  • @ALEPHUNLIMITED - It's always great to hear this was helpful. I keep thinking should do some more on some of the stuff I've learned in shooting and editing, plus maybe some sound test videos using the DM100 boom mic.

  • Thank you so much for this! : )

  • @papasalas You're welcome ... glad you found it helpful ... sorry for the delayed response.

  • THANKS! After searching through google and not finding much help this video helped me to upload my hd videos for my vixia hf r100!

  • @livesurflaughlove - thanks for the kind words; it's neat to find something that 'just works'

  • thank goodness for this video i have the canon fs200 and it worked just the same! if it wasnt for this i would have a sd card filled up with video clips! thank you so much tom!!

  • @alexandramontiel - Glad you found this supportive. I am so tickled so many have found this little video ... and found it to be supportive. Thanks for your kind comment, Alexandra.

  • @alexandramontiel - thanks for the kind words - it's great to find something every once in a while that 'just works'

  • Tom, I find my MacBook doesn't always show my camera in the finder, so I can't "eject" it. Of course, my LCD continues to say "not to disconnect" while connected to the PC. I end up having to do it anyway. Does this happen to you?

  • @dfdbagkmdatd I've not downloaded to a MacBook yet, so I'll conjecture that it may behave differently ... but that's only conjecture. It sounds like the HF200 DOES show up in the finder sometimes? That does sound a bit odd, and I'm not quite sure what to say about that behavior.

As long as the download goes OK and the HF200 keeps on workin' all should be OK, I would guess.

  • This is the second time I've needed to download video and I immediately pulled up your video I had bookmarked. It had been a while since I watched it and it's very helpful! I remember the hours I struggled trying to figure it out until I found you. I'm very grateful!

  • @dfdbagkmdatd Thanks. It's just been very gratifying to receive supportive feedback like yours. Maybe I should think about doing some more YouTube stuff on my experiences with the HF200 - it's just such a fun, awesome piece of gear! Any thoughts you might have on what might be useful?

  • hey tcmiles ty for your vid, it allowed me to further push the research on a common problem I have found that people are asking you. why isn't my canon memory showing as canon in "finder" on mac. I'll make a video response tomorrow on it.

  • @acurainferno Cool! Looking forward to seeing your vid. Question: what should I do or describe next that might be supportive to the community?

  • thanks mate, really helped me out.

  • @burgoyne69 Glad to be of assistance - happy video trails!

  • Tom,

Thanks for the Help you are a genius. I too ran into the same problem, but I also was using a PowerPC Mac. New Mac Book Pro, your tutorial, and I am dialed in. I am going to assume the same process will work for final cut pro.

    Curt

  • @barkeyc I'd be interested to know if your assumption regarding Final Cut Pro works out.

  • could you help me? when i connect my hf200 the mac recognizes that there is something connected but it appears as no name not canon hdd. do you know why?

  • @reindog107 - When I'm just downloading photos and not videos the Canon does not seem to appear in Finder. When I download videos, Finder just says Canon, not "Canon HDD." I would guess as long as your download actually takes place to either iPhoto or iMovie you're OK. Hope some of this is supportive.

  • @tcmiles88 i'm borrowing a sd card from my friend right now and imovie is only recognizing his videos

  • Thanks Tom. Mac home today and just couldn''t figure it out. Easy Peasy now we know how. Thanks for the 'Know How'! Very nice of you to share the information.

  • @PelsFishingOwl Glad this was supportive to you; it's great to hear from folks like you. I'm thinking about doing another vid on how my purchase of the DM-100 boom mic has noticeably improved my production quality overall.

  • @tcmiles88 Please so do, I just bought the HF S100 and I was thinking of purchasing the DM-100 as well, I would love to hear your thoughts. I currently am using the mic output on the camera. Do you have any thoughts on bringing .mts files on a Mac? I need to get a move -party plugin/convertor to work with my movie files in Final Cut Express.

  • Thank you very much for making this video. I was new to my iMac and could NOT figure out a simple way to do this. Popping in the SD card did not work. Not sure why - would think it would be that easy. But this video was great - Nice job and nice use of your Mac to make the presentation!

  • @TheScottEFrancis I really do need to run my own test with an SD card reader, I'm very curious as to the download quickness, etc. Thanks for watching and glad it was supportive.

  • Thanks for the help. It is weird that my macBook Pro does not register that the camera is connected but it worked anyway. I guess I need to keep playing with it. Thanks!

  • Same here! I struggled with this for too long. THANKS!!

  • @dfddempsey Yeah, this one was tricky for me for a couple of weeks, too

  • Hi Tom, I cant find a UPLOAD ALL option on imovie. :( and I only see 1 drive come up when I connect, which is the memory card// Im using Imovie HD

  • Hi Clemente310x - I find that UPLOAD ALL only shows up in iPhoto. What happens for me in iMovie is 1) camera video monitor shows thumbnails being created/uploaded, and 2) iMovie spins the clock symbol until the clips upload then show up in the Event Library. But ... I haven't used the flashcard device/cable yet, so don't know how that appears in iMovie. Let me know if any of that helps with your flashcard reader.

  • I wouldn't have been able to figure it out without your video - Thanks a bunch

  • @dogsquadaz Just got myself too busy - thanks for watching

  • VERY helpful. Thanks very much for sharing.

  • Always glad for the good words ... and glad it worked for you,

  • @W66 apologies for tardy appreciation - thanks - glad you got value

  • Tom:

My computer don't read the Canon, just my memory card. My IMovie program, IMovie HD imports it but the clips are abbreviated and look pixelated.

Not sure what the problem is. Also no matter what I do the warning not to unplug or shut off the camera still stays on-even when I eject the card, a Class ^Kingston SD card.

    ANy tips?

    Stephen

  • The Canon screen warning seems to change - the camera screen won't complain but the iMac will complain about something being unplugged that wasn't properly ejected. If the icon in the finder shows eject that's all the "notice" you seem to get.

  • are you sure this sounds so hard why cant you just pull out the card pop it in the pc and inport the footage that way ? thanks !

  • Card reader would be a great solution - thinking about going that way myself because of reportedly much quicker downloading.

  • Great how to video. Very clear and concise instructions. I am getting this camcorder so your video will be in my favorites for reference. Thnx again!

  • Hey Punisher, thanks for kind words. Lovin' my HF200 and playing with the Canon boom mic attachment - seems to work quite well.

  • Hi Tom . Thanks for creating this Youtube post. It saved me a lot of time setting up my HF200 .. you created a very clear, easy to understand post. Thank you again from Australia ... Phil

  • Hi Phil - just finishing reading "Mutant Message Down Under" for the second time - wish I could pop thru the web to take some videos in Australia!

  • Very helpful video! I followed your instructions and it worked. I just got my HF200 today and there is not anything in the manual that shows you how to do that as easily and clearly as you did. Thank you!

  • Glad you liked it - HF200 is awesome!

  • Congratulations on your Canon HF200 camera. It sure is a great camera. I love it more and more every day.
