Saint Paul didn't go around holding a cross, he preached the cross: the Lord Jesus Christ crucified for our sins, and risen again. Believing that gospel is how people get saved ... it is not by spending a year in a monastery praying and praying and praying. That's paganism:

"But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking." Matthew 6:7.

Jesus' all night in prayer was for a rare special event, not a constant practice. Paul explained, "continuing instant in prayer" (Rom. 12:12). Live the life and pray to God instantly as needs arise (Nehemiah 2:4-5). But don't do like the foolish Orthodox monks who sit around saying vain repetitions! That is pagan, as the Lord Jesus said: "But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking." Mt. 6:7.

The man didn't mention the Lord Jesus Christ one single time. Whoever put the video up with all the pictures of Jesus Christ has a lot more sense than this "pope" (Matthew 23:9; 1 Timothy 2:5).

Nobody can come to God except by JESUS CHRIST (read 1 Timothy 2:5) because Jesus paid for our sins at the cross. This confused old man (not a "holiness" nor a "pope") preaches religious junk that won't save anybody. Pray and repent and go to hell. Pray, fast, repent, do good deeds and stop sinning --- and go directly to hell. Cry night and day for God for 50 years straight and then go to hell. Nobody comes to God except by Jesus Christ's gift of salvation when he died for our sins.

Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.... the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us" (John 1:1,14) and he is the mediator, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;" (1 Tim 2:5).

Most Orthodox are just culturally religious people who have never experienced the new birth because their unsaved "priests" never told them about it.

You are making leaps of logic here that are pretty wild. I don't see why you quoted this verse. From reading your posts, it seems like you are fond of knowing a lot of scripture verses, but not too fond of applying them correctly.

Please tell me one thing about Shenouda's sermon (the one above, about prayer to God and never mentioning Jesus Christ) would offend a Moslem. The pictures of Jesus might offend them, but not the words. They have their "Allah" and they pray a lot too.

Shenouda isn't perfect, don't worship him. Respect the Lord Jesus Christ and don't compromise the gospel. Repent.

Copts filled their cathedrals with vain images that God hates (1 Cor 10:14), and now the Bible prophesy is come to pass:

... "And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them," Jeremiah 43:12-13.

Your church is dead wood and needs a revival. You need to dump the religious garbage and get saved. Back to the Bible!

actually I am orthodox and I think the so called "protestant" pictures invoke more emotion than the boring 2 dimensional pictures (icons) at church. art in every region of the world evolved, medieval art gave way to Renaissance art, which gave way to baroque. it evolved everywhere except in orthodoxy. No change for the sake of no change is sometimes foolish.

@007Yup they want to keep the tradition of the byzantine icon style, it won't change, they are painted like that for a reason, they're are not supposed to smitten anybody or make people view the icons differently than what they are intended to be viewed as. I also like other christian paintings.

@007Yup If you are Orthodox, you should know that the seat of the emotions is in the bowels (according to my priest, and other articles I've read). That's why they don't use emotional images. Emotions are fleeting, are with you one moment, then they fade away.
