:\ it's not bad but to be brutally honest, this song would be really good without the keyboards. I'm still planning to tattoo the crossbuster on me :D
Oh shit, this is fucking horrible. Say it's not real. Tell me I'm just having a really vivid, realistic nightmare. I'm starting to have second thoughts about my Bad Religion tattoo.
I have been following BR since day one and I have also been a punk drummer for more than 20 years and this is my favorite album by them thus far. I am totally bummed that I don't have a copy. I really hope that they re-release it. Ya its different for them but its still "dam good" muzik and its part of their history which they have no reason to deny, Its the SHIZ!!!
@Mrmuzaholic you may know this but I thought i'd let you know anyway, Bad Religion released a box set of all their records including a re-release of Into the Unknown, it is limited to 3000 copies, get it off the store on their main website
This is shocking. I suppose if I didn't know this was bad religion I would not be shocked, because this isn't really horrible, just so different. Sort of Ironic as to their "image" now (not that it matters much to me about their image. Just mentioned it to get my point across)
Really? I've read the comments on several of these and am surprised at the lack of people who think this is really bad, even for "progressive punk" or whatever you want to call it. Have any of you wondered why they went on with their career in a better direction? Because this shit is not good!
Their career??? Because they needed followers and for that they had play more traditional punkrock. I think that was the reason for continue with other style. This album and this style is for other public but i think that is incredibly interesting, original and good. This is the evidence that Bad Religion are genious (specially... Greg Graffin). And thank's for your commentary, because "Progressive punk" is the best name for this style, really resume it, maybe the single album in the world.
the best song from this strange album of bad religion. Im a fanatic of this band and this album is very very very strange and no punk but really i like it...
There is no reason why they shouldn't re-release this album. Back in the 80's I think people were too shocked to appreciate it, but now when they look back they see what a great album it is.
no, it just sounds like van halen in general, lol, it's definitely much different from most bad religion song, i love the keyboards, it's cool, i love it.
This album is really interesting. You can understand why the LA punk scene of the early 80's rejected it..but it actually stands up quite well musically. This isn't too bad at all
rush are so terrible that even the worst bad religion song could be the best rush song. i mean, anything that brett or graffin scrawl on a piece of paper while on the toilet will be better than rush.
You can't even compare the two. They're two completely different genres. I enjoy both, but musically speaking Rush is better than Bad Religion. I enjoy both the same, but I have to admit that Rush is better. BR has Rush beat when it comes to lyrics, but Rush's drummer and bassist could annihilate the drummers for BR. I wouldn't be surprised if they were influences to them honestly. And Geddy (frontman) often multitasks, playing the bass, synth, and singing. Sometimes all at once.
I have a hell of a lot more respect for Brooks Wackerman's drumming than Neil Peart. Seeing as Brooks is one of the best session drummers around and his drumming with BR is such perfect understatement, always fitting the song. And BR writes better songs.
this album blows my mind at how different it is from their previous output...it was a bold move, and they shouldn't be ashamed of it...it should be reissued, to at least trump the bootleggers out there making money off of it.
I think of this album as being a Greg Graffin solo project. Basically owing to him being the only real member to appear on it. Billy Gnosis is kind of cool.
Altough I have to admit I hate the old stuff, from the 80-85 compilation, which include 28 BR Songs, I probably like 5 or so (fuck armageddon...this is hell, along the way, yesterday) ...so maybe THATs the worst album, but well who gives a fuck ;)
Since Suffer ALL the Albums are great, some a little more, some a little less...stranger than fiction also isnt THAT great.
Against the grain is one crazy fucking badass PERFECT album :-)
I'd say that Stranger Than Fiction is the PERFECT BR album, much better than anything from the ATG/No Control/Suffer trilogy.
Greg has never sounded better than he did in New America though. Lyrics may not have been up to par, but were still more thought provoking than any other non-BR lyrics I hear.
Television..the handshake..incomplete...tiny voices..hooray for me...individual...these songs arent bad but just pretty pretty boring and nothing special at all!
Of course Better off Dead, Infected, slumber, inner logic, what it is and news from the front are quiet cool, but ATG DEFINITLY is better, because it doesnt have ONE SINGLE boring song, they all rock!
Still STF is a good, solid album..but DEFINITLY not the best
This, Chasing the Wild Goose, You Give Up and especially It's Only Over When... are the songs that alone make this album better than NMoH.
New America was a great album, it's only poppy for BR standards, which is still a far cry from the contemporary pop-punk craze. Doesn't bother me one bit, and it should't bother you either, punk.
I agree. Really, this is much of what you'd expect of 80's hard rock, just more serious and with a keyboard...And sure, there was the Time & Disregard epic, which is as progressive as this album (or Bad Religion, for that matter) gets. Everything else is really radio-friendly, when you think about it.
Also, Davy Goldman (who has only played drums on this album) is one of my favorite drummers. Very basic, but still very powerful and very compatible. If I were to hire a session drummer, Davy Goldman would probably be my first pick.
Hey, this isn't as bad as i thought it would be. It might not be punk-ish, but it's a nice album! Why the **** won't they reprint it? It's not nearly as gay as New America. could you please upload some more songs from this album?
There's actually some CD bootlegs of this album. I saw one floating around on eBay for a pretty good price (considering how rare and expensive it is nowadays) not too long ago. You should get it.
This album is'nt their usual style and it is'nt really what's defined as punk (btw, I think punk died when there were rules that seem to be chisled in stone, that "define" what punk is)
Oh and New America was'nt their best album but what's so bad about it? Just because it got some slow "ballads"?
I don't get why they're so ashamed of this album. I mean I guess punk cred may have been more important back then, but this is a far cry from the disaster I imagined it would be.
Nice, I'm not really into progressive rock, but as you know this is Bad Religion's worst album to date, as it delved straight into progressive rock and abandoned their earlier punk sound. Still pretty good though.
:\ it's not bad but to be brutally honest, this song would be really good without the keyboards. I'm still planning to tattoo the crossbuster on me :D

I don't think any other band has changed their sound as much as Bad Religion did from the album 'How Could Hell Be Any Worse?' to 'Into The Unknown'.
