Great song, I've always liked his music. He was one of those people that just had their own style and didn't have to copy everyone else's. Thanks for all the great music, RIP brother.
I discovered Robert Palmer when I was transferring some LPs and cassettes to CD for my father's friend. This is probably my favorite song off of Riptide, however they're all fantastic songs. He was such a incredibly talented singer and I'm sorry he's no longer around. Thanks for the memories, Robert!
Robert was a genius, and I love him for throwing this little gem out there, there are other pieces of his work out there, let's get on it and make it happen!
One of the most greatest songs ever...didn't even know they made a vid for this...Bless you for posting! Thought i was da biggest fan and i missed this..lol Thanx! 5/5
SORRY SOME ONE SENT THIS TO ME AND IT SCARED ME SO I HAD TO DO IT PLZ FORGIVE ME IM NOT TRYING TO ADVERTISE BUT IM SCARED OF WHAT IT SEES in 1908 a lady named sally rusa was in the woods looking for a dog until a ghost came and killed her so if ur reading this u will find a bloody body in your closet hanging there haunting you and will kill you and ur family and if u want to stop this just sends this to 6 videos in 30 mins or this will happen good luck
Beautiful song from a film of 1934, I think this good version of Mr. Robert Palmer gives the oportunity a new generations to know this song! But for me 1985 are so far!, It's big diference have 25 or 50 years old and sometimes I'm feeling very older!
I had no idea he made a video of this. I wouldn't have thought it was a big song, what with the style of his successful pop hits. The guy could really sing any style and a lot of his best work was wholly underrated.
On a side note, it's slightly irritating to have to have a quick reality check when I think "Oh, 1985 - that wasn't that long ago!" I keep forgetting I'm getting older!
A really, really, really great album. Not a bad song on it. I don't buy much music or video for relistening or watching, but I've listened to this album over and over hundreds of times.
A lot of these forgotton melodies really are very 'catchy'. This version is way better than the original which was sung by Ruth Etting in the 'dark ages'. Pity ol` Palmer had to die so young, I like his style.
wow, I did not even know he did a video for this track. I gotta say the video is pretty fuckin depressing. This album riptide is what put him on the billboard charts at number 1!
This is one of my all time favorite records and the models to come are absolutely mezmerizing and gorgeous. R.I.P. we miss you man you were always ahead of the curve in music.
Robert Palmer's Riptide was used to introduce the 1986 Commonweath Games from Edinburgh, televised by the BBC. What a haunting, hypnotic and soothing piece of music.
Song written by the prolific Gus Kahn and Walter Donaldson for 1934 Film 'Rip Tide' starring Moira Shearer and Robert Montgomery. Al Bowlly & Lew Stone Band also recorded it.
None had the clever instrumentation of Robt. P.'s version though.
Interestingly enough, this was a cover of a really old song from the 1930's or 1940's which originally was sung really fast by a rather posh-sounding British man!
I've never actually heard this song before. There is something so sweet and classic about this piece. Reminds me of Rhapsody in Blue. I grew up listening to Robert Palmer and was so lucky to see him live in 1985. I only wish I could have seen him with Power Station. He was so talented and so amazing. I was heartbroken when he died.
I dunno if u noticed, but there are some similar riffs to Addicted to Love in this song. I know that this song came from the same album as Addicted to Love.
saw him a cpl of times in concert fantastic nights also sent away a cpl of cd inserts to his management team 12 yrs ago 18 months later came to come back ,,,but they made it back sighned
sad to say i only heard this track for the first time last sunday on the soundtrack of michael palins new europe,,,a great artist was robert palmer,,lovely piece of music
Palmer was a lifelong chain-smoker. I even read in an interview that he smoked heavily when he was young to age his voice and give it that bluesy feel.
Too bad that might have contributed to taking his life.
I didn't know there was a video for this song. huh. Lots of walking...which is pretty good I guess. And there's the 'Addicted to Love' girls...that's cool. Hmmm, more walking. Maybe he's getting smokes. Ok, here we go...lyrics.
