Is it just me, or in every single Epica video someone says "she is ill".......we should stop coming up with excuses to justify her “less good” performances. At least she sings live and doesn’t sound like an old goat! :D

For me, the best women live in metal are Floor Jansen and “Masha Scream” ...that last one is a very different style though!! xD

It is normal that she sounds different at studio than live. Vocalists with jazz basis used to be like that.

Anyways, she did pick ask the notes very well and she could take care of her acoustic sound of not being to annoying with the higher notes. I liked the way she manages her register and intervals. She is quite good enough in vocal technique and that's the important thing.

This one was VERY GOOD! actually, her voice has changed a lot! but in a good way, of course she sounds a bit different but still great, i really love this performance and yes sometimes she doesn't sound good live but she is a human being she makes mistakes and then she corrects her mistakes and proves us again that she CAN sing. Period!

I like the subtle differences and interpretation of the song - in fact this is my favorite version - not sure what all the nitpicking with Simone's voice is all about (get a life, people!), but this is absolutely wonderful and hauntingly beautiful! Coen's piano playing is top notch here too!

For all of you who says she can't sing live go and listen to The Classical Conspiracy.She DID SOUND perfect in that live concert.Songs such as Chasing The Dragon,Cry For The Moon,Safeguard To Paradise,The Last Crusade,Sancta Terra,The Phantom Agony,Consign to Oblivion are even better than the originals.Come on people she is a very good singer,probably she's not the best but she's one of the best.She has good and bad days but not for that it means she's not a good singer.

@spupydo Yeah, She can sing but it is a FACT that she doesn't sound as good as she does on the albums. If you can't hear that, Then you are in denial. Simon is my second favorite vocalist, I adore her, But I will admit that she sounds a lot different live.

I checked out Floor Jansen after seeing comments below (never heard of her). I tell you one thing - in the Female MetalHead cage fighting department - she'd win hands down. But that's all I'm going to say. However - I don't want my Simone to be beaten up - her voice is too precious.

@unknowman666 Absolutely -sorry if I sounded over critical. I rate them SO highly (more than any band over here) This number is SO hard. there is no where to hide! Pinkpop looks an AMAZING venue. How I would like to have been there! Everybody is so happy - and Epica are clearly in their element. When they come over here (and I will see them) in March they will play in some right 'low dives' because they're not known here. I bet they dont perform Solitary Ground either. 'Cause I LOVE this song.

@unknowman666 I think I've been over harsh (I expect too much!) so I've removed that and rephrased it owing to your very mild but correct reproof!.What I've noticed is that you Dutch are so polite and restrained.. If I had criticised some other country's favourite band like that (and I have) they would have heaped abuse on me (and they have) !! She's teasing us with her quality and banter! Unfortunately so is Coen Janssen with that fluff at 0.32 and an out-of-tune guitar which throws Simone out in the opening phrase. But she recovers admirably (and gets bftter and better). Im not too keen on the stop-start chords at 4.12 which i.m.o. dont suit this (Fantastic) song. It's so hard to perform live because she (and Coen) are so exposed. Given that, even on a slight off-day she (and they) are still pretty phenomenal.
