Think of it as though Trunks and Goku were about equal in strength, Trunks caught Frieza's deathball with ease and Goku had to deflect Cooler's with a kamehameha, maybe if Cooler had simply avoided the attack then the fight could have lasted longer. Also, Cooler was killed by the sun, not by Goku's attack.

@mackattack7309 Scratch that he is much stronger than frieza.Frieza's final form 100% max power was at 120,000,000 while on namek and ssj goku's power level was at a 150,000,000.V-jump has stated Coolers max power level when he came to earth was 470,000,000.Goku getting a zenkai after his fight with frieza was the only way he could of beat cooler.Cooler right now could crush both ssj goku and 100% max power final form frieza during namek saga.So yeah Coolers pretty strong.

This movie takes place after the fight with Frieza but before Goku knew about the androids, because clearly Goku can't control his SSJ form yet in this movie. When Goku first heard about the androids, he was easily able to go SSJ in front of Trunks. So Goku wasn't preparing for the androids and he didn't get any zenkai. 100% bulky Frieza is actually pretty close to the power of 5th form Cooler.

This could be while training for the androids because its stated in the daizenshu 7. So typically they just started training for the andriods. Cooler appeared between 764 and 767. 100% bulk frieza is weak in comparison to cooler. Cooler is 470,000,000, while frieza is 150,000,000
