Thanks for a straight needle hat! # of stitches depends on yarn and needle size and head size and then gauge... Decreasing is where you pick up more than one stitch and knit them together as you would one stitch, usually 2 or 3 until you end the hat. That's what I am looking for, trying to figure out when to end it. I'm just going to keep going because I can fold it at the bottom if too long.
@tinythaze Sorry, I lost this work. Will probably start over and do a part 2 soon. (I am very busy right now though so it'll be a sec) But until then, you can look up how to decrease on the internet, it's very easy...
@tinythaze well from experience you're knitting waaaay to many stitches, I would probably cast on about 45 -50 stitches useing a regular yarn, also when useing straight needle you have to do tedious work to bind the ends together to make the hat its best to make one with earcovers or a dread tam that way the seams dont even show up
@tinafinayo hello faceless hater. If you listened you'd have realized I was talking about starting a unique project and planning to complete it at a later date. That's definitely something to say. How about you upload a vid (of yourself!) and then I can tell you if you said something useful or not? I'm kinda peeved right now about other issues. The way in which you said WHAT you said was kinda funny though now that I think about it... Whatever, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
well it dosent actually show you how to knit a hat , only how to do a few lines and moan about not having money to finish it , it my opinion you shouldnt have started it in the first place .

You're not supposed to sew. Knitting is all about weaving. If you're going to knit a hat with straight needles, you need three double pointed needles. You have to connect your stitches after knitting the first row. You did this wrong, just go buy a circular needle from Jo-Anne's for 5 bucks.
Oh okay, well I was just letting you know that you can also knit with straight needles, that you don't necessarily need circular needles. It's just harder :]
You can knit a beanie with two needles its an easier beanie to knit, you just join the shorter ends together, and close off one end with a gathering stitch and you can add a simple pompom and it look great. My children Have beanies like this and they have lasted very well.
@meaniemae you can sew and weave with knitting needles. not everyone has to do it correctly. i have straight knitting needles and after followitn the instructions i made a beautiful hat
Cool! Yeah, they have a lot of vids on Youtube about how to knit from the most basic to more advanced stuff. But you should look at this lady KnittingTipsByJudy is her name. I sub to her and her vids are good. I find she explains some things better than other people.

How did your hat turn out? All I have are straight needles and I would like to know if it came out alright before I even try.
