  • Yeah, it's in Yiddish.

Yidl mitn fidl means "Yidl with his fiddle", Yidl being a boy's name, but the 'boy' is actually Itke, Arye (the bass player's) daughter. It's from a Yiddish film made in 1936.

  • 1:26 "Beeeh" :) So funny :)

  • Diese Musik ist Seele pur !

  • i like the jiddisch sound :)

  • Shalom from bavaria!

  • kinda sad but as a jew, this is one of if not the only thing im proud of being a jew for--a connection to klezmer magic and possibly this style of music

I'm brazilian, not jew, but klezmer music is fantastic!

  • Que placer la musica klezmer!! POr suerte es uno de los tantos tesoros judios que el nazismo no consiguio borrar de la tierra, como petendia. Nos queda esa alegria, ese espiritu jovial que nos deja cuando la escuchamos....

  • sensacional, amazing, strong, the most deeper place in the jewish culture.... thanks....

  • Well I don't like this so much. The guy singing does not have the charisma and power to do it.

  • are you jocking?

  • Why would I do that??

  • people, why bother someone because of an opinion?

  • Well everybody got opinions, why keep it to your self in a society? The sad thing is when you are deaf to other viewpoints and cant tolerate others, or if you are ridiculing someone because of his/her opinion.

  • Yep. But that's the world. If you say IN MY OPINION ... and make the IN MY OPINION stand out, people will still say that you suck. Just `you suck' or more commonly `usux'. You should say `in my opinion, you suck' or something like that. Obviously not like that. Something like `I dissagree. In my opinion.' Don't make me teach it to you in French. In school, it took over 2 months to do opinions, and we learned it 1 hour.

  • very good

  • Iber felder vegn, oyf a vogn hey, Mit zun un vint un regn, forn klezmer tsvey. A khidesh, oy, a khidesh, zog ver zenen zey? Yidl mitn fidl, Arye mitn bas, Dos lebn iz a lidl, to vozhe zayn in kas. Hey, Yidl, fidl, shmidl, hey, dos lebn iz a shpas.

  • could someone translate it to me? :)

  • Well i think its something like that:

    Across fields we go,

    On a wagon of hay

With sun and wind and rain,

    Ride two musicians.

    A surprise, what a surprise,

    Tell me who are they?

  • Yidl with his fiddle, Aryeh with his bass, Life is a song, Why should I be upset? Yidl, fidl, shmidl - Hey - This life is a pure fun. A goat stands in the meadow And bleats a sad "meh!" Hey you goat, you foolish one, Being sad is stupid! He nods his little beard, "Truly, truly 'feh'!"
  • No matter how sad and down i feel this song always makes me happy again...

Thank you for this great music!

  • Yes

  • Nice svänger skönt.

  • Trop bien la vidéo,jadore

  • Superbe, rien à dire : ils ont le sens de l'ambiance :-D

  • The style and structure of klezmer as we know it today is thought to have come largely from 19th century Bessarabia (Romania), where the bulk of today's traditional repertoire was written. It is based on hora, sirba, doina, all of them of Romanian origin.

For more detail see Wikipedia Klezmer.

  • But who cares :) I was just on their concert in the synagogue and I was not thinking about the origin... In Transylvania and Moldva there are many people, it is not just simply romanian, don't be so silly. Jews, Germans, Romanians, Hungarians and lots of other people live(d) together there...

so, do not be so nationalist, just listen the music and feel it and if you have time and money, visit one of the concerts :)

  • Silly? Nationalistic? Hmm. I am just making a truthful statement. Great music, by the way :-)

  • I knew it! This sounds just like the traditional Bulgarian chalga (Roma wedding music). Of course, "Romanian" culture is more or less equivalent to Roma culture, as far as I can tell (being neither jewish nor roma). Amazing music, though, anyone has to admit that it is full of folksy charm but also sorrow.

  • "Romanian" culture is NOT more or less equivalent to Roma culture! That's a frequent mistake, due to the similarity of the words Roma and Romanian, plus the high number of Gypsies in Romania.

  • Gostei muito.ESPETACULAR

  • Anyone know what one of their CDs is this on?

  • You folks are the best! WOW

  • very good
