You have to remember that Yiddish is based on Medieval High German but it is a distinct dialect as with other German languages. It is closer to Swiss and Austrian German, than it is to Hochdeutch.
Also remember that Yiddish contains some Hebrew words and Slavic words too.
BTW, I don't think any German sounds ugly, but I must admit I prefer some dialects over others. To me Yiddish and Austrian sounds more "folksy", and easier to my ear.
@Lagolop To me German sounds like somebody is gasping for air in a metal scrap lake, and Yiddish is like the lake is way behind and: lets relax a bit.
OTOH, some people thing Yiddish is very guttural and it is to some extent, but it is also a softer tongue like the Swiss or Austrians would have. Trust me, I love the sound of Yiddish, I'm doing my best to learn it.
@ma187187187 some things you'll never forgive or forget. I don't care about being a tzaddic, or a beinoni, in this matter.but for sure it wold be better not to feel resentment
What is the name of this man in a green sweater, because I can't find his name on the Budapest Klezmer Band site? Does he sing with this band or is he a guest?
His name is Tamás Dunai, Hungarian actor with Yewish roots. By his pronunciation you can hear it a little bit. Very few Hungarian Yews speaks Yiddish. Here only for the performance
@moogamax Exact English translation is "Yiddle With His Fiddle", German: "Jidl mitn Fidl", Polish: "Judel gra na skrzypcach", Yiddish: "ייִדל מיטן פֿידל), Yidl is a male name.

That was well put. Ppl don't realize that Yiddish is essentially Medieval German and that Jews have lived in Austria and the Rhineland since at least as early as the 2nd century. Many terms commonly used in German and English are actually Yiddish.
Yidl mitn fidl means "Yidl with his fiddle", Yidl being a boy's name, but the 'boy' is actually Itke, Arye (the bass player's) daughter. It's from a Yiddish film made in 1936.
