  • Great video! Having grown up in the South Bay area I can say that I have been to all of these theaters; only one missing in action is the Hawthorne 6. I also loved those little Redondo Beach Cinemas. I remember when "Four Weddings & A Funeral" played there, I went back three times in one week. And I saw "The Exorcist" for the first time on the big screen when it played at the Mann 9 during its 2000 re-release.

  • Wow! I have been looking for pics of the Hawthorne 6 for years! Do you know anybody with them?

  • how about Hawthorne 6? the theater at the redondo beach pier, Loyola ,Paradice the Centinela drive in , the rodium, etc

  • Multiplexes are all ugly anyway. PROPER cinemas are worthy of nostalgia, not a great big tin shed like this. Good riddance.

  • I went to every single one of these theaters growing up. The Mann Del Amo 9 I remember going to when I was 15 and was one of the only theaters in the whole country that showed Abel Ferrara's 1993 remake of Body Snatchers. I saw The Fifth Element at Cinema 1 in Redondo Beach. Saw Screamers in 1995 at UA Del Amo and Dee Snider's Strangeland. Saw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 at that drive-in. Saw tons of movies at the Galleria in Redondo as well.

  • @victormoreno7 thank you for your reply. I saw your discourse about movie posters and really, really liked it.

  • OMG THAT WAS SOOOOO COOL i didnt think any1 has any pix those these theaters, any change on old town mall torrance? remember that theater wow that was soooooooooooooooooooo long ago I saw TMNT 1 when it 1st came out

  • @LAPD27JK Yeah, I remember the old town mall. Me and a girlfriend used to go there all the time. I saw "an officer and a gentlemen" there. Do you remember the rides that used to be there? You can still see pics of the Old town mall (peopletron.blogspot.com/2006/08/old-towne-mall.html).

  • there used to be an AMC in DC Union Station. it was sold to someone else, and now its totally gone.

  • Thanks for sharing, i vagually remember Mann Theaters, but worked at General Cinema in Indianapolis until it became AMC, shortly after left. The building is now vacant as AMC moved down the street into one of citys Malls. As now added two more screens and much nicer, but nothing has taken its old building so sits vacant.

  • Would love to get some of your pictures to include at Cinematour -- been dying to see pics of the theatres at Del Amo for years. Also those old GCCs at Redondo make me happy. Sad that by the time I went back they were gone.

  • Well done! Seattle is another city that has lost many of it's theaters; among many, the Lewis & Clark, Southcenter, and of course the great UA Cinema 150, where all Seattlites first saw "Star Wars" in 1977.

  • @starwars21 Thank you. Do you have pics of these theaters that you mentioned?

    Cheers,

    d

  • @dhinis Actually the 'Cinematreasures' & 'Cinematour' websites have links & photos to them. Just put in Seattle for the location. Cinematreasures is great for looking up theaters and posting comments about them.

  • Thanks.

    I really appreciate that.

    Cheers!

  • I really like this! I remember going to some of those theaters. I work at AMC Century City 15 now.
