@tjsbigidea Thats a great question. One of my favorite actors over the years. He was totally awesome in Homicide. I just found his website. Looks interesting. Check it out folks. yaphetkotto org
@tjsbigidea Yaphett Kotto = highly underrated talent. It's funny whenever they gtalk about good black actors how he never seems to come up when he was a bloody fantastic actor. Love that man's work!
Good to see it reminds us all of our roots as young black men in NYC in the 1970s hustling however we had to in order to get past 110th street. At least that's what I imagine.
I'm actually happy to say that I don't remember this series. In 1972, I was 11 years old. Oh, how I wish I could travel back in time ... I was probably watching the "Brady Bunch", "The Partridge Family" and the "Mod Squad" (featuring Julie, Link and "Pete") It took me a while to remember "Pete" ... probably cause he was the "white guy". "Julie" and "Link" were the main characters, if I remember correctly... Tell you the truth - I have a vague recognition of "Pete". Hey, it was the 70's.
I love the song. I need to the see the movie. I was not even born when the song and movie came out. But I love the music from this era.
It's much better than that "I busta' cap on yo mama," or "me and my 20 inch rims" shit, useless ghetto rap music that degrades women and promotes violence among our younger generation.
The artists of this era sang with more passion, meaning, and had raw talent for playing musical instruments as well. Thanks for uploading the video.
i love it. The version that's in the movie is great, but I definitely prefer this one. It's the best movie song ever, IMO--Bobby Womack was on FIRE when he recorded it. One hell of a great movie, too.
I believe, and I don't think I'm alone, that Bobby Womack could have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on the merit of just this song.
Anyway, "110th Street" is really one of my favourite "Blaxploitation" films, although when you look at it in retrospect, it seems to have aged better than a lot of the other classics. Incredible acting by Kotto and Quinn... captivating story and soundtrack. And rarely cliched or condescending,
I have the soundtrack and its HOTT!! Bobby womack is one of the most talented underated artist out there. its good hes starting to get some recognoition now.
Hello to you all. The best performance of "Across 110th Street" by polish singer ANIA DABROWSKA. sEARCH AT YOUTUBE : Ania Dąbrowska - Across 110th Street (Ania Movie)
Nah, if you look a bit closer you can see the right turn just shutting off. But you're right that the left does turn on....but probably from hitting the turn signal too hard.
That is one of my favorite songs and it actually seems to fit the opening better than the opening music in the original scene, excellent job serotta2.
@indieindy Bobby womack was from Cleveland, but the song was about Harlrm. he even says it 2:28-2:43 " The family on the other side of town, would catch hell without a ghetto around. In every city you will find the same thing going down. HARLEM is the capital of every ghetto town"
@serotta2 true that, i was disappointed as well. he still is an awesome director tho... alien, thlma&loise, gladiator, kingdom of heaven, blade runner,... can't beat that easily

Look around YouTube; I think you can find the whole film online in parts, so you can check it out. Of its "Blaxplotation" genre I'd say one of the better films of the period, along with SUPERFLY and TROUBLE MAN especially for the sound tracks
I actually first heard this in American Gangster, when I saw who sang it I looked it up here & that's how I found this. I love watching any film about 1970s New York & this looks like a trip.

@CTyankee4277 yes it is worth seeing and owning. i saw it at the movies when it came out. Anthoney Quinn is the racist cop investigating the big hiest. Antonio Fargas is one of he dudes he's looking for. It's " Blaxploitation" but more, also a crime drama and social commentary and the sound track fits the movie to a T. if you find out how to get a copy let me know; this is a film I always remembered fondly.
You know, there's so many great pics from this era, they all show that edgy, gritty side of NYC like late 60s early 70s (like French Connection, Taxi Driver, etc) and it looks like this fits that mold. I can't believe they don't show this on TV. Ebay, here I come. :)
Yeah, I kinda got that feeling myself - like its not quite blaxploitation but it's not quite Taxi Driver commentary either. Same gritty tone and whatnot, I'll def. be searchin for this on eBay. I'd watch it on TV if it were ever on - but if it were I'm sure they'd censor the shit outta this!
@CTyankee4277 : African american contribution to film industry is often ignored and overlooked. But if it were a "white" movie, it would have recieved the recognition.
You're right on all accounts! Except one; its not Riverside Drive (where I live). They start out in Central Park going up the East Drive (thats 5th Ave next to them going downtown from overhead) They hit the 110th Street Exit at the top of the Park, and get out into Harlem. Dig?
That's not Riverside Drive. That is the park drive in Central Park up around 90th street. The water is the central park reservoir and the buildings are 5th avenue. Easy way to tell is that Riverside Drive is a two way street and this is not.
Yeah it threw me too at first because it really looks similar in a couple of shots. Vanilla sky had a cool car scene on riverside drive but the continuity is all over the place. ;)
effectivement j' ai bien l 'impréssion que nous avons les memes gouts musicaux et cinématograpiques!!
