  • I agree with the other voices of reason on this post. This is a good way to sink your boat or get a line tangled in the prop. If they had at least said to make sure the anchor is not stuck first I could go with it. VERY DANGEROUS IF THE ANCHOR IS STUCK.

  • safe to use with a danforth?

  • Wow, I can't believe the people talking crap about this method.. ALL of us commercial guys in NC have been doing this for YEARS. I bet they're also the ones who pull up their anchor every time they move to new spot... haha! This guy knows what he's doing, and since there is an elec-tra-mate in the rod holder, ths is how he makes his money.

  • whats the name of that stainless ring and clip? Would like to order one into Australia... Cheers - this was the vid I have been looking for! Have heard about this anchoring system but wasnt sure how it works.. essentially the water drag pulls the buoy down the length of the rope and catches on the chain?

  • @BuoyzToyz in the uk it's known as an alderney ring but AU and US may well call it something else.

  • My option is cut the rope and buy a new one. Way 2 dangerous.

  • Interesting way of retrieving the anchor. As an inland sailor and boater I just pull it in, but then water depth rarely exceeds 20m. I think I'll try that out next time I'm on a motor boat, just for fun...

  • If you note this genteman's sig, he SELLS FISH and has been doing this for decades. He probably knows more about practicle boat handling than 99.99% of the people who will view this video.

So enjoy the video and learn.

  • @stopt1me

I have been running commercial boats since the late 80's. I refuse to go on the hull truth and argue with a bunch of weekend warriors, and people that take their boats out once or twice a month. Have hundreds and hundreds of bottom fishing / anchoring trips under my belt with no accidents. Thanks for the compliments!

  • I learned a lot,but i have a pulpid with a windless i like to know if i do the same thing as the video do i tie the rode to a cleat or does i am a litter confused how to handle wiyh a windless please help.

    John

  • Thanks. I fish off my 22' boat in inland waters where the tidal current can reach 5 knots and strong wind is common. This is absolutely going to work for me.

    Thanks again.

  • This is the craziest, most hair-brained scheme I've seen to retrieve an anchor. The next time I see someone trying to use their anchor like a kite, I'll know why.....

  • @Theriomalstrom

You are clueless......I see you are a blowboater (that explains it) We have been using this method along the south east coast for 20 years. Not everyone has a windlass on a 24' boat

  • @sellsfish I own 2 power boats -- neither one has a windlass....

  • @Theriomalstrom , seeing as you have all the answers, tell us how you pull 15' of chain and a 16 lb anchor and 300' of scope to the top effortlessly? I did notice that EVERYONE of your replies to other videos is a sarcastic rant. But thanks for stopping by, you have provided a bunch of us on facebook and our local fishing board a few good laughs!

  • Great video ..thanks for sharing this will save my back ..

  • I use the same ball. How far out were you? You have one screw. I do too. I'm off Clearwater Beach, into the Gulf. Where are you at?

  • Great Video. We first saw this method offshore Belize in 900 feet of water. Worked great with a small engine block for an anchor!

  • Yeap .. well done. Best thing for bottom fishing ... I sometimes drive closer to the anchor ball so as to only pull line.

  • Oh man thanks!! We've lost so many anchors. It gets expensive! lol
