Could you use a trigger to replace a transparent floor with a solid one (or vice-versa)? It might be a bit linear (configuring two-way switching would be impractical with multiple marines and paths) but I just wonder if it's possible..?

2 things, 1) You should make this a campaign where you have to take a parcel from a survivor in pallet to viridian (or however it goes) to be able to get to the next town (this takes two levels, then the third level is traveling to pewter to the pkmcenter and the last level is getting to the gym where the finale is. then you should have the pokemon league where it's 5 levels each with a finale.

2) how long did everything take you (l4d version), models etc. and was there any coding involved?

If you're still working on this, you can achieve a sort of fade effect using alpha field. Must be done on either func_brush or prop_dynamic, with rendermode set to alpha. Then you can use a trigger to change the alpha level to make them opaque, translucent or transparent depending on the number entered. The downsides though are that it switches instantaneously so there isn't a fade effect as such, and that it's a serverside command so if it happens for one player it happens for all.
