You could say that he could have done a better job of staying in shape even when he doesn't have a fight lined up but then again, the UFC initially told him he wouldn't be fighting again until April. These guys put their mind and body through a lot of stress and need some down time in between fights. The real question is why did Maia's cardio look as bad as a guy who had to cut over 30 pounds in a week in a half?
There's no excuse, he wasn't forced to fight, he was offered the fight, he can't make shitty weight excuses, next time dont take the fight if you weigh that much. his cardio sucks cock
That's a very stupid title. '' Questionable Cardio ''. Rousimar Palhares didn't want to take the fight in such a short notice. You go in there Ariel against a monster like Maia and get prepared in that amount of time
On 11 days notice this fight should've been a catchweight. I guess some body really is going to have to die before Dana and company wake up. No way this kid should've had to cut 32 pounds that soon.
@dvnmiller11 ha ha relax buddy. All Dana and Zuffa do is call the fighters manager and say hey we have an open slot does your fighter want to compete. They dont force the fighters to fight at gun point and the fighters are free to turn down fights. This guy chooses to compete in a division thats 32 pounds to small for him. If you dont like weight cutting blame the athletic commissions. Its something that they brought over from boxing as a requirement to make mma legal
@JohnnyBoyCali I am not against weight cutting at all, but having 10-11 days is too dangerous for that much weight. Everything Weidman was describing in the interview was severe dehydration and the beginnings of acute renal failure. Yes it falls on the athletic commissions but they could've made it a 195 catchweight, and that fight might not have sucked as much. Someone needs to step up and protect these fighters, if one of them dies during a cut it would be disastrous for Zuffa.
@dvnmiller11 Well I am against weight cutting because its stupid BUT the bottom line is nobody is forcing a wrestler, boxer, mma fighter, etc to cut weight. If they dont want to fight they dotn have to. Catch weights are stupid. There are weight divisions for a reason. Look at Anthony Johnson he fights at 170 and in his last fight couldn't make 185 so they had to fight at 205. What if a guy cant make 205 will they make a 210 catch weight. They should just weigh them an hour before the event.
@JohnnyBoyCali I agree catch weights are kindof stupid, but in this situation, it would have made for a better fight, and better television on national tv. Not two guys absolutely gassed after the first round. Something was up with Maia too, either he was sick or he stopped cutting weight because he thought he wouldn't have an opponent or something. But if guys weighed in an hour before fights the UFC would go out of business because it would be fights filled with gassed fighters like this one.
@dvnmiller11 Gassing isnt always about weight cutting. All the fighters on the main card looked gassed. Bisping and Chael were gasping for air too. Phil Davis looked like he was about to die from exhaustion and rashad never had the energy to finish the fight. It was really just a crappy card all round, but it was free.
He took the fight on 10 days notice. The guy did what he had to do to win. Period end of story! Great job Chris
