my theory is it is a sink hole caused by some sort of underground bunker type facility. All throughout the Rocky Mountain chain there are secret facilities being built by the Shadow Government (NWO), with an intricate and vast network of connecting tunnels. I was just reading about lightning trenches, and perhaps thats another likely cause. Lightning is common in this area and a good bolt and leave a nice hole and eject a chunk of ground in another direction.

Not really. Likely due to multiple siesmic waves coming together in synchronization in one particular spot. Its sort of like an earthquake version of a "rogue wave" seen on the high seas. Siesmic waves can also reflect and bounce around much like waves on the ocean do, increasing the chance of a particular spot receiving a massive amplification effect when they collide.
