Thrice and Tool are both great bands but comparing them is like comparing apples to oranges.

Best modern bands in my opinion;

Thrice / Pendulum / Tool / The Hives / Massive Attack

If you're gonna make some smart-ass comment on why The Hives are in my list, you definately never heard their best songs, and you can suck my ass.

@FreshAir911 - I'm not going to make a smart ass comment about why The Hives are in your list, but I honestly can't fathom how you would dare put Thrice and Tool in the same list... Thrice is nothing if not completely, and utterly the epitome of amazing music. Tool doesn't even come close to that.

@thricetimesthrice @FreshAir911 I disagree. Tool is an unbelievable band as well. I wouldn't quite put them on the same level as Thrice for two reasons:

1) Consistency in quality of work released (I don't think I've ever heard a Thrice song that I haven't truly loved) and

2) Diversity in sound. Thrice is one of few bands that diversifies their sound THAT much album to album (I am, of course, speaking only of current bands... )

Still though, Tool has some music that is pure genius.

@thricetimesthrice I hope your joking. I love Thrice, but Tool are musical geniuses. Danny Carey, their drummer, is able to play insane polyrhythms. Also, they are able to play extremely complex music, but without sounding too overly technical or odd sounding. Using different textures and layers they create music that sounds normal to the average listener, but is very complex.

@Dkolps in this song, the brass strings drive the melody to the chord progression, and he's able to mute the top 3 strings easier with the gloves, imo.
