That phone haven't never cost 400 dollars.. it used to cost over 300 and now maybe over 100 if they even sell it anymore, but yeah the youtube app really sucks, desktop version doesn't even load videos anymore because flash is too old and mobile site is ok but you can't log in to your YouTube user in m.youtube.com. I blame YouTube from that. Btw YouTube used to work just fine with 5800 before google messed it up, google nerds don't just want people to watch YouTube with Symbian

Try reading those comments at those N8 videos, I kept laughing at those stupid Symbian/Nokia fanboys that kept saying about how symbian is better than android and iOS, and that the 600mhz processor is enough to power symbian bla bla bla. I just got an N97 mini as well the video quality is good but when it comes to youtube your right its terrible laggy and over 3G its just rediculous might as well download the video on your computer and put it on your phone to see the good quality.

I just saw this. I have used Skyfire for 2yrs and love it, BUT I got a model with removable memory that let's me store EVERYTHING off the hard RAM (apps too but it is TEXTS that I had to store off the phone memory!!) I know this is outdated, but at least the YT client version I have shows my subs--not all sadly but a weird combo of those I check the most and the recent adds--and searches great, and skyfire--unlike almost ALL others--lets things like the VEVO HD vids and annotations play.

it is not best compared to androif.androism is UGLY but functuonally,and developers prefer android, SYMBIAN IS SHIT because nokia is not useing better specs like 1,2 ghx processors or 512 ram. N8 need 512 ram and 1ghz processor ,BUT NO nokia puts 0.6ghz and 200mb ram!! that not enough.gotta go.

I don't think the problem is with the Symbian platform. Youtube works just fine on my E71x. Yes, search is a bit limited, but there are ways to work around that.

Maybe

- you got stuck with the wrong device. Never heard anything good about 5800XM

- you are in an area with crappy reception

- you are part of some anti-Nokia propaganda following antennagate

BTW:

- E71x costs $20 with AT&T (not $200 like iphones or androids)

- Tons of free apps because of the open / free Symbian platform

the youtube client is.... ok... what I really don't like is that in the case of let's say a music video, you can search anything, like for example I wanted to show some friends the video jizz in my pants. It didn't find the original, only a cover, a speed up version... anything else but the video I was looking for and I really don't understand why

This video's quite outdated. 5800, 5530 and 5230 with the latest firmware does desktop YouTube on the default browser quite splendidly. Still nowhere near as good as the N900, but it's enjoyable. There. I said it. Enjoyable. Given that is, your connection is GOOD. It's basically wifi or bust in my experience. Even 3.5G is a no-go. Connection drops/slows down too often.

Apps on the Symbian S60 5th is still garbage though. Total garbage. I got an iPod Touch anyway so I don't give a damn anymore.

True say. I just bought a Nokia 5800 from 3UK, 3 months ago, YouTube is lacking quality. When I use it through Real Player, The phone gets stuck and gotta remove the battery and put it back in. Nokia isn't improving at all.

I couldn't agree more with tehkseven...

However, with the latest V21, the Youtube experience on the N97's browser has been improved DRASTICALLY!

But I really miss the Mobitubia or The Core Player experience I got while using my old Nokia E71 S60V3.

But once I used my new Palm Pre GSM smartphone, I'm spoiled, Youtube does not compare with anything else I've seen and used. It even rivals the Desktop experience.

You should change the title to "Youtube Sucks on Nokia Symbian S60 5th Edition". My Samsung i8910 Omnia HD plays youtube videos perfectly with the browser,even the HD videos plays well with Skyfire. And yes,it runs S60 5th Edition

I just watched your video and tried to watch this exact video on my nokia 5530 xpress music with the pre instaled youtube application. On wifi: a perfect experience the video played smoothly and with no problems.

I actually watched your video on my 5800 using the normal browser. Why would you try viewing the desktop version on your phone? Youtube has a good mobile version of the site, which uses flash, complete with cuter (and smaller) versions of the standard YouTube player.

There is an optimisation wizard on the front page that helps YouTube generate the right encoding for your device.

Youtube mobile on the 5800 and N97 (newest 2.0 firmware) are still lacking, in my opinion of course.

The quality is quite poor and it is laggy most of the time.

Thanks for the tip on the optimization wizard. I'm sure I set it right, but I'll check again :)
