@SilentDestruction900 I don't really have any experience with Randall amps, but Ravens are dirt cheap, and sound decent for the price. And if you can find a used one, it won't cost you much. I actually just sold my Raven RG60 for $75. I've seen some going for $50-60.
Ok, i have enough money to buy the rg20, and I can get some more so i can get the rg60, i couldnt decide wich one cuz the rg20 has 2 effects and the rg60 has only one, but with your videos now I know that i'll definetely get the rg60, thanks a lot!!
@MrBusterguitarplayer IMO, digital/modeling guitar pedals never sound quite right goin into an amp. Also depends on what kind of pickups you have in your ESP... the Raven is a good, budget, solid-state amp, but it's not an ultra high gain amp. if you have EMG's or any hot 'metal' pickups tho, it should provide enough chunk when you crank the amp.
@leatherwings007 Hey man, would really apreciate if you would answer me this question, is this amp loud enough for small gigs? At full volume? Thanks.
@slipknotliptica1234 It's not pictured in the vid, but I use a Marshall-brand 2-button footswitch. Any 2-button footswitch with a TRS end ought to work fine.
@leatherwings007 what do you mean by a TRS end? and what do you think about the distortion? because in some other videos they complain that the distortion is not actually that good for metallica music
@slipknotliptica1234 Tip, Ring, Sleeve (stereo) plug. I think the distortion is actually fine for Metallica-style music, but not so much if you're goin for something more Pantera-style.
i had my friend bring this over my house and i have a 100 watt marshall 250 dx series and the raven blew my amp out the effen water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What do you think of the clean channel? I'm looking for something similar to a Fender Frontman 212R for cleans. I realize this has excellent drive which is nice.
@leatherwings007 Thanks, Right now I have a behringer and Line 6 and both aren't very well for cleans but I played a Marshall Mg60 and it was nice but I was looking for something big and reasonably priced. Thanks for your help, I'll be sure to try one out on my next trip to Guitar Center :p
have you ever jammed with a band or gigged with the raven? i have a 1/2 stack so i got the gig amp covered, the band im in jams on the top floor of a barn were we have a stage, the first floor has 20ft high ceilings and lugging a 4x12 up and down sucks, any way i wanted to know if you ever pushed it to the volume limit and how loud it was/what room were you in-i plan on plugging a modeling pedal into it or just buying a small pa.
@yungskiz The RG60 gets loud enough to jam with a full band. i occasionally jam at my friend's hair salon (sounds weird, but it's actually pretty cool) where he keeps his drums, and has no problem cutting through. The amp sounds great when it's pushed hard.
@valdivia562 Yeah, this amp doesn't have ultra distortion, but it sounds alot better when you really crank it and overdrive the speaker. I'll try to get another video made of the amp while jamming with a drummer
nice playing man! =) so i tried out this amp at GC and i left with a pretty good impression of it i see you can get to a close metallica sound. How do you think it would fair with more heavy technical stuff like gojira or messhuggah and other styles like jazz blues or post-hardcore prog rock like sparta, mars volta, and at the drive-in?
@Aaronisadumdshit Well, for the super hardcore stuff, you might need an overdrive pedal to get that ultra distorted sound, since this amp does not necessarily have a massive amount of distortion. But as i've said before to others, the higher you turn up the volume, the better the amp sounds due to the speaker being overdriven. also, I think it should be fine for prog rock...
@leatherwings007 hmm ok thanks for the info i should be able to get this amp sometime in November =) just need more time to test it out at GC. Thanks again.
@gkliwinski I think this amp should be fine for gigging. Even if you didn't have the benefit of being able to mic your amp on stage to run it through the PA, it should still have enough juice to be heard over drums. But mic'ing your amp is still by far the best option.
Works fine with pedals. It's got inputs in the back for an effects loop.
Nice playing, nice sounding amp, I think you have me convinced. However, I just have one question, how well do you think this amp would fare with more Paul Gilbert/Steve Vai type playing?
@Butzopower I recon it ought to be fine... it's not a super-saturated-distortion amp, but does allow for more the guitar's characteristics to sound through. that would probably be a good trait for that style of playing
@SORGENSxKAMMER i don't see any reason why it wouldn't work just fine. i don't know if it makes any difference, but the rg60/100 has effects loop inputs in the back.
Great Stuff! I've got the Raven RG20---a great amp for anything; but for Metal it needs a pedal.
P.S. Since some folk care about what kind of foot-ware is to be worn when playing Metal:---if they really want to be tough, and I mean really tough, they would ware old lead deep sea diving boots like I do! You would not believe how often I have to buy the same pedals over and over again.
thx man. for metal where extreme distortion is needed, a pedal would certainly be good. but turning the amp up loud helps to over-drive the speaker and gives a fuller, more robust distortion tone. that, and having high output pickups.
the footswitch you see in the video is actually the one that came with the Crate GFX amp that i'm sitting on. it's not in this vid, but i use a Marshall two-button footswitch with the Raven amp.
@leatherwings007 alright thanks, well i ordered this amp a couple days ago in the mail cause i couldnt find it anywhere in there area. So anyway the amp makes this buzzing/hissing sound. Its not my guitar and it even makes the sound when the volume is all the way down? i was just wondering if ur amp does this
but if the volume is turned all the way down, then maybe you have a defective amp. send it back for a new one. any respectable dealer won't charge you for return shipping
That is in fact Metallica, ever hear The Four Horsemen?
And who gives a shit about the sandals? And his guitar (ESP EC-50) with the EMG's is perfect for heavy music, i just think you're a fucking dipshit who thinks he knows everything but doesn't even play guitar.
@bradyhasguitarskills Hey man I was tryin to help out then you have to come on here and take it too far. I think it was Jesus who said For whom the bell tolls, the bell tolls for thee If that doesn't convice you who is more of a metalica fan me, him, or you I don't know what will.
@bradyhasguitarskills And by the way I don't need to play gutar if I know what the guys are trying to say with their insturments. I was just trying to share my understanding. What this guy is trying to say with his guitar is way different than what metallica is trying to say with theirs. Now that I proved all you haters wrong maybe you should keep your opinions to yourself.
@justinemeryglover wow you're such an asshole man. he didnt say he was metallica hes just trying to demonstrate the metal tones of this amp. and who the fuck cares what he wears on his feet. i dont think you know anything about guitars at all. Vs are cool and stuff but that ltd hes playing is essentially the same thing james hetfield plays, an ec with emgs.
Yeah, justinemeryglover. And you know what Jesus wore on his feet? That's right, guy, sandals! As we all know, Jesus was the ultimate tough-guy, and we all knew that he refused to 'Tapout.' Just take a look at for whom the bell tolls for now... i believe it tolls for thee.
@leatherwings007 i know this is fucked but he couldnt move his hands so how could he tapout? Im looking to get a backup/budget amp and this one might be it, it sounds good and it works for metal
yeah, this is a good budget amp. some ppl are like, "dude, tube amps are way better...," it's like, no shit, but they are also significantly more expensive. i already a tubed half stack, so i just needed a good, portable, inexpensive combo amp for jamming and what not
I was thinkin between the half stack Raven or the Randall RX100 stack for affordable amps. Any preferences?

On its own this amp comes close to metal but doesnt quite get it without an overdrive pedal like a tubescreamer to give it that extra boost.
