Metallica....BEST EVER...nothing left to say....im 39 yrs old and Ive watched them from DAY ONE!!!! A TRUE FAN loves ALL of Metallicas music....stop bein so one tracked.....they are slamin and versatile.....and James has power...not alot of finesse....but either way.....almost 30 yrs of old and new fans...those are the bands that NEVER die...Zep, The Dead, The Stones, Aerosmith,....not too many more than that stood 30yrs reigns at doin what they do....
3.26 to 3.58 James is singing justice/black album style. Makes me think he just hid that style of singing he had back then to preserve his voice. I thought he couldn't physically sing like that after 93'. There's no way nowadays he'd be able to put that rasp/power in without damaging or his voice cracking. Even his vocal range has lessened, he cant sing leper anymore
he had to change his singing style after 92' cause he blew his voice, after that he got voice lessons and we get new sound, to me i like the old growllll
@iron000maiden lol at you for being a troll, thats sad. It's also sad that you need to call me a fag so you can feel more sure about your masculinity. Grow up.
Wow! Great singing! Anyone can say whatever they want about James' voice after the black album but it was a hundred times better than the growling from the '80s. I think every metallica era has their own thing. In that time, instead of playing fast and heavy, it was more melodic and with better singing. Glad they didn't get stuck with thrash metal
every best performance in metallica's career came from between 1989-1992. by 93 hetfield's voice was gone and before 89 they had not completely realized their skill.
I disagree man, his voice was in very good shape in 89-92, but in 93 he just changed his style of singing from growling to classic rock singing...and he was damn great singer in lately 90s...but this is only my opinion...
@myspyz. 93' was pretty Epic. You had Them playing huge outdoor concerts in south America and Europe, and James was playing that double neck, 12-string explorer on fade.
@myspyz yeah towards the end of the South American leg of the tour his voice was tiring down a bit, then the Eurpean leg after that it was a little rough too, but not too bad.
I agree, Hetfield was an awesome metal singer around 89-92, but he really perfected his singing later on Load and Reload when he really sang instead of just growling or whatever. Sadly his voice isn't really fine anymore today, I don't think that they can play for much longer... maybe he should try a different approach to singing or something. Whatever the reason, he's still one of the great singers of all time in my opinion.
@Sharkis12 Actually James has even stated in an interview that he blew his voice out in 1993. All the intense touring and drinking they did on the road during the Justice and Black Album tours is what did it. They didn't know how to pace themselves back then.
@Sharkis12 Agreed. He's got a 89-92 amazing voice, and a 97sh-2000 amazing voice. Sort of like a Live Shit Binge and Purge, and S&M voice. S&M voice fits some songs better (such as here). Also check out Nothing Else Matters 2000 in Seattle. BEST performance.
best era's for james was 83-91 96 08 12
