altar of plagues, folks. as one may pair a fine wine with a fine meal, one must always pair good BM with altar of plagues. Cork, Ireland has created a fine vintage of awesome metal with drive and conviction. and cool album covers too!
Sorry guys, not trying to instigate a genre argument or anything, I'm just curious... what makes this black metal? I'm no BM expert, but this sounds a lot more like old In Flames than, say, Burzum to me? Is it just the vocals and lack of 'leads'?
@DjentMeister It's the production quality, it's the lengthy tracks, it's the constant tremolo picking, it's the song structuring, and it's not mainstream.
@DjentMeister Burzum is not all thier is to BM. Check out Emperor's later work, Abigor, Deathspell Omega, and Ihsahn for a spread of different tech BM.
I don't care if the guys in USBM bands wear skinny jeans, ride fixed gears and make delicious soy lattes... as long as they crank out music like this.
Weakling, Velvet Cacoon, Clair Cassis, Xasthur, Deafheaven, Addaura, Agalloch... All American... All suitably fucking immense (if you're not a closed minded Keyboard warrior and you just like good music).
Oh damn, gonna grab this disc asap! They are an ever evolving tour de force, bulldozing there way through, motherfucker of a band. It must feel so good to be in this band and be able to play this material, what powerful fucking music! excuse my french but the fuck word is used here strictly for enthusiastic means and not lack of a better word usage. Holy shit!
This already sounds like a pretty substantial improvement over the past two releases, there's a lot more variation going on here than usual, the vox are soo much better ... Can't wait for the rest of the album. Good upload.
