  • Pure Genius this song oozes life. Words cant describe what the dans music can create.Proof that music is such a higher art form than mere speech. My fav song of all time.

  • Drums by Porcaro. Nuff said.

  • ‘You walked in and my life began again’ Nice

  • thanks for this video and audio.

  • Katy tried I was halfway crucified I was on the other side Of no tomorrow You walked in And my life began again Just when I'd spent the last piaster I could borrow All night long We would sing that stupid song And every word we sang I knew was true
  • Definately the greatest band in the seventies, thank you!

  • 1 person is still waiting for the taste...

  • tremendous music from two of the greatest composers

  • this song would smooth out the frustrations and craziness after a friday night of clubbing and shenanigans -back in the day (s) - 1973- 1978

  • LOVIN' me some Jeff Porcaro on this tune. Groove for days....

  • @RaincloudmusicTFS6 ...and that Phil Woods sax solo....ear candy,...;)

  • dr wu set by leg when i got hit by a car

  • This is what fusion always was supposed to be.

  • I had a dream last night, and the soundtrack to it was this album. cool dream.

  • Drug related song are always good

  • From the first time that I heard Steely Dan in the 70's I have always enjoyed their music. They are one of the best groups ever. Bit of trivia; who played drums for these guys (Fagan & Becker) while they were in college? None other than Saturday Nights Live's Chevy Chase. Cool.

  • @epvice Was that as Ultimate Spinach?

  • @Broadsidejohn : I think you're correct. I heard that rumor when I was younger (1980's) and I later read it on Wikipedia. I think it's kind of interesting.

  • Can't buy a thrill may be the best album ever recorded but this is the best song.

  • @countdown2ecstasy Katy Lied and Pretzel Logic are right there, yes best song!

  • Anyone have insight on who Doctor Wu could have been? Pure fiction?

  • @jazz4asahel

The story I heard was that "Katy" is heroin and Dr. Wu was a doctor who treated addicts. Again, this is only one of many explanations of this song out there.

  • @Tuzotonic Dr Wu is a doctor who presumeably gives him "smack" on credit and as it turns out is also an addict himself. Walt was on the junk but I have no idea if Dr Wu has any equivalent in real life. Knowing of those 2 (Becker and Fagen), probably!

    Rikki Don't Lose That Number...

    Great songwriters and genius band...

  • *ROSE DARLING/DOCTOR WU(THE SONG THE TITLE COMES FROM)/EVERYONE'S GONE TO THE MOVIES..FAVES..

  • No discussion needed....one of their best....yeah, great sax, lyrics----beautiful song....

  • Steely Dan has such a hip sound! Thanks!

  • ispirazione e talento

  • superb.....thanks

  • What a great sound! Brings back memories.

  • whoa! awesome video. good sound HQ

  • the perfection, ladies and gentlemen!

  • A wonderful song, a wonderful album, a wonderful group. Just that.

  • Look up pure musician or killer songwriting in the dictionary. Lennon & McCartney Fagen & Becker Thank God music lasts inside of us forever.

  • I don't know what the 70's would be without Steely Dan

One of the better things of the 70s

  • Met one junkie, met them all....(is what this song is about).

Great band. Wrote songs from experience. Witht he best session players in the business. Mr Shorter does a great job....

  • @absolutelyfree1963

    Actually, that is Phil Woods.

  • @hklinker Oh. That explains why it sounds different! ;-P

I didn't read the line-up on the album.

  • @absolutelyfree1963

Understandable. I don't think they listed the credits.

  • @hklinker I didn't check my vinyl LP. They are probably on there. There was a great commentary by Walter and Donald (?) of how the engineer (Nichols) made the album and how they got the master cut by a then new computer-controlled lathe, which blew their minds because it seemed to have a mind of it's own. We miss out on so much with CDs today. I miss playing the LPs but not cleaning them!

What is your favourite SD track off Katy Lied?

  • @absolutelyfree1963 ..IT'S ON THE CD REISSUES ALSO..

THIS IS A HI-FI RECORDING. STEELY DAN USES A SPECIALLY CONSTRUCTED 24-CH TAPE RECORDER, A 36-INPUT COMPUTERIZED-MIXDOWN CONSOLE, AND SOME VERY EXPENSIVE GERMAN MICS. INDIVIDUAL MIC EQ IS FROWNED UPON. THE SOUND CREATED BY MUSICIANS & SINGERS IS REPRODUCED AS FAITHFULLY AS POSSIBLE, AND SPECIAL CARE IS TAKEN TO PRESERVE BANDWIDTH & TRANSIENT RESPONSE OF EACH PERFORMANCE. TRANSFER FROM MASTER TAPES TO MASTER LACQUERS IS DONE ON A NEUMANN VMS 70

  • @2020TYBO

"COMPUTERIZED LATHE EQUIPPED WITH A VARIABLE PITCH, VARIABLE DEPTH HELIUM COOLED CUTTING HEAD. THE COMPUTER LOGIC CIRCUITS OF THE VMS 70 WIDEN AND NARROW THE GROOVES ON THE DISC IN ACCORDANCE WITH ITS OWN BIZARRE ELECTRONIC MENTATION FOR REASONS KNOWN ONLY TO THE DESIGNERS; THIS ACCOUNTS FOR THE LOVELY LIGHT AND DARK PATTERNS THAT CAN BE SEEN ON THE SURFACE OF THE PRESSING. VINYLITE COMPOUND IS USED. FOR BEST RESULTS OBSERVE THE R.I.A.A. CURVE."

THAT WAS BEFORE THE PERSONNEL CREDITS

  • @2020TYBO Yeah that's the one. Bizarre electronics mentations...

Enjoyed the implied sarcasm in "for best results observe the RIAA curve."

(Do NOT play our vinyl on shit stereo gear!)

  • @absolutelyfree1963 ..LOL..

  • one of the few very best bands of all time.............

  • Thanks for the video. Love this song.

  • the best sax solo of the 70s?

  • @Frizinho this one and the badass solo Wayne Shorter played on Aja

  • @Frizinho Phil Woods - unbelievable player.

  • the perfection

  • Good Job on this video Bower.

  • @FmrCQB

    Thanks...
