  • The finer things? Yes

  • Ever been in Love, ever been a dreamer ? Drink your cup of laughter , have your ever after. I have. Go out and dance with someone !!! Live Life ! It is all you take with you in the end.

  • best song ever by Steve...

  • 0:55

People in the audience are feeling that.

  • There is an underlying spirituality and sense of hope to all his songs. In my opinion he is the epitome of all that is beautiful about music. He doesn't write songs to look or sound cool like many artists today do. He is true to himself and his music. Five minutes, forty-four seconds of honest, real music.

  • adult contemporary FTW

  • i love everything about steve winwood, 2:52 guy with an eyepatch

  • my fav from Stevie

  • Great song.

  • My favorite song from Steve's album Back in the High Life

  • Winwood is full of soul and talent.

  • Is it me or did people seem more happier making music back then?

  • @Q469 quite simply, it was a better time.. A golden age..

  • The best Winwood song

  • Riding through Balboa Park one evening in 91' Carlos and I got stuck in "traffic" that was going to the Starlight Theater, we rode in Harley to the front of the line, purchased tickets at the spur ot the moment, listened to the great Stevie Winwood and his band that evening...that's the moment... can you dig it...

  • leave all this behind? fly a rainbow? why wont the misery tarnish faster. angels are tired darkness wilting you like this composure? your cheap car. you probably think this song is about you. how would it have been if there were rainbows? cold ivory feels cold tell me your hand is not the same temperatureas mine. dont you ever cry? a recycled river tastes like dirt?

  • awesome mullet, the 80's were fun. I was there and dressed like that and listened to this back then -looking back now it makes me laugh but I wouldn't change a thing.

  • 13 deaf people did not like this.

  • @nathanallencox

Deaf people can't hear at all, so this comment is really pointless. Nor is it funny, dumb joke is dumb. Pointless comment is pointless.

  • @Bendyournoodle they can "feel" the base, I see plenty "deaf" in the nightclubs where I work as a bouncer, and they just as much can enjoy the music as any hearing able person.. so in a sense they can "hear".

  • hold Steve Winwood, and he will let you into his dreams.

  • Who pressed dislike?

  • This song is almost a hymn. Love it!

  • The opening of this song gives me chills! As does the rest of the song.

  • What a bass line.

  • But seriously, folks, they should redo a rendition of this tune featuring Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton, dancing at the end of the song just like what y'all seeing herre...At least that would be one true "change" we can use around here!!!

  • Have I been shoving too much dope up my nose, or, that's Boyd George's former gay lover on guitar (who was also a Culture Club member)...SMALL FRICKEN WORLD, ISN'T?!!!

  • Hey, its Laurence Fishburne singing backup and dancing with the music teacher......J/K I know its not him.

  • This is a Timeless song...... problem is we need to get our kids to get and "HEAR and LISTEN" long enough to appreciate what we already know !!! PEACE !!!

  • This is a Timeless song...... problem is we need to get our get to "HEAR and LISTEN" long enough to appreciate what we already know !!! PEACE !!!

  • He has a signature sound on his synthisizer that hypnotizes you. I wonder if he was tapped by Madonna on her 1989 hit"Cherish"? Sure sounds like it.

  • How can we not be happy with this song.

How can we not have a smile on our faces

This song uplifts and takes us to a Happy Place

    Thumbs all the Way up!!

We need this more in our lifes

  • i think there is good and bad music from every decade. Great music like this song is timeless and words can't do it justice. I was in the darkest hole & this song gave me hope & faith in God.

  • While there is time lets go out and feel everything........if we just lived by tjust hat we would be better off! We need to start listening to this music and not just hearing it because times are getting harder and life is going fatser than ever! Who is in?

  • The music industry says it's losing money because of piracy, that's not true. The real reason is because today's music is awful and people like myself would not buy it. I only support professional singers like of course Steve Winwood,Don Henley, the Eagles,Foreigner,R Kelly,Keith Sweat,Journey,George Michael,Bryan Adams,Starship,Tom Petty,Phil Collins,Eric Carmen,New Edition,Barry White,England Dan and John Ford Coley. REAL MUSIC! :)

Real music from real people! Thank you for posting!

  • @TolitoGangster lol George Michael listed as real music? Seriously? Most of his music went downhill once he left WHAM. The only post WHAM song of his I can still listen to is FATHER FIGURE.

  • @hospitalbedpan1 George Michael has sold millions of albums worldwide and toured around the world with his great music,he has won tons of music awards and is a music legend worldwide,he has a great soulful singing voice, listen to Fastlove,it's got soul,it's funky,it's romantic and very sexy, this is a great song to have sex to,this song was a top 10 hit here in the United States and a number one hit in alot of countries worldwide, this song was huge hit on the radio and big hit on MTV

  • @hospitalbedpan1 George is a pop music king,George has way better vocals,a stronger voice than most singers today and deeper lyrics,he is music is more sexual,he is a love man,a soul man,an r&b pop icon,he is also a pop rock star,he can play instruments and he can play rock,George is the king of real music,he can sing soul,r&b,dance pop, rock, blues, jazz,George is a music king,George is a music king, listen to Fastlove,Amazing,Careless Whisper,Father Figure,Faith,Praying For Time, great songs

  • @ioriorioriorio Steve Winwood continues to record and sell millions of albums long after alot of popular rock artists of the 90s and 2000s have gone away, the music industry was alot more sucessful and made alot more money when it supported real music artists like Steve Winwood instead of the one hit wonder ringtone rock music stars of today, this song is real music,it's got a great message, great vocals, great music played by talented musicians,it's romantic, sexual, playful,a great song for lovers

  • #19 on MTV top 100 videos of 1987

  • @TolitoGangster you hit the nail on the head with this one......the likes of "Lady Gaga" and "Ke$ha" can't sing a lick!!!!

  • That pit is brutal.

  • I heard this song on the day I was fired from my job. Since then, every time I hear it, I remember that day, and it continues to haunt me. But at the same time, I'm sure it's the main message of the song that I need to hear to remind me of how worse things could be while I struggle to find another job.

  • the best part is when steve jumps on the keyboard for that wicked solo

  • @amd2q9 and do you think someone like Gaga could do something like that?

  • @cmmolthr seeing as she is a classically trained pianist, yeah I think she probably could. herp derp, just because she makes terrible music doesn't mean she isn't a professional musician.

  • Anyone suffering from depression should have this song in their arsenal. It's impossible to listen to Finer Things and think everything won't be okay.

  • I love the way he puts his arm around the backup singer and sings with her.

It seems like his whole crew is having fun.

    Steve Winwood rocks.

  • God, we had great , powerful music.

  • if God loves us all and is with us all why did he or she take the only thing that ever made me feel whole and loved and a sense of belonging away from me?

  • who is the librarian playing bongos?

  • @joeglimmix Prat! Librarian, indeed! Bongos, indeed! The musician playing the CONGA drums and other instruments is Carole Steele, a well-known afro-cuban percussionist from California.

  • The melody/lyrics on the verses is so beautiful...gives ya chills. ".......I've been sad...and I've walked bitter streets alone..come morning, there's a good wind to blow me home." nice. 80's music is just great.

  • when I was a little girl I would ride in the car with my mom, Listening to all these classics. This was essentially the soundtrack to everything I saw. Downtown Denver, Womens/mens fashion trends, but most of all of how it felt to be young and inspired then....

  • @TheLeisda - songs like this can make you weep seemingly "out of nowhere" just by sheer nostalgia.

  • @SolusChristus924, It is true, I remember this genre/time in my life like it was yesterday, talk about feeling nostalgic :``D

  • @SolusChristus924 - one of the biggest ones for me is Corey Hart's "Never Surrender'...When that baby comes on the radio unexpectedly, it reminds me of being a teenager...not a care in the world...tears well up.

  • amazing vocals....stands the test of time

  • amazing vocalist....stands the test of time

  • A very heavenly and soothing song. make me feel like driving a mercedes E550 cabriolet down a road next to a tropical beach at sunset that just looks so picturesque....the finer things indeed.

  • THIS SONG IN OF ITSELF IS ONE OF THE FINER THINGS! :)

  • Great uplifting song with a great message.

  • A classic 80's hit.....When I hear the opening melody before Steve starts singing..an instant smile on my face.....It's songs like this that everyone should appreciate. There's is not a single thing negative about this song. It just makes people happy and forget their problems....The "Finer things definitely shine through!!!!!!!

  • the 80's definitely had the greatest variety of music of any decade. what happened to great music? now were stuck with maybe 5 popular artists for 2-3 years at a time.

  • @tkotan It had the best music and it was innocent and timeless.

  • Hit #1 AC, #5 rock, #8 pop in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in the UK? God bless!

  • I AGREE I LOVE THIS SONG EVER SICE I HEARD IT ON DATE WITH AN ANGEL WHEN I WAS LIKE 9 YEARS OLD IM 30 NOW

  • One of my absolute favorites from the 80's.I can listen to this over and over.

  • I love this song.

I really like the keyboard solo at the end, and he plays it.

  • Wow....Conan O'Brien look-a-like! Never knew what this dude looked like when I was singing along to his music 20 years ago!

  • The last couple of times I've seen Steve Winwood all he did was the old Traffic, Blind Faith and Spencer Davis stuff. Great stuff don't get me wrong but I think he short changes his solo years by not playing any of them.

  • one of the feel good songs of the 80s. I agree with thegomez. I cannot believe that music has fallen so much with "artists" like Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Sisters. Is that even music? We need an 80s revival so bad!

  • You couldn't be more right, gomez.

  • He's been a genius since the age of 14- he's seen and done it all, from blues to pop to playing guitar with EC, and Santana. Lets not forget 3 Grammys- super groups, and living in a castle in England, did I mention he was voted the 33rd best vocalist of all time.

Check his new music out- the man doesn't let the legend status keep paying the bills!!!

  • -> Amisbro

No, Chaka Kahn sang backup in Winwood's "Higher Love". The girl in this video is someone else, but thanks anyway.

  • Anyone know who the backup singer and dancer in the golden brown outfit is? She keeps catching my eye.

  • @Mekratrig

I'm trying to remember myself but the name Chaka Kahn rings a bell for some reason. I'm SURE she was featured in one of his videos but I forget if it was this one

  • who the fk are the back st boys and rhihanna ??

  • What ever happened to Winwood? We never hear about him anymore.

  • @shechaiyah

He's appearing with Santana this July in Chicago, so he's still out there working.

  • I probably haven't heard this song in 20 years. It takes me back to my final years of university -- the beginning of real adulthood! :) Love this song!

  • AWESOME what a pick me up when you need it!!!!!!!!

  • REAL Music

  • Thank you Steve Windwood ~ Your music makes me happy

  • Amen to that! thegomez56

  • 'wish I could'a had such a cutie back-up sin g as the little gal in front!

  • i love you stevie

[my dad made me write this]

  • ~~ nostalgic ~~

  • I can be having the worst day at work & then I hear the opening melody before Steve starts singing...an instant smile on my face.

Everyone sings this at work & we dance down the aisles.

It's songs like this that everyone should appreciate. There is not a single thing negative about this song. It just makes people happy & forget their problems.

The finer things definitely shine through.

  • @TEQTONYK OMG soooooooo true awesome glad im no the only one lol!!!

  • Man, I love you comment... Such true words! You really speak to my heart. :-)

  • @TEQTONYK I would have to agree with you, this is a wonderful song, can always bring a smile to my face......

  • @TEQTONYK Well said!!! I want to work where u work!! :)

  • @TEQTONYK I agree, not a single thing negative about this song !!

The finer things definitely do shine through. Good day, Freyja :-))

  • Steve Winwood's Back in the high life is one of the best albums ever...period :)

  • @dreamteampro I agree. Every song on that cd is good. I miss "real" music.

  • Hit #8 in Billboard. Did it chart in the UK?

  • Thanks for being a piece of sound, 3058-87. Those outside are rooting for you every day.

  • I thought of this song constantly through boot camp, MCRD San Diego. 3058-87.

  • all America is in your debt.

  • I was about a year behind you. 2047-88 in Paradise Island.

  • Semper Fi Brother.

  • Such a gorgeous track.

  • Wow, alot of black girls are attractived, aren't they?

  • thank you, steve!!!!!

  • Steve seems to have written the sountrack to my life.

No other artist can evoke emotions in me the way his lyrics do.

    I. L. U. K. T. J.

  • In my opinion, Steve Winwood is among the greatest musicians ever due to his AWESOME compositions from the 80s.

,,Valerie", ,,The Finer Things", ,,Higher Love" - all masterpieces!

Unfortunately, he seems to ignore his sublime decade now, playing only bluesy stuff.

It's not that I wouldn't like blues, but if you are among the greatest race cars ever, you should race and not try to climb mountans like a Jeep. :-)

  • @MrKnopf you just named the songs of the 80s era he does still play n he does this songs as well as well as traffic spencer davis stuff and blind faith just cause he dont play a random song dont mean its not a good show im goin to see him in feb again look for vids on my page

  • And search vor ,,Valerie Live" and ,,The Finer Things Live" - not one single clip from a "new" concert. Why? Because he doesn't play his epic and sublime, timeless masterpieces live. :-) So all you get is a Ultralight - Version of "Higher Love".

But back in the day, in the end of the 80s, that man was sooo AWESOME live and still could be if he wanted to.

  • i wouldn't use youtube clips as a reference check online for setlist of the past years shows plus ive been to shows where i couldn't get my cam in ill get in febs show and post it for you he is playing the pre game at the super bowl as well anyway the 80s was a moment in time dont think he wants to be stuck in them more people are into can't find my way home steve than higher love 80s soul steve

  • Love the way Steve leans into that synth!

  • only! music like this can take you back to when you were young and so alive what a nastalgic feeling a kind of ainxt yet a hurting and also a feeling of longing. thanks to art like this i can visit my bitter sweet past anytime i can handle it.

  • Yep "Higher Love" gives me exactly that feeling.

  • Where are his equals today? My 9 y.o. grandaughter on the other computer seems to like Steve enough. She's never heard it before and she's humming.

  • Hey, it's like you reached into my heart and read what was written on it - these could be my words written right here!!!

  • Jeez I love this song!!

    Steve is wonderful

  • I've finally found this song I heard when I was a child back then! GREAT MUSIC! TIMELESS

  • I never realized Steve Winwood sang so many famous songs before quite honestly....This man literally Ruled Over The Lite/Soft Rock Radio Stations in the late 80's.

The Finer Things Keep Shinin' Through...The Way My Soul Gets Lost In You! Love it!!!

  • @mstech1 He's a great guitar player too. Also plays mandolin and piano.

  • Gran canción del 86´ del LP: Back in the High Life, gracias doble nueve por pasar esta música

  • ive never heard this song.......False

  • this song sounds familiar......

  • This is the first song I can remember hearing, it's attached to a memory of when I was around 1 1/2. The last time I saw my moms best friend.

  • hell of a songwriter.

  • i agree with dtraficonte. if ever there were a saint and a genius rolled into one it's winwood. what an amazing life, carreer. 45 years later i'm still amazed.

  • Timeless classic.

  • this sounds never comes back but he survive all the times and its handmate stuff from a great musican thx god he survive the drugs

  • GOLDERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

  • YOU ARE SO RIGHT "THE GOMEZ56" the old music will live forever!!!

  • People will be listening to this in 30 years time along with Hendrix, Floyd and Clapton because its good music. In 30 years time people will say who fuck were the Backstreet Boys or Rihanna!

  • if i could give u two thumbs up I would. My seven year old says he agrees. realest comment on music ever on YouTube

  • @thegomez56 You're right on the money my man, along with what Mr. TEQTONYK wrote! For music as positive, brilliant & beautiful as this song will live on forever, within that golden, sublime & luminescent musical fraternity destined to play on for the rest of eternity! For even 650 years from now, long after humans began settling & colonizing other planets off in distant galaxsies, this song will still be playing over all the inter-galactic radio waves, from one solar system to the next!

  • @thegomez56 i say that now

  • @thegomez56

    Indeed!

  • @thegomez56 As much as I don't like the Backstreet Boys and Rihanna, in 30 years from now, there will be people listening to some music of the 2000s and 2010s saying it's the shit and that their current music blows. Great music like Steve Winwood's is timeless. Of course, I too am guilty of listening to mostly old stuff, but in any given time period, there are always good and bad artists. For every Steve Winwood, you had a Rick Astley. I love Rick, but his stuff was shallow pop, nothing more.

  • Comment removed

  • @123crashdummie you are so wrong.... There are tons of "pop songs from every decade that are long forgotten. Just look at the majority of top 40 hits from the 70's as a prime example. Every decade has it's "hot guy" or "hot young chick" groups along with other trashy forgotten top 40 pop. But look what's remembered in the end.... the good music. Remember, the mass marketed stuff is for kids and teens who have disposable income to spend on stuff. Will kids buy stuff from 40+ year old artists?

  • @123crashdummie and while on that subject....

How many people still listen to backstreet boys because they are great?

    New kids on the block?

Partridge family songs with that david cassidy guy?

I can go on and on listing those pop songs that are long forgotten. Yes, people still listen to them out of nostaligia, but they are not considered good music. Don't confuse the two.

  • @123crashdummie hahaha shallow pop... hit the nail on the head ..

    still good but funny..

  • @FASMEBSR Thanks! I knew I must have said something right with all those thumbs up, even though that other guy didn't get my point.

  • @123crashdummie Thank you. Every generation is obsessed with its own reflection.

  • @thegomez56 ...uh, in 2010... who are the Backstreets Boys or this Rihansa you speak of?

Seriously though. This songs beginning is so moving if you really think about the lyrics. Its' nearly driven me to tears... a song to live by.

  • @thegomez56 amen gomez AMEN he has a mystical quality about himself... in voice...guitar,,and that freakin awesome Hammond.....Stevie...someone has blessed you...maybe it was Gomez :)~~

  • You can tell today's music isn't as good as this.

  • I think steve winwood is the second coming of christ

  • Oh my word! I just spotted a treble clef crystal brooch on his lapel. I bought one of these in 1986 (from Ratners), and still have it. Does this mean I am as cool as Steve? I must be. Yes I must be.

  • who cares how old...lsiten to the timeless song

  • True, but for some reason, the sound quality, is quite good.

  • Does anyone know the name of the guitarist who appears first at 1.04?

  • it looks like eddie murphy his drummer at 5:17

  • He sounds like Haddaway.
