@floridaman2000 - Regardless, the pedestrian has the right of way no matter what. It doesn't matter if they are wearing a badge, or a fireman's helmet, they are still a pedestrian. And you must yield to a pedestrian. Have you ever worked on an ambulance? There is equipment we need to get out of the exterior compartments on either side- some of them right against the lane. We don't have a lot of space to get off the road. There's backboards KEDS, and all sorts of stuff we need.
@rileyhmt never worked in any government job fire ambulance and police i call parts of government and no i have never worked for any part of the US government and yes in that video fourteen seconds in you see on the side there is MORE than enough room to get what you guys need so you are saying for the record that anyone has the right in an emergency to jump into on coming trafic and blame the car and or cars that hits anyone singular and or plural?
@floridaman2000 - Backboard is seven feet long, which often times needs to be swung out in the middle of traffic. Your standard roadway is eight feet wide. Now, that car will come through at 70-80 MPH, and strike that board usually with a persons hand in the rings, and it will take the person with it. Where the fuck is your compassion? And if you've never worked for any of these services, then where is your room to talk? I'll keep this is mind the next time you go off the road.

@floridaman2000 - Buddy, I'm not even paid to do this. I work for municipal government. I volunteer my time, and leave birthdays and holidays, so I can go save lives. And there is no way around swinging it into traffic. You don't know so you can't protest it. Are you even aware of what a backboard is?
As to your comment about the pedestrian- it doesn't matter if it's a bum wanting to use the freeway as a crosswalk, he still has the right of way. It doesn't matter, the pedestrian always has the right of way under any circumstances- emergency or not.

And it was actually made a law in Delaware, we had a firefighter/emt named Michelle Smith killed while assisting a downed motorcyclist on one of our state routes, she was 30 years old with a little girl at home. The guy who hit her was a PARAPALEGIC with no license using sticks to press the gas and brake with, he fled the scene in a friends car who had been following him. He actually hit the motorcyclist too who was already injured...
I believe it will be nationwide that's what my brother told me when they made it, he is in the video and I remember him saying that when we discussed it, but I can email it to whomever! =)
I work in the Roadside Assistance business in Atlanta area. This should be nation wide, not only Delaware. Almost got hit about a year ago by a semi doing around 75-85mph in the right lane. This law should be more enforced.
