Bill is not that bad, Tim is just that good! no schooling going on just good singing. look at thir faces and all i see is the love of God and the love for each other
i have nothin against bill or any other bass for that matter but no one and i mean NO ONE has the depth and wall rattlin notes like Tim. belive me when u go to a concert and it sounds like hes gonna blow the speakers.... now thats AWESUM!! God bless
Gold City has been one of my favorite groups for years. This is a great song! I had never heard it before. Thanks for posting. They still sound great.
i've mentioned this on another video, but it amazes me how some groups will double parts just for a more full sound. Not that this is bad, but i've seen both (Tim and Bill) in this video, use a backup bass part. you might need headphones to hear it, but it's still incredible non the less!
I just miss the old days of Jay, Johnathan, Mark and Tim... if they could find another roof raisin tenor and good lead to back him up... I think they will be there again
All things considered, Bill Lawrence is a good bass singer. It's just because he took the place of the legendary Tim Riley that people tend to put him down. But if you think about it, whoever took Tim's place had some huge shoes to fill. I think that Bill actually sounds good. Granted, I still prefer Tim, but i would still have seen them in concert with Bill singing bass.
Bill's actually good, and he sounds great with the group here. Plus, you can tell he loves worshiping through singing bass and that he's having the time of his life on this song. I do think his lower notes sound a bit as if he were pushing his voice to get down that low. With guys like Richard Sterban, JD, Tim Riley, and George Younce, they sound so relaxed 99% of the time even with their lowest notes, they could probably sing them in their sleep. Still, Bill was a good replacement.
@BnCSGMusic you're right. upon further listening of this video I realize that he's actually pretty good. I was thinking for some reason he was frying the lower notes.
@codykokinda Bill may not have been as good as Tim, but he is atleast consistent in all of his notes. I he has a rich depth to his voice though. But it is awesome to see Tim back up there with Gold City. They did an awesome job at my home church. and all very down to earth guys.
please don't try to compare Bill Lawrence with Tim Riley, George Younce or Eric Bennett of Triumphant Quartet. These guys are bass SINGERS. Bill just knows how to growl.
I think that Bill Laurence is a great bass singer, but I really believe he just got schooled by Tim. The power behind Tim's voice is second to none. Great video.
I don't think that there is or was a finer bass than Tim RIley. Some will say J.D. or George were the best, but Tim's tone and smooth transitions can't be matched. Only one I think is close is Jeff Chapman (KingdomHeirs)
I know what you mean. The first time I heard "The Rock's Between The Hard Place And You" by the KingdomHeirs, I thought Tim Riley had come back to Gold City.
Did Jeff used to sing for Gold City? I didn't even know! And personally i think Chris is really amazing, but i have to admit I have heard little from him but what I've heard was great. But aaron gets the job done for now...
i like all the bass singers Gold City has had over the yrs. but until they record and NAIL Rainbow of Love, then Tim stays # 1 in my book

the only thing that spoiled the song was in the end, the first tenor (got very high)

I think Bill Lawrence is a pretty good bass. If Tim Riley handpicked him, I guess he agrees. Not sure why there are critical comments on Bill.

I just think it's funny. As bad of a bass as Bill Lawrence is, to have Tim Riley come up and school him at bass must have been a bit embarrassing.
codykokinda 1 year ago
@codykokinda Obviously Bill is good, if he was handpicked by Tim himself.

@saxfan1954 Bill is in full chest voice on the G here. He is clear and there is no growling at all. try listening to it once.

as i understand it....this is one of the reasons bill left, because Tim kept coming back for "special appearances"

it makes sense, it's almost as if they liked bill, but didn't want to get rid of tim's crowd..

You are so right in my opinion. Actually, I think that Tim and Jeff sound a lot alike. I still like Tim better, but Jeff is great too.

I think that Jeff Chapman is the second coming of Tim Riley. He has almost the same depth and resonence that Tim has.
