This scene was funny at first, but then after rewatching the episode as a whole, it sort of makes me feel a little sad. Sam at this point has no idea what he's in for when he gets to school. Still funny, but this episode always seemed a little more depressing than the others. But there was still humour in it! Like when Mr. Rosso takes Sam home and has that story about being called a hippie man.

I saw this episode with commentaries from judd apatow (I think) who said that it all happened to him when he was young, and when you hear him laughing about it, you don't get that depressed. Shit happens... right?
