It is really great to hear this song again. I really think that The Blow Monkeys are one of the best bands to emerge from Britain during the 1980's and really admire them. I saw them at The Jazz Cafe in London about two years ago and they were really special. In fact, I was right at the front and Dr Robert handed me his guitar at the end of The Blow Monkey's performance, though I made a complete fool of myself when I spoke to Dr Robert when he signed Devil's Tavern shortly afterwards !!
Time) To get a hold of all the things that make you sold It's time to reposes the means that serve you best How can you stand by in the shadow of the phone Humble servants make their home Oh baby This Is Your life and It's sad Now It's time (Time Time to grab a hold of your life There's a saying going round and it goes like this Said what you never had baby you won't miss There's a saying going round and it goes like this Survival of the fittest To all the broken families down on bended knees
ABC will always be my band, but I think one of the reasons that I also liked The Blow Monkeys was because they reminded me of ABC. I recall Martin Fry once joking that he might give his wardrobe to The Blow Monkeys or Hue and Cry!
They were always a barometer of forthcoming fashion. When this came out i bought myself a spotty tie, and was ridiculed. 2 months later everyone in Leeds was wearing one. Fantastic band.
I am a huge fan of Culture Club, Wham/George Michael, Duran Duran and others but The Blow Monkeys are better than all of them yet they never really got the credit that they deserved.
i play the long version almost every day. and i 'm a dj in a famous greek strip club. but good music will never be forgotten if us-(djs)-will resist to the continuous garbages that the record companies try to promote and sell. still u can hear nice stuff. but rare to find...
This is my favorite BM track. I love the contrast. The lyrics are so melancholy, but the music is so uplifting. The other video has better visuals. But they never get to the saying: Survival of the fittest!
Do you happen to know if in the 80s the digging your scene video was different than the one we see on ebay now? As in, not being one of performance footage?
@vwarn83 On 18 November 2007, the original band members announced the reunion of the Blow Monkeys, as well as a new album Devil's Tavern and a tour in 2008. The album was funded by the pre-orders placed by fans. The release date for the album was 8 September 2008. Q magazine reviewed the album by saying, "Their first album in 18 years still finds the frontman in fine voice; Robert continues to sound like he dresses only in velvet and smokes cigarillos"
I also could not stop playing this video Rosslea. It was when I was finishing a course. I am happy that they recently decided to reform recently and are making a new album
que colosos de los 80 los blow monkeys ese es el tema que m'encanta de ellos!! muy movidete como a mi me gusta por supuesto!!! muy buen trabajo en esta cancion si señor!!!
I'm not sure how popular the Blow Monkeys were in the UK but I can say as a Canadian, they were played on MuchMusic in English and Musique Plus in French but I get the feeling they were not played that much in the US. Could this be a reason why they did not get the fame they deserved? Not sure...just guessing
as usual, upbeat pop music belie a rather dark and clever message from DR. & what would a blow monkeys track be without a sax solo? thanks for the upload!
wow, i never heard the actual single version of this track. it's different (and better) than the version on the greatest hits CD. not to mention a great video.
