we played this peice at all district this years and it's not too bad for bass once you get a good fingering pattern. we practiced it around 135 bpm but only performed around 130

it's not that hard of a song. it's just fast. if it were at a non-crazy tempo it would be much easier. but it's the tempo that makes it hard more than anything. we're playing it at 152. carazy!

It doesn't matter what grade a person is in when they play this song, anybody could do it if they tried. It's only skill that matters; and i must add its a pretty difficult song.

holy crap im an 8th grader in a youth orchestra full of high school ppl, and the first time i sightread this i was just like.....OOh this is a nice, slow 8th note piece. but i forgot to look at the tempo lol. and then the conductor starts, everyone just BLASTS Off im like WHAT?! and its like SUPER FAST im like AHHHHHH!

im playing this in the CYSO (Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra, and we are doing an amazing job with this piece! We sound awesome! And we are taking it at 135 bpm! its awesome!

you should check out the Northport High School symphony orchestra playing this, they slow it down a little, but its a really good version. (Search "Russlan and Ludmilla by Glinka" word for word, and its like the 3rd one in.

The original composition or a watered-down version? We just sight read this piece for a concert we will be doing later this spring, and I have a recording of the Boston Brass playing this piece, and I am EXTREMELY skeptical that a 7th grade ensemble could be handed a non-watered down version of this work and call it easy. I can see a top high school orchestra attempting this piece and the top players in such a group calling it "not too tough", but 7th grade? Yeah, right.

I just read through some of the other comments. This is tempo it's SUPPOSED to be played at -- our part says "presto" tempo, and on my Boston Brass recording they also play it at this tempo. Playing this work at a watered-down tempo can also make it seem easier than it really is.

my highschool is also playing this exact arrangement. we are playing it a hair slower but stillpretty darn fast. by the time our concert comes we should be at about this speed but a little bit slower. XD;;
