I have put a month ago three peices of his recording: "Am Rhein..", "Angiolin dal biondo crin" and "Comment disaient ils". The Steingraeber piano sounds so different from the nowdays Steinway (I hope you have good sound card...)
Marvelous (and difficult !) piece. This interpretation has the right style (better than Leslie Howard's recording). The best recording of this piece is from pianist Thomas Hitzlberger who record it on a Steingraeber piano of 1873 which Liszt had until the end of his life.
Dear Mpakos 18473, Only now I read your reaction on my video. I'm very interested in Thomas Hitzlberger's playing. Is it possible for you to put something on Youtube ?
I'm not a pianist but I think your interpretation is inspired. The recording of Leslie Howard to all these pieces are indifferent but recently was the only one he recorded these...
I have two CDs with him from the Cybele company and he plays Liszt really excellent. The one is on Liszt song transcriptions for solo piano - far better than Leslie Howard's recording...
I dont think the person who posted this is Rodolphe Serne lol, but im also wondering what song it is? Im guessing its one of liszts otherwise he'd be angry if were beethoven or someone else lol.
You realise he preactically worshipped Beethoven? Also, I imagine if he were listening, he would prefer a change from the liszt that countless tourist's have played.
The piano is a "Chickering & Sons/à F. Liszt"(especially built for Liszt,1879,Serial no: [50.080][AAA-c5]L 2m60,W 150 cm,3 pedals(middle 1 = "a divided damper-lever for increasing volume of treble notes" Where I played this piano was the Recital Room, adjoining Liszt's flat! The Standart on top of the instrument is made of siver, this was a present of Liszt's pupils(all the names are carved in it
Incredible pianist with an incredible piano.

Chickering is full power piano. Jonas Chickering was a great craftsmamship at his days. Very well played and record Rodolphe !

Ah that piano must be beautiful to play. Playing it must give you chills that Liszt played those same keys.
Ah he is watching down and is proud of his work, and of your playing!

this is all in Liszt's home on Andrassy Utca,
Budapest, which makes this even more interesting.

So interesting to hear this recording........
I have viewed this piano in Budapest and also have a recording of Jeno Jando playing it.
Although I love the 'old piano' sound in the treble, this wouldn't have been the original tone when it was newer. I can sympathise why
it is hard to play..........the lack of sustain in the treble coupled with the lid being closed.........was it a light touch or heavy?
Again thanks for this excellent video.
