  • I think this is the best rap song ever. Even beats some of my favourite rapper Big Pun.

  • Why can't ya`ll just comment abot the song, stop hating or loving on other artists, they've got videos to comment on ya know?

  • @NomadMusik Wrong sir. Jay-Z was bumping to Illmatic long before his debut and was a big admirer of Nas back then before they got into a beef.

And I'd just like to say that I like Common more in the 90s than now, but he isn't too bad in this decade compared to Jay-Z (huge ass sellout). And Eminem is starting to sell out, though not completely. You just have to cop Recovery to realize that.

Rakim, Nas, Common, and Lupe Fiasco are the best MCs in the game right now. Props to J. Cole, Wale, an

  • @A094H2 How can that even be possible? Illmatic was released 1994 and Jay Z was already featured in songs before that with Jaz-O in the very late 80's and early 90's.

  • @RapperMaximum ...So? This doesn't change my statement.

  • @A094H2 Rakim never put out anything good since the 90s lol

  • @mitchchalifoux Point taken haha.

  • @A094H2

Lupe fiasco- was lasers not radio friendly?

  • @tomdabomb999 I meant FnL and The Cool, plus his mixtapes. Lasers was crap. FnL 2 looks promising, from the looks of Go To Sleep and the intro.

  • @A094H2

Fair enough, the other two albums were amazing, I'm just annoyed at Lupe for Lasers, I'm hoping FnL 2 is going to be back to the old Lupe!

  • @tomdabomb999 Yeah, Atlantic was originally was supposed to be something like Enemy of the State, but Atlantic forced him to make it mainstream. All Black Everything was genius, though, and Till I Get There was pretty good also.

  • this is some real ass shit especially the third verse...

  • kanye west is a dirty fruad>and a prick nuff said

  • I dont like Common either now... I just came here for the song cause its a fucking classic. And yes, they are sellouts.Maybe you'll understand why someday..

  • @TheCasuals13 So wouldnt that make Common a sellout too? He made a song with The Jonas Brothers. Neither artists are sellouts. Artists cant keep comin out with the exact same material because people will get bored and want something new. Artists have to expand. They don't make music for you, they make it for everybody.

  • Talk about bringing back some memories.

I remember seeing the video for this when it first came out.

  • even common is losing their away :( and in songs like "universal mind control" he says he don't care :(

    ...

fuck this new hip hop like lil gayne nikki menaje...fuck off, i want more music like this...this song is perfect

  • Fuck modern technology. Simple beats and smooth lyrics, that's all we need.

  • Eminem is a sellout...(same as snoop dogg)...i dont care how good he used to be.We are talking about a guy who makes songs with lil wayne, bruno mars, and nicki minaj...end of story for me

  • @TheCasuals13 That doesn't make him a sell out. If that makes him a sell out, that makes nearly every rapper in the game are sellouts. Ludacris (Last Of A Dying Breed, My Chick Bad), Nas (My Generation), Jay-Z (Mr. Carter), Game (My Life (which, BTW, was an amazing song.), RED Nation, Martians vs. Goblins), Andre 3000 (The Real Her), Fabolous (Thats Not Love Remix), and some others.

  • @NomadMusik yo all of them MCS you just mentioned are sell outs except for nas and dre

  • @NomadMusik

Except for Nas, all these rappers you just mentioned are new-school garbage...

Check out: Brother Ali, MF DOOM, Slug, Cyne, Substantial etc. for REAL HIP HOP lyricists...

  • @TheCasuals13 Jay-Z has had a long career than Nas. Check Jaz - Hawaiian Ocean. Just pointing that out.

And I will listen to those rappers soon.

  • @TheCasuals13 Andre 3K? Jay-Z? Garbage? Somebody need to listen to Stankonia and Reasonable Doubt. Shit, even Ludacris is good when he wants to be.

  • @TheCasuals13 everywhere I go i see eminem isnt he the best or what :D this is pure madness

  • @TheCasuals13 good riddance

  • @TheCasuals13 Working with other mainstream artists doesn't make you a sellout, it's okay if you don't like the music that's fine but Eminem can't be a sell out if he's making music that has substance and hes rapping about things he chooses to rap about without any second person telling him not to. He doesn't make music for the sake of money or sales like the true sellouts do.

  • @TheCasuals13 Bruno mars is good in my book lil wayne and his clan can swallow their own load though lol

  • I'm all for people having a right to an opinion, so if you like it, praise it, if not, fair enough... However disrespecting each other is NOT the way forward. It's all about love over heeeeeyuuuuuuuuuuuuh!!!

  • I'm all for people having a right to an opinion, so if you like it, praise it, if not, fair enough... However disrespecting each other is NOT the way forward. It's all about <3 over heeeeeyuuuuuuuuuuuuh!!!

  • i made a remix to this song. check it out on my page. OOOOOKKKAAAAYYYY

  • @Spectra1Beats murs and 9th wonder flipped the beat

  • best rap song. EVER

  • I met THIS girl wen I was 10 yrs old!!!

  • Unfortunately , this isn't life & death (even if its ABOUT life & Death) its "art" , so If some corporation offered me 10 million to release a shitty peice of entertainment? SIGN ME UP. I'll feel bad all the way to the bank.

  • People think that all of today's music sucks but these artists are still around most of them are underground. So not all today's music sucks it just means that the corporations that have all of the money are saying that this all that they are going to promote...what you should be mad at is the people that are willing to bend to the corporations and sing and promote what they want because they want to have millions...but that means they have no integrity!

  • for my real hip-hop lovers

  • I don't like the way people are saying rap is dead and that rubbish on this song, yes hip hop died for a period but its back, its just underground. Emcee's like Blu, Jay Electronica, J. Cole, Big K.R.I.T. and Kendrick Lamar are still keeping the game true. Surely American's would know them, i'm from Australia and i know them. plus the old schoolers are still doing there thing.

  • Now this is what i call music! Real Hip hop!!!!!

  • Amazing song....incredible vibe.....growing up in laguna didnt get to experience "true"hard core wrap but hell thos reggae boys can throw some shit down. I love the lyrics though they did hit home in areas i felt hope and love all the way through it. and....does it say that u r playing at the coach house? when and cost and let me know.....i live in san clemente and would love to see it at one of my favorite venues....

  • I hate rap/hip hop and pop today. All sucks major ass. This is the only exception

  • I get it! Muisc today sucks. How about you stop commenting about it and do something about. Gosh! Instead of saying that all music today sucks, how about you be more specific. Not all artists that are currently active suck!

  • @tgreggy Yep. All of them do.

  • damn, this iss beautiful.

fuckk that shit we have noww, real talk

  • I remember when I first heard this song....dang I miss rap....I can barely listen to it now....this song reminds me of how rap should be.....

  • this is a song that makes you pround to be a hip-hop fan.

  • @niccilomachiaveli proud. fuck its late. 2:04 to be exact.

  • 15 people got dissed by H.E.R.!!!

  • This song makes a lot more sense now than it did back then.

  • damn man, why couldn't i live through that time period? thank goodness common still goin tho, at least i've gotten to know REAL muzik today cuz of ppl like him. u used to love her common, but i still love her, cuz of U. =) <3

  • I knew of Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash but really they are the only rappers from back in the day that I had heard. I listen mostly to Tupac, Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Nas, and Salt n Pepa. Adding this to the playlist. This is introducing me to a whole new world. Thank you for posting this.

  • genius

  • kanye west copied this shit

  • @SuperXecutioner Like 3 lines...

  • Im so bored of people whininig about Soulja Boy and Lil Wayne on every rap video on youtube. Hey at least they brought the fun back to the culture and it's not like anyone forces you to listen to their songs? This song's awesome by the way!

  • This goo hard

  • i cant belive "we takin over" has 10 million views n this is got 72k??? wtf is wrong with this picture????

  • WHO COMM SYS IS TALKIN BOUT IS HIP HOP

  • The sad truth about why real hip hop never goes on the radio is because the big record labels are all owned by white business men that want money. They don't want change and they don't want progress. They want the black man to be though of as an idiot. There are millions of black men that aren't idiots and they don't get airtime. Lupe fiasco, Black Thought, Blackalicious, Mf Doom, Common, Ric Marciano, Joe Budden, Big Boi, Raekwon, Method Man, Ghostface Killah, RZA. They're all out making music.

  • its USED man, not use

  • 25 to life= modern day version of this song

  • @44standaman Big difference. Common still loves Hip-Hop. Eminem says "fuck hip-hop" in that song (cuz apparently he'd rather work with sellouts like pink and rihanna)

  • @44standaman noooooo. That song is nothing like this one unless this song is about hip hop...

  • @absherful it is about hiphop, but i see what you guys are talking bout. Im just saying, i know theres a big difference

  • @44standaman Actually im really sorry i feel stupid right after i wrote that i heard him say the girl was hip hop. soo im sorry bro thanks for not being a dick lik me haha. and yeah your right. but the basiss is the same haha

  • apparently 15 people have no clue in what REAL hip-hop is

  • Tune

  • i got 2 copies of this album, thats how much i love it

  • Real hip hop

  • kanye west homecoming uses that start

  • Someone uses the start of this song, but I can't remember who? ahh someone help

  • @constantnoise100 KRS-One?

  • @constantnoise100 Homecoming - Kanye West

  • "stop fucking up the shit y'all"

  • I love this song, but so many people have used the concept now that it's unreal this is the original and best although eminem's 25 to life was dope but i dont think that this track is the greatest hip hop song of all time

  • One of the best. But the greatest? come on

  • only song i ever listened to that told a story with an ending that made me curse out loud.

  • 12 dislikes must be gay and "used to love H.I.M." lol

  • everyone should get a grip n buy the album and sort hiphop out

  • This is defintely my choice for greatest pure HipHop song of all time! It was waaayyy ahead of it's time and describes everything that was going to happen to hiphop music. Foresight!

  • I Use To Love H.E.R too. I MISS YOU (Real) HIP HOP. :/ We Need The Old Her Back And Show This People What REAL Rap Is REALLY About. -Eminem -Nas -THE OLD Jay-z -Tupac -Biggie -Ice Cube -THE OLD SNOOP DOGG -Dr.Dre -LL Cool J -Wu-Tang Clan -Rakim -Eazy E AND SO MANY MORE. Also, WTF IS UP WITH THIS WEIRD ASS GROUPS?? Cash Money Heros and Shit. WE NEED GROUPS LIKE NWA AND SHIT. -Love, Real Fans Of Hip Hop. <3
  • @yahsyi -tribe, leaders of the new school ( so whats the scenario?!!), pete rock, black moon, smif n wesson, EPMD, redman-keith murray- lord finnesse, OC, diamond d, showbiz n ag, ditc, brand puba, sadat x, brand nubian, mic geronimo, das fx, mad lion, krs, bdp crew, big pun, mop, kool g rap, large professor, main source, black sheep, pharcyde, naughty by nature, funk master flex, ron g, doo wop, dj clue, tony touch, red alert, mob deep, nice n smooth, de la soul, big daddy kane, jeru, slick ric

  • @yahsyi eminem aint true hip hop

  • @fatalpunkk Shut up dude. Em is hip hop, just like all the rappers he listed.

  • @musiclover01ization hes a studio sell out

  • @fatalpunkk eminem... only the most lyrically innovative artist of his time. listen to marshall mathers LP, ill put that against any hip hop album you ignoramus.

  • @trynabcool

Lyrically, he was good back then. However, pretty much any artist signed to Def Jux, especially Cannibal Ox could have smoked him on the mic.

  • This track is pretty solid with some of the best lyrics and ideas in any hip hop song but not the greatest. Gotta give that title to biggs

  • Greatest hip hop track ever? Maybe, it's definitely right up there as a contender.

  • Nothing like a true hip hop song to bring out the hatred for Lil' Wayne, I love it.

  • Eazy and Tupac = The're the westcoast, today it ain't shit (except game maybe)

Even though i love those 2 i feel every fucking line in this song, because without them it wouldn't have really mathered.

I hate puffy and Tupac over biggie anyday, but it's for real mc's that i love the east coast

  • @johnymorez

you forgot People Under the Stairs, they're west coast and they're amazing.

  • i'm amazed

  • Nas>Common>everyone else... period.

  • number one hip hope song of all time

  • just recently bought the ressurection vinyl... absolutely epic

  • classic. what more is there to say?

  • This is an amazing song. I love how this whole thing is a metaphor for hip hop. Truely brilliant..

  • Hip pop, what more can you ask for.

  • Damn i listen to led zeppelin, the beatles,... etc... and i compared them to today's music and since i never heard this type of hip hop/rap songs i thought rap and hip hop is bullshit, except for a few rappers, but after hearing this i just find out the today's music just sucks period rap or rock. Great piece of art.

  • @RToor34 yo check out Big L, Big Pun, Nas, Pete Rock & CL, NWA, Ice Cube, 2pac, Biggie, and The Pharcyde for starts

  • @RToor34 Such bullshit. Just because it's not handed to you doesn't mean it isn't out there.

  • @RToor34 Yeah, i def agree, im usually listening to death metal and black metal these days, but sometimes i get lucky and find a masterpiece like this.

  • @RToor34 And there we have it, ladies and gentlemen. A true music fan.

  • @RToor34 truth

  • @RToor34 Definitely agree. It's nice to find new discoveries in music. It definitely isn't the same today.

  • @RToor34 There's more music than just Rap and Rock, Asshole. typical generalizing top comment, which is also why its a top comment, it attracts the general public without strong opinions of their own, so dont feel too proud about it.

Just because your limited brain hinders you from finding good music does certainly not mean it does not exist.

Basically just calling you a dumbass (for the likely case you didnt understand the rest)

  • damn. beautiful

  • ^tear^ makes me wanna cry....so beautiful

  • this one is the 'one' .. :)

  • tha best rap track ever

  • he did diss the west coast tho....

  • if you guys like emotional hip hop songs that have a great rhythm and an extremely deep meaning listen to;

you never know - immortal technique

    your never over - eminem

    same story - vinnie paz

  • man... i get it now... i understand... this is the greatest hip-hop song of all time!

  • This is one of the most influential anthems in hip hop.

  • to say that this song is a universal anthem would be an understatement

  • I can't believe I have never heard this...

  • This is not only one of the greatest hip hop songs ever but one of the best songs ever in any genre of music.

  • Roll up and listen :)

  • @ali03026679 ill match

  • spred this out put on facebook twiiter everywhere should have more hits the best ever

  • best hip hop song of all time.of all time.

this is just a masterpiece...you gotta understand the concept of this song.

back in the day everything in hip hop was made with the soul.but with the concept of drugs.sex.alcohol.money.the soul for hip hop just...dissapeared. nowadays isn't easy find someone who make it for hip hop.and not for the paper.

i don't used to love her.i still love hip hop.it's just...isn't the same.

  • i wondered why homecoming by kw wasnt praised .... now i know.... he sorta copied this song...lol

  • Best song ever

  • /i agrree man, this is one of the most important hip hop songs known to man, why anyone would not view this i doont know

  • This fool talkin about west coast hip hop bringing down hip hop but the west coast is more influential and legendary than this chi town clown and his hippy rap!

  • @METALSUCKS4LIFE hahaha nuff said :p

  • @METALSUCKS4LIFE you will die stupid as you are now. your west coast hip hop is fake, this is the thing, the true sound of hip hop.

  • @METALSUCKS4LIFE you don't know a thing about hip hop.

  • @nemsy94 but west coast hip hop is ONE MILLION times better than what we have now. so in relative terms west coast hip hop isnt that bad at all.

  • @nemsy94 I know plenty of hip hop homey! i respect the realist like public enemy, nwa, wu-tang, 2pac, krs 1, bone thugs, and many more! Common aint nothin but a bitch who cried about the west coast changing hip hop, when the west made hip hop more well known in the 90s than it did in the 80s! this fool reminds me of another clown named tim dog or tim dick that said fuck compton coz nwa was being real and making mothafuckas like tim dick look worthless!

  • imo

  • the greatest hip hop song ever

  • The only reason i looked this song up wuz cuz i saw it on a comment for the song Yesterday by Atmosphere. Its a good song but Yesterday by Atmosphere nd Never Falling Down by Living Legends are better

  • i don't know what they call this, but its much better then " hip hop"

  • I like this, but do you guys genuinly prefer this to "The Light".

Everyone's sayin its the best hip hop song...I could consider it if The Light didnt exsist.

  • common is a great

  • Lil Wayne: Drop The World (2010): 11,000,000 views.

Common Sense: I Used to Love H.E.R.: 24,346 views.

    Da fuck?

  • I never really liked rap or hip hop but this is pretty cool

  • The song uses an extended metaphor, using a woman to represent hip hop music. The acronym "H.E.R" means "Hearing every rhyme, therefore stating "I Used to Love Hearing Every Rhyme and also Hip Hop in its Essence is Real."

  • its like dance with the devil by immortal technique. its not talking bout a actual event. its a big metaphore and what everyones doin to hip hop.

  • 19000 views on one of the most important hip hop tracks of ALL TIME, yet lil wayne and soulja boy got millions? shit is backwards man

  • @abibas110 true brah, im only 16 and i reaalized that only a few of us like real music

  • @abibas110 we're in the most fucked up generation man... where is woodstock? where are these sick tracks?...

  • @abibas110 Yh they are destroying hip/hop. They are talentless and get payed millions.

  • @abibas110 justin biever gets billions ?!?!?!?! what more can i say ???

  • @TheAzlyrics why bring up beiber in a hip hop song? he aint even hip hop, he's a pop star, frontin like he killed Hip hop, i dont like beiber either but damn keep his name off hip hop videos, he has nothing to do with hip hop

  • does anyone know what they are saying in the last 10 seconds of the song ( the coversation btw the guy and the girl)???

  • during the last 10 seconds of the song, does anyone know what are they saying in the convo??

  • Its not about a girl. Its about HIP HOP

  • Its not about a girl obviously. Its all about HIP HOP

  • it don't get no better than this!

  • @DancingFashionPolice yes you do biggie is in another dimension

  • This song is dope.

    Common is an excellent lyricist.

  • its all about the classics

  • This is soo true in every way. When you listen to lyrics then and now you notice this song means soo much and how truly the hip-hop community is dead (almost).

  • i always loved this song but im high right now and after listening to this song again this song really hit me hard. i feal like tearing right now. what the fuck happened to hip hop?!

  • @DSI090 blame lil wayne and that lot

  • lyrics of this song are very good, but i dont think this is best song ever... pac has much deeper songs...

  • this song is def my #2 of all-time (I got the Message by Flash and the five as #1), but the song that he sampled is also fantastic (george benson "the changing world")

  • dumb rap scrubs dont understand the real hiphop they are shitting on; news at 11

  • Honestly.

If you guys understood what the song REALLY meant.

Yo would probably like it more.

  • Immortal Technique owns the top hip hop songs in my oppinion.

  • this is best hip hop track ever whoever doubts u not a real hip hop head period

  • @carolinadredlock wrong any of biggies tunes better fact

  • @carolinadredlock i agree that this is one of the greatest hip hop tracks of all time, but its pretty damn immature of you to think that anyone who doesnt think so isnt a real hip hop head, i myself have been into hip hop for over 10 years and dont personally think this is the greatest hip hop song, its still great but everyone has opinions and not thinking this is the best song still makes you a real hip hop fan if you know your real hip hop.

  • @BombSourDisel exactly man u cant blame lil wayne for being mainstream he is in hip-hop the same reason common is wayne gets more views cause he is hated on.

  • @carolinadredlock i wouldnt say the best but its definitely the most consciouses because california has no business making hip hop music

  • @carolinadredlock just because About .com says so?! HA! It's good, not the best.
