you have an exhaust leak. it's where the x pipe meets the manifold at the ball socket join. i had the same exact sound. you need to take out the manifold and knock out the lugs and put in some grade 8's. it will give you a cleaner, throatier, muscle car sound.

(also my first car was a 91 lx 5.0 5spd) Mods are (on the 02) C&L throttle body+mass air, Mac cold air kit, Ford racing heads & cams (which helped a little, but they need hogged out), headers, no cats, MIL delete, BBK h-pipe, flow's dumped, 3:73 gear, new 4r70w tranny. But ya know, what do I know. I don't own a PONY CAR. LMFAO.

The reason I rag on 2 valves so much is the poor design, the small cylinder bores, the crappy head flow, and let's not forget the plastic intake!!!! (yes I know ls1's have them too). Your Lt1 with the LT4 hotkit would smoke the sh!t out of my 2 valve, they just respond to mods very well, much like the ls1. You take the money you'd spend on a Cobra, and put it into that LT1, you'd beat most mildly

I haven't raced a 99-04 GT yet, but my best friend has raced a couple in his Z28 LT1 and he beat a stock 00 GT. However he got his ass kicked by a Kenne Bell GT. LOL
@smallfry0764 Well, it's not really a crappy design. You see it as that way because it doesn't compare up to the 5.7. A H/C/I 5.4 2v isn't a pushover. The main problem would be headflow with 2 v engines. A pair of trick flow heads will fix that, but hey push power into a higher band. getting a bottom end is key.. regardless of what you get... I'm just going to build my motor piece by piece...
@Texarmageddon You are right somewhat, not trying to be a d!ckhead, but if the heads don't flow right, and they come from the factory like that, then wouldn't that be a design flaw? I think it would. Just saying man, it's like that with almost any other V8, ls1, lt1, LS2, all of them (I realize there are wayyy more than that) respond to mods a helluva lot better than 2 valves do. Like you said the problem I have with the trickflow top end kit is it pushes the top of the powerband up to 7k RPM.
@smallfry0764 A stock bottom end won't hold that, just like you said. That's the key. BUT, with a solid bottom end, a trick flow top end kit, and a procharger, all of that is solved. LOL.

In 1999 the (optional) F150 5.4 2v made 260hp and 350lbs of tq. In comparison of the 5.3 vortech was 270hp 315tq. Now the V-tech did increase later, but this was just to illustrate. i wouldn't really call it a flaw.. You have to remember affordability is a factor.

Not that I am trying to shoot everything down that you are saying, I just have a ton of money into a 2 valve that I wish I didn't. Things for these cars aren't cheap, I know because I am picking up my car tomorrow and just had a $3k transmission built, and that doesn't include the Lenco valve body or the FTI torque converter. Heads are more expensive than the mustangs competition, and takes one more

cam than it's fellow competitors. Sorry, but I just think ford threw these cars together without much inginuity. Don't forget you can't run anything above 108 LSA on the cams because of PTV clearance issues. Pistons will meet your valves with a decent cam, if they are not degreed perfectly. Which doesn't happen often. I just don't think there's much that anyone can say to change my mind. I have done my research on these cars.......

I am sure they will outrun gramma's station wagon or maybe a 5000lbs truck? 13.8 is faster than my LT1 so atleast your 281 is doing better than my 350 right? Its why I am selling my LT1 and buying a Cobra.

@SuRihtanil Right on. But let's be real tea SuRihtanil, Cobra's are way different than 2 valves. The reason I rag on 2 valves so much is the poor design, the small cylinder bores, the crappy head flow, and let's not forget the plastic intake!!!! (yes I know ls1's have them too). Your Lt1 with the LT4 hotkit would smoke the sh!t out of my 2 valve, they just respond to mods very well, much like the ls1. You take the money you'd spend on a Cobra, and put it into that LT1, you'd beat most mildly

@smallfry0764 Yeah, but you can't beat the sound of a V4 4.6 Cobra with Bassani exhaust. My LT1 needs a overhaul and interior replacement parts, it just seeing its demise. I bought it on a whim, and don't like it anymore. I still like 2V mustangs personally, I would own a 03 GT, but if I did I would buy a kenne bell for it. I haven't raced a 99-04 GT yet, but my best friend has raced a couple in his Z28 LT1 and he beat a stock 00 GT. However he got his ass kicked by a Kenne Bell GT. LOL

@smallfry0764 Well, it's not really a crappy design. You see it as that way because it doesn't compare up to the 5.7. A H/C/I 5.4 2v isn't a pushover. The main problem would be headflow with 2 v engines. A pair of trick flow heads will fix that, but hey push power into a higher band. getting a bottom end is key.. regardless of what you get... I'm just going to build my motor piece by piece...

@Texarmageddon You are right somewhat, not trying to be a d!ckhead, but if the heads don't flow right, and they come from the factory like that, then wouldn't that be a design flaw? I think it would. Just saying man, it's like that with almost any other V8, ls1, lt1, LS2, all of them (I realize there are wayyy more than that) respond to mods a helluva lot better than 2 valves do. Like you said the problem I have with the trickflow top end kit is it pushes the top of the powerband up to 7k RPM.

@smallfry0764 A stock bottom end won't hold that, just like you said. That's the key. BUT, with a solid bottom end, a trick flow top end kit, and a procharger, all of that is solved. LOL.

@smallfry0764 yet, the question comes to whether are not they were designed better or are they relying on pure displacement? i can't really compare engine sizes from a mustang to a truck, but I can compare two truck engines. In 1999 the (optional) F150 5.4 2v made 260hp and 350lbs of tq. In comparison of the 5.3 vortech was 270hp 315tq. Now the V-tech did increase later, but this was just to illustrate. i wouldn't really call it a flaw.. You have to remember affordability is a factor.

@Texarmageddon Well coming from a fellow 2 valve owner, I wouldn't say affordability is a factor. Not that I am trying to shoot everything down that you are saying, I just have a ton of money into a 2 valve that I wish I didn't. Things for these cars aren't cheap, I know because I am picking up my car tomorrow and just had a $3k transmission built, and that doesn't include the Lenco valve body or the FTI torque converter. Heads are more expensive than the mustangs competition, and takes one more

cam than it's fellow competitors. Sorry, but I just think ford threw these cars together without much inginuity. Don't forget you can't run anything above 108 LSA on the cams because of PTV clearance issues. Pistons will meet your valves with a decent cam, if they are not degreed perfectly. Which doesn't happen often. I just don't think there's much that anyone can say to change my mind. I have done my research on these cars.......

My dad has a 97f150 with full bolt ons also, built tranny, built rear end, headers, exhaust, superchip, cold air, electric fans, intake, it doesn't run bad at all. I wish he would trade me motors. Lol.
